Q3- What have you
learnt from audience
feedback?
Our Target Audience
 When we decided on a genre of music and style we decided that upon
doing research to make our target audience aimed at the higher class of
men and women age ranging from 25-40. During the process of making
the music video we have stayed in close contact with our specific focus
group throughout in order to meet the target audiences needs and gain
the preferred reading of the audience. In order to be in contact with our
focus group our main source was using social media and using Facebook
messenger and making a group chat with our focus group and putting our
ideas inrto that specific group chat. This simple process has been effective
in collecting data from our focus groups.
Preferred Reading
As a group we decided that the preferred reading of
our music video would to feel sympathetic towards
the protagonist in our music video, in our case Joe. In
order to create sympathy for our protagonist we
decided to film Joe being alone at a bar, waking up
alone and also walking a gloomy beach on his own in
order to gain sympathy.
Negotiated Reading
By the time we reached the final stages of our production, we were sure that we were able to
achieve our preferred reading, despite throughout the process of making our final media
production this not always being the case and not always being as simple, upon showing
teachers and members of the focus group our first cut of our music video, it was clear that
perhaps the preferred reading of the music video was not always being presented in a clear
way and we would have to listen to feedback in order for our target audience to be able to
get the preferred reading.
3A) What have you
learnt from audience
feedback regarding
your ancillary tasks?
 We showed our focus group various different photos of the band that we
were considering using in our ancillary tasks and were able to gain an idea
of what they felt would work in terms of making and designing our
ancillary tasks. We showed a variety of photos in order to get an idea of
what the focus group felt would be most fitting with our ancillary tasks.
FOCUS GROUP
RESPONSES TO
ANCILLARY TASK
In terms of the front cover, the focus group felt that the use
and theme of nature and the shot of the sea was fitting with
the band, this was a positive as we were already conforming
to codes and conventions. They felt displaying the CD was
effective and good as this was not a common theme with
other digipaks they have seen. They felt that the use of
smaller letter and different colour fonts was effective as they
were used minimally.
When looking at the back cover they felt the miraging photo was
effective and something that is not normally seen on digipaks, this
was a positive response. The focus group also liked the different
colours being used and felt it fitted in with the theme of nature. The
focus group also felt that the way the text was displayed showing the
songs was fitting in with the theme of nature. Despite all these
positives, the focus group felt that the digipak needed a barcode and
a record label in order to make the ancillary tsk appear more realistic.
