3. My masthead challenges normal
convention of real Hip Hop magazines.
This is because normally the masthead
would not appear on one side on a Hip
Hop magazine. It would be right in the
middle with the artist /s at the front. I
put mine to one side and in front as it
allows my audience to see it better.
The main image develops convention
of real Hip Hop magazines. Most
Images on Hip Hop magazines front
covers like to portray
attitude, especially when the artist /s
are male but they would not cover their
face with a hoodie. I decided to do the
opposite of this to emphasise the
attitude stereotypically associated with
Hip Hop, but also to reflect my
audience. As I will later mention in
question 2 of the evaluation, they are
stereotypically chavs, who wear
hoodies to show they have a bad
attitude.

5. In terms of imagery I would I say I developed
conventions of real Hip Hop magazines as
normally they tend to have just one main
image of their cover artist/s on the contents
page. I put more than one image on my
contents page so as to cater for my target
audience’s wants, as it was made clear to me
in my questionnaire that the majority
wanted more than one image.
In terms of text I would say I challenged
convention. This is because in real
magazines the features do not take up a
whole column . I gave the features a
whole column to draw the reader’s
attention more towards it, to show I have
listened to there wants and included artist
they said they would like to see in my
questionnaire. The inclusion of an editor’s
note is a challenge to convention as no
real magazines have them. I put one in to
make the reader feel the contents page
addressed them more directly. I achieved
this as in my second questionnaire all
respondents said the editor’s note made
the contents page more personal.

7. The placing of a barcode on the double
page spread could be said to challenge
convention as it is not normal.
However, it is not really my own original
change to convention as vibe, a real
magazine, do this to highlight their
website , which is what I have done.
I would say my headline ‘ NXT’
develops convention of real
magazines. As normally all the letters
would be the same size. I have made
my letters progressively bigger to
reflect the idea that in 2012 my artist
got bigger and bigger until they
reached mainstream stardom.
Demonstrated by the final letter(’T’)
being the biggest letter.
