1. Have I used, developed or challenged any
forms and conventions?
2. A general convention of music
magazines is to have large, bold Another convention of
titles. I have used this on my front music magazines that I
cover a the masthead is quite large have implemented
and thick so that is stands out. would be the use of a
mid shot on the
featured artist. This is
generally always the
type of shot used on
My magazine front cover however, front cover of music
challenges some conventions such as magazines like Clash
the use of fonts. My cover utilises
multiple fonts to make each cover line
stand out whereas most magazines
like NME stick to one font and use
different colours to create contrast.
3. My contents page also has
the bulk of text on the left
and only images on the
left. This is a common
convention of music
magazines that I noticed Like Clash and many
and so I decided to other music magazine,
emulate this in my my contents page uses
contents page. number on the corners
of images to indicate
which page there
relevant article is on so
that they can quickly
look at an image to see
if there interested in it
and then read about it,
instead of having to read
about it first. This is
instantly more appealing
and gratifying.
4. A common convention on magazine double
page spreads is the use of pull quotes to draw
the reader into what the article is about I have also used the conventions of
without having to read to much. I have used page numbers and a website for
this convention for this purpose and to make the magazine which is a standard
it seem like more of an authentic magazine. of most magazines in general , so it
was key to use this convention of
music magazines.
A convention of articles in music magazines is to uses language that is only
used or is relevant to the social group/demographic or genre of music
which the magazine is based around. For example my magazines uses
phrases like “ Crunchy guitar riffs” this would only be really used in Indie
music magazines and possibly similar genres. This is often implemented in
music magazines to give the readers a sense of belonging as they know
something that others do not and it makes them feel more special.
5. To conclude my magazine overall has a similar
style to Clash as I went for a slick, modern,
edgy magazine. My magazine also shares the
same genre and has a very similar selection of
music. My magazine also has influences of
NME as it shares a similar colour scheme.
