Senecio flaccidus var. douglasii, commonly known as Shrubby Butterweed, is a woody subshrub native to much of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It grows 1-3 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, with fine-textured blue-green foliage and yellow daisy flowers that bloom from July to November. Shrubby Butterweed is useful in dry native gardens, for slope stabilization, and would do well in large planters. It provides habitat for insects and birds while requiring full sun, any well-draining soil, and little water once established.
