• AC Supply received through High-Tension lines at PWD campus is supplied to the Meter box installed by the
DISCOM (JVVNL) (whose panel is locked/sealed by the JVVNL & can be opened by them only)

• RMU UNIT
• A ring main unit (RMU) is a factory assembled, metal enclosed set of switchgear used at
the load connection points of a ring-type distribution network.
• RMU cabinets are small in size, highly reliable, safe, easy to maintain, easy to replace,
and expand.
• Depending on requirements, the RMU is available in different voltages suitable for both
indoor and outdoor installations.

• After the transformer, LT main panel is connected which controls the
supply to various Distribution panels. As PWD office has various blocks
so each block has its own distribution panel.
• in each block various sub distribution boxes are installed which
controlled supply to specific area/room/floor.
Fire Safety System
• Fire Detection System : It consists of components for automatically detecting a fire, initiating an alarm of fire
and initiating other actions as possible.
• various types of detectors:
• Smoke Detectors : device that senses smoke, typically as an indicator of fire.
• Photoelectric : Smoke can be detected optically
• Ionization Smoke detector : Smoke can be detected by physical process

• HEAT DETECTORS
• Heat detector can work on fixed temperature basis.
• Temperature approx. 60 deg. Celcius the glass at the tip of the fire melts and the water starts flowing.

activates the alarm and also engages pumps to sprinkle
water.

• Underground Tank with Draw off
• usually used for large water tank storage and can be built
cheaply using cement-like materials.
• These tanks are directly connected to the Fire Fighting
System. Used to store water for Fire fighting System

• 3 types of pumps in fire fighting system –
• Jockey pump
• High pressure electric pump
• Diesel Pump

 Jockey Pump is always active and maintains a pressure of 6-7 kg/ms2 in the pipes connected to the sprinklers.
 In case a sprinkler starts due to fire the water pressure starts dropping which triggers the electric pump and it starts. It is
the main pump and is of capacity almost 3times jockey Pump.
 But if electric connection is cut off due to fire, then diesel pump starts automatically which is of same capacity of electric
pump.

• FIRE PIPES
• Fire fighting pipe is a type of normal carbon steel pipe used to convey fire suppression agent such as water or gas.
• Usually it is red in color. But light-wall pipes have a galvanized exterior of a silvery appearance.
• Installation of red steel pipe is limited to wet pipe sprinkler systems only.
• Generally, GI C-Class pipes are used in fire fighting system. Each pipe is of 20 ft long.
• Cast Iron (CI) Pipes are also used but only in areas where there is continuous rainfall or humid weather like hilly
areas.

• HOSE REEL
• A fire hose reel is a first attack piece of fire-fighting equipment. It
is designed to be used as a quick-response method by any
member of the general public for fighting fires in their early
stages. Hose Reels are suitable for Class A fires: Paper, Textiles,
Wood, Most Plastics and Rubber.
• FIRE HYDRANTS
• Hydrants are devices for extracting water from pipelines and
water distribution systems. In the event of a fire outbreak, a fire
hydrant can assure fast water supply.
• The connections to the pipes are tapped with so-called hydrant
wrenches and hydrant standpipes and are further connected to
the fire trucks.

AIR COOLING PLANT
• A cooling plant belongs to the main units of an air conditioning system. Without a cooling plant it will be impossible to
meet a comfort inside when cooling is needed.
• Air cooler offers better quality of air for your room. So much so, that the air circulated from an air cooler is preferable for
people with asthma or dust allergy.

• Air-Cooling Pad
• The cooling pads are made from a specially formulated cellulose paper
impregnated with insoluble anti-rot salts. It is designed with an exclusive
cross-fluted configuration which induces highly turbulent mixing inside the
pad between the water and the air, and contributes to the evaporative
efficiency.
• The cooling pad material play significant role in the cooling. The hot air is
first passed through the cooling pads. The cooling pads which already
absorbed the cool water are ready to transfer the cooling to the air.

• Duct
• A ducted air conditioner is one that is capable of cooling your entire
home. It works by having a central unit that cools the air and then
distributes the cooled air via a series of ducts into the office
• Ducts are conduits or passages used in heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (HVAC) to deliver and remove air. The needed airflows
include, for example, supply air, return air, and exhaust air. Ducts
commonly also deliver ventilation air as part of the supply air.
• The main supply duct, known as the trunk, carries a high volume of air
and is usually comprised of rectangular-shaped sheet metal ducts.
Similarly, the return ducts that convey an equal volume of air back to the
central unit are also usually rectangular sheet metal
