PRESENTS
Introduction :
One billion people do not have access to clean drinking
water.
95% of water-related deaths occur in the developing world.
A person can only live for a few days without water.
Our Project is designed to provide clean drinking water in
remote regions and emergency conditions like flood, famine,
earthquakes, and tsunami.
It is based on the concept of reverse osmosis.
Reverse osmosis is carried out manually by using ‘Pedal
Power’.
Reverse Osmosis
Two liquids of different concentrations separated by semi-permeable membrane.
Less saturated solvent naturally flows into more saturated region.
Pressure is applied to reverse this
process and is known as reverse
osmosis or RO.
 Dirty water flows through
membrane thereby filtering it.

Objective:
Pedal powered water purification by RO method meets the needs of people
without requiring any electrical energy.
This filtration system could be brought into remote areas and emergency
conditions like flood, famine earthquakes etc
The purpose of this project is to design and fabricate a small scale water
purification kit which requires minimal maintenance and which is cost
efficient.

METHODOLOGY
In operation by pedalling the cycle man power is converted into
mechanical energy which is further converted into hydraulic energy
in pump.
Rotor of the pump is attached to rear wheel of bicycle which runs
due to friction.
Pump pumps the water to sediment filter with pressure where
dissolved inorganic solids (such as salts) are removed from water.

METHODOLOGY
Then water is pumped to carbon filter which removes organic matters,
chemicals, contaminants and chlorides using chemical absorption.
After carbon filter water is passes through the RO Membrane
Here water is converted into pure water by reverse osmosis process, where
impure water is separated and pure water is collected in container.

FUTURE SCOPE
• In disaster prone areas of flood, famine, earthquakes etc.
• In villages where there are no pure water and electric facilities.
• It can also be used for house hold applications.
• Filtering local sources of water would eliminate the need to import large
quantities from elsewhere, saving relief funds for alternate uses.

Conclusion:
Simple in design and portable.
Economical and less maintenance.
Effective means for providing potable
water.
It is viable.
 Bicycle also acts as an easy way to
transport water over far distances.

Objective: Pedal powered water purification by RO method meets the needs of people without requiring any electrical energy. This filtration system could be brought into remote areas and emergency conditions like flood, famine earthquakes etc The purpose of this project is to design and fabricate a small scale water purification kit which requires minimal maintenance and which is cost efficient. 4

METHODOLOGY In operation by pedalling the cycle man power is converted into mechanical energy which is further converted into hydraulic energy in pump. Rotor of the pump is attached to rear wheel of bicycle which runs due to friction. Pump pumps the water to sediment filter with pressure where dissolved inorganic solids (such as salts) are removed from water. 6

METHODOLOGY Then water is pumped to carbon filter which removes organic matters, chemicals, contaminants and chlorides using chemical absorption. After carbon filter water is passes through the RO Membrane Here water is converted into pure water by reverse osmosis process, where impure water is separated and pure water is collected in container. 7

FUTURE SCOPE • In disaster prone areas of flood, famine, earthquakes etc. • In villages where there are no pure water and electric facilities. • It can also be used for house hold applications. • Filtering local sources of water would eliminate the need to import large quantities from elsewhere, saving relief funds for alternate uses. 8
  • 9. Conclusion: Simple in design and portable. Economical and less maintenance. Effective means for providing potable water. It is viable.  Bicycle also acts as an easy way to transport water over far distances. 9
