DESIGN THINKING ACTION LAB, STANFORD UNIVERSITY
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Maria, an 18 year old motivated, social, English-speaking girl from a developing country needs a
better and faster way to acquire knowledge and at the same time start working in order not to
waste time because the local education system is outdated, inflexible, slow, unrecognized by
employers and uncompetitive in today’s job environment.

1. Favourite: Build a website (online university) which offers all online courses available
globally for free; outlines a curriculum for Maria based on her strengths and adjusts it
based on dynamic employment needs. Offer transformed course material, structured in
elements, concepts and examples and adaptive to learn.
2. Disruptive: Upload any learning materials and knowledge into her head as in the Matrix: as
the brain structure and functions get better understood, it should be possible to have a
machine connected to the brain and uploading the sensual and logical information needed
for learning and strengthen the synapses to form different associations
3. Practical: Take online classes from different top universities for free: form her own
curriculum and hope that by the time she graduates it can be accredited as a whole

PROBLEM STATEMENT Maria, an 18 year old motivated, social, English-speaking girl from a developing country needs a better and faster way to acquire knowledge and at the same time start working in order not to waste time because the local education system is outdated, inflexible, slow, unrecognized by employers and uncompetitive in today’s job environment.
  • 3. Top selected 1. Favourite: Build a website (online university) which offers all online courses available globally for free; outlines a curriculum for Maria based on her strengths and adjusts it based on dynamic employment needs. Offer transformed course material, structured in elements, concepts and examples and adaptive to learn. 2. Disruptive: Upload any learning materials and knowledge into her head as in the Matrix: as the brain structure and functions get better understood, it should be possible to have a machine connected to the brain and uploading the sensual and logical information needed for learning and strengthen the synapses to form different associations 3. Practical: Take online classes from different top universities for free: form her own curriculum and hope that by the time she graduates it can be accredited as a whole
  • 4. Prototype of the favourite idea There are three initial steps for the stakeholder to experience the platform: 1 Register and self- assess 2 Build your own curriculum or choose a pre- selected one 3 Go to class

This process needs to verify the identity of the student/person) Photo START Self assessment test to produce a profile of the strengths, weaknesses and skills of the person SKIP If skipped, it leads directly to the courses Go to the test

Self assessment Results from the test in the form of a matrix and recommendations: + Strengths [what the person does best] Example: Numbers, calculations, design etc. - Weaknesses [what needs improvement] Example: Languages, writing, speaking SUGGESTIONS You are more suitable for science and technology heavy classes BUILD YOUR OWN Next step: study program SELECT FROM PRE-DEFINED

ENROLL RESERVE Every category contains all courses related to the respective group. The user is able to choose between more than one AI course for example by a different provider. Some courses will require the student to complete another course before they can be enrolled.

The programs will be developed internally based on user data on costs, time zones, course availability, user ratings, user groupings, relevance for the job market etc. New programs can be added constantly and existing ones will be modified. They will be able to drive course provider selection, workloads etc. They can have first call on potential job/intern candidates. The will be able to offer own niche courses within the curriculum. They will be able to adjust the study program during the studies (for example what the curriculum contains next year) based on the changing needs of the companies.
