Requiring only half the bitrate of its predecessor, the new standard – HEVC or H.265 – will significantly reduce the need for bandwidth and expensive, limited spectrum. HEVC (H.265) will enable the launch of new video services and in particular ultra HD television (UHDTV).
State-of-the-art video compression techniques – HEVC/H.265 – can reduce the size of raw video by a factor of about 100 without any noticeable reduction in visual quality. With estimates indicating that compressed real-time video accounts for more than 50 percent of current network traffic, and this figure is set to rise to 90 percent within a few years, HEVC/H.265 will be a welcome relief for network operators.
New services, devices and changing viewing patterns are among the factors contributing to the growth in video traffic as people watch more and more traditional TV and video-streaming services on their mobile devices.
Ericsson has been heavily involved in the standardization of HEVC since it began in 2010, and this Ericsson Review article highlights some of the contributions that have led to the compression efficiency offered by HEVC.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

All of these options can be deployed in a highly scalable fashion, with
units ranging in size from a single card for street cabinets or customer
premises, to larger modules for local or central office installation
- Generic Cabling
o Campus cabling
In a campus environment, whether university, industrial park or
military base, optical fiber is used extensively and sometimes
exclusively in the campus backbone. The benefits of optical fiber are
ideal for this environment. Fiber can support a range of data rates
from very low speed to very high speed over long distances. The
cables are small and lightweight and immune to lightning and
ground loop effects. A well-planned campus backbone can provide
the versatility to carry a complete spectrum of services such as
data, voice, video, building management systems, security
monitoring, and more
o Building backbone
The building backbone connects the main cross-connect with each
telecommunications closet in the building. The cable runs may be
vertical through a riser space in the case of a multi-story building
and/or horizontal in the case of a large single story building such as
a manufacturing facility. Optical fiber has become the medium of
choice for these applications because of its ability to support
multiple high speed networks in a very small cable without cross
talk concerns. In some cases, fiber is being used to support voice
applications by placing small, remote PBX shelves at the
telecommunications closet, eliminating the need for copper
altogether
o Horizontal cabling
Fiber in the horizontal is a reality because of recent advances in the
technology easing installation, reducing the overall system cost,
and offering a system that is reliable, flexible, certifiable and future-
proofed for the information era. Fiber optic cabling can be
implemented for today's network requirements, such as Ethernet
and Token Ring, and will easily accommodate growth to higher
speed networks such as Fast or Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, Fibre
Channel and ATM
Our company will be glad to support you with information and in analyzing your
particular threat scenarios and in drawing up individual solution proposals.

Communication solution for Przedsiębiorstwo
Eksploatacji Rurociągów Naftowych (PERN) Przyjaźń in
Płock (Naphta Pipe line)
Communication network for computers
and telecommunications of PERN
Przyjaźń in Płock
The transmission network, designed and
implemented by ProTel, based on PDH
equipment by Siemens, fulfills all PERN’s
current needs as far as computer and
telecommunications networks are
concerned.
Transmission equipment has been located in three node facilities and two terminal
facilities, from which connection with the public TP S.A. network is provided. At the nodes
PDH equipment from OLTS family by Siemens was installed which works with DSMX
digital multiplexers. In that way the 34 Mbit/s transmission channel has been divided into
channels with lower flow rates, i.e. 8 Mbit/s and 2 Mbit/s, which then were used with
telephone exchanges and WAN network equipment.
WAN (wide-area) network operates over leased digital channels required for network
connection. The main advantages of this network is a possibility of a wide expansion and
connection with other WANs with LAN/WAN interfaces such as V.24, V.35, X.21, E1, E2,
ISDN and ATM.
The whole transmission system is managed by a remote monitoring and management
software EMOS QD2, which provides: remote equipment configuration, signalization and
visualization of alarms and their monitoring with alarm logs, remote alarm configuration,
establishing testing loops, remote measurement of transmission quality and its
monitoring in special logs.
Optical transmission system for telephony, telemechanics and supervision of fuel pipes
Płock – Koluszki – Boronów and Płock – Mościska – Emilianów
Construction of the OTK line along pipelines was to provide reliable transmission medium
for full management of the pipeline and its equipment for dispatching, telemechanics and
remote supervision.
The running length of the designed fiber optic lines is equal 410 km and includes many
crossings with major land obstacles and with technical infrastructure. ProTel uses here
FOX 20 transmission system made by ABB. Two main lines with five base stations were
designed and thirty maintenance-free transit stations.
Ball valve stations have been equipped with uninterruptible power systems (UPS) with
batteries for 48-hour power supply and with break-in and fire signalization.
The system provides complete control over the pipeline which facilitates management of
fuel distribution and environmental protection (immediate interruption of fuel pumping in
case of fault or breach into the system).

Construction of a communication network for Zakłady
Energetyczne Warszawa – Teren (Power Plant)
Zakłady Energetyczne Warszawa–Teren
decided to create from start a new
communication network. Implementation of a
completely new system, based on the latest
technology by Siemens, was undertaken by
ProTel.
The network implemented in Zakłady
Energetyczne Warszawa – Teren, has lowered
costs of connections between remote
departments. Besides it provided quick access
to information contained in distant locations.
The data transfer network has been fully integrated and the uniform system for transfer
equipment was created.
The solution uses modern FMX2/CMX multiplexers by Siemens. In access networks FMX2
multiplexer provides wide range of services with various flow rates over analog and
digital networks. Various interfaces are multiplexed to 2 Mbit/s stream, which is the basic
transmission signal. Moreover FMX2/CMX facilitates introduction and distribution of
channels (drop/insert) and cross connecting, as well as line equipment for optic fiber and
for copper lines. Besides FMX2/CMX provides all functions necessary for transmission
networks with flow rates up to 2 Mbit/s.
All elements are managed by centralized network management system named
Accessintegrator. The management system allows for quick detection of faults in the
networks and provides security functions.

FutureWay structural cabling allows
transmission of digital and analog signals
of frequencies up to 100 MHz, telephony
support, as well as transmission of data, video and control signals. The network, with
100 logical points, has star topology, with the central distribution node. To this node 8
more intermediate nodes are connected, managing selected areas on different floors.
The star topology allows for changes in the cabling structure and easy location and
clearing of faults. If any line is damaged only the workstation connected through this line
no longer operates.
Digital wireless phone system, Hicom Cordless by Siemens, working in the DECT
standard, is integrated with the Hicom 300E system. Different base stations are
connected directly to the system by ISDN contact UP0/E, which provides to wireless
subscribers all system functions available to the exchange customers. The system uses
digital equipment, Gigaset 3000C. System subscribers may use interactive menu. The
range for base stations is 300 m in an open area and 50 m in closed quarters.
Schrack Seconet fire warning system used over 1200 elements (optic smoke detectors,

HiPath testing platform in the POL 34/155 network
The solution „HiPath testing platform in the POL
34/155 network” is a joint project of Krajowa
Szerokopasmowa Sieć Naukowa POL 34/155
(National Broadband Scientific Network),
Siemens and ProTel.
It fulfills requirements of the Scientific Research
Committee for communication applications
described in the document „Program for
development of computer infrastructure of the
Polish scientific and academic circles for 2001-
2005 PIONIER: Polish Optical Internet for
Information Society.”
The PIONIER program among many strategic
goals covers also creation of team work system
supported by a scientific communication
system.
It is the first, test installation of Voice over IP telephony system in Poland based on
HiPath solution by Siemens. The network connects 8 scientific centers located in Poznań,
Gdańsk, Warszawa, Łódź, Kraków, Gliwice, Opole and Wrocław.
The tests include 50 licenses for HiPath system. That is the number of hardware and
software IP telephones located at various centers.
The central element of the solution is the HiPath 5500 server (working under Windows NT
4.0 or 2000) – an application supporting functions of a typical PBX. The server allows for
management of 500 subscribers, providing not only telephony services but also voice
mail with messages recorded and sent by email as WAV attachments.
HiPath communication server is located at ProTel, where it is connected, through HiPath
RG 2000 gateway, to the local telephony exchange connected to PSTN network.
Communication between the HiPath server and the final users in the scientific centers
utilizes the POL-34/155 network.
Due to the capacity of the network, equal 34 or 155 Mb/s, the transferred sound is not
compressed. Therefore each telephone conversation uses a 64 Kb/s band, but in case of
worsening of transmission conditions the compression may be applied dynamically.
During tests of the HiPath solution in the POL-34/155 network a scattered call center with
IP technology is planned. This is one of the functions of the HiPath 5500 server, which is
equipped by standard with IVR system which allows for creation of voice menus operated
by tone dial.
Also access portal is planned which would allow to initiate telephone connections directly
through connections from an address book located at a WWW page.

Network of Hicom 300E communication servers in the
ATM network, at the computer centers POZMAN and
LODMAN
SuperComputer Network Center (which operates the POZMAN
network) and Computer Center of the Łódź Technical University
(which operates the LODMAN network) were the first to connect
their PABX exchanges over the ATM network. This option is also
used for Hicom 300E installed at ProTel in Poznań.
This advanced solution has two functions:
- Comprises communication system connecting two
scientific centers
- Works as a research platform for engineers employed in
those centers
Unlike the currently produced systems, the Hicom 300E
communication server with the family of Hicom Xpress products
allows for interoperation with ATM and IP protocol. Open
interfaces and standard protocols comprise a platform for
integration of telecommunications and computers and therefore facilitate multimedia
communication in general.
Hicom 300E, through the STMA module, allows for multimedia data and voice
transmission over the ATM network. It is possible to construct homogenous corporate
networks equipped with Hicom 300E communication servers with ATM connections both
SVC and PVC. STMA software provides support for all server functions of Hicom 300E in
the ATM environment.

Integrated communication system for PGK Centrum in
Poznań
Furnishing the facility with modern integrated
systems that assist people who use them is the
essential requirement of the popular concept of
„intelligent building”.
PGK Centrum in Poznań is an office building which
is truly intelligent.
Among many systems that operate there the most
important one is the integrated communication
system designed and implemented by ProTel.
The system has been implemented basing on digital
telephone exchange Hicom 300E by Siemens, which
works as a communications server and with
FutureWay structural cabling by Siemens.
The system capacity at the first stage of the
investment is 500 subscribers. After the
development of the building the system capacity
will be 1500 subscribers. The system has been
connected with two ISDN connections to the public
network managed by TP S.A. The target solution
provides 6 ISDN connections.
The system provides for simultaneous transmission of voice, data, image and text.
Unlike the traditional voice telephony Hicom 300 E communication server was designed
to integrate end-to-end solutions – voice, data and fax – and allows to send them over
ATM and IP networks.
Hicom 300 E hardware allows for scalability with full flexibility concerning expansion
according to current needs of the user.
It is very practical, as in case of greater demand all that is needed is expansion of the
existing system. It was taken into consideration with this investment, as PGK Centrum is
to be expanded to a twin building.

The integrated communication system for the
International Fairs Center Poznań
The specification of the International Fairs Center area, requires modern communication
solution that can perform without any damage, and enables IFC to offer to its customer a
wide range of communication services. During designing process those two elements
were the most important to the client. The concept of building DECT (wireless system)
required a high cooperation with the IFC. The exact evaluation of quantity of the base
stations was done, in order to build a right system without any extra expenditure.
The core element of the system is Simens Hicom 300E with
1280 clients in DECT standard and 816 stationary. The
system enables an easy integration with computer nets
ATM and Ethernet, that can use LCR function (Least Cost
Routing) due to VoATM or VoIP technology.
The second very important element of the system is
possibility for the IFC to rent a wireless telephone line and
charge the exhibitors for the connection.
The characteristic feature of the ProTel’s solution is ist
flexibility – The communication platform Hicom 300E is not
only the classical telephone system but also the
communication server ready to serve the future
applications. The system installed on Infosystem 2001
Fairs is the best sample of our potential. The Hicom 300E
was connected to the wireless computer network and VoIP
application under HiPath Siemens philosophy. Finally we have created a communication
system that is enable to transfer voice over ATM, IP using traditional or wireless system.
The integrated teleinformation system for the International Fairs Center, provide the
reliable solution: wireless access to the all applications on the whole IFC area, the
possibility of administrating the system through the computer network and integration
with the trunking connection.

The system allows for transmission of voice,
image and data over ISDN network. The
ISDN routers allow for variable transmission
rate, which is characteristic of advanced
communication technology. Depending on
the needs one or several B-channels may be established between two points, each
channels with flow rate equal 64 kbit/s.
The opportunity provided by utilization of the existing digital network belonging to ŁZE
S.A. causes significant reduction of operating costs as there is no need for voice
connections or data transfer between ZUS facilities over the public TP S.A. network. The
cost of subscription of digital lines, considering the amount of information exchanged
between individual facilities is significantly lower and constant, notwithstanding the
growing amount of data transfers and voice connections.
ISDN Hicom communication systems made by Siemens offer the best economic and
technical terms for the network covering ZUS facilities based on the existing network.
Transfer of voice, data and documents between all Hicom systems is possible with all
functional characteristics within the whole network. Connection between individual nodes
of the Hicom network is created over the private network of fiber-optic connections
leased from ŁZE SA. CorNet network protocol based on CCITT recommendations provides
uniform signalization in the network and taking advantage of benefits related to ISDN.
Charges are managed centrally by a GCU toll computer. Management and diagnostics
may be performed from the central site by NMC (Network Management Center).

Wide area communication network for the Ministry of
Defense
Modern communication is the backbone of the
modern army. The Polish Army therefore
seeks, if it is possible, the latest, proven
communication technologies of well-known
companies, such as Siemens.
ProTel implemented wide communication
network for the military. It was based on
synchronic multiplexers SMA1/4 and 1/4c by
Siemens, which are in the family of
TransXpress SDH. SMA1/4 and 1/4c are local
cross multipliers that allow switching BC
containers of all levels (resolution VC12) from
all signals connected to the switch module with tributary signal and aggregate signal
cards. For obvious reasons the detailed solution cannot be presented.
However, it is worth noting that the systems provide possibility of quick access to
information contained in distant locations (facilities several hundred kilometers apart).
Uniform system for management of communication equipment as well as full integration
and security of the network are additional benefits of the Siemens technology.

The communication network for Łódź power plant
Within years Polish power plants has come
through and modernization processes which
has change the way of cooperation with its
customers. In the open economy the
electricity is treated not as wealth but as
merchandise. In the Łódź macro region there
are three different companies that are trading
with energy:
-Zakład Energetyczny Łódź Miasto S.A.
-Zespół Elektrociepłowni Łódź S.A.
-Zakład Energetyczny Łódź Tern S.A.
The modernization process of the communication networks in Łódź macro region have
started in 1993. From the very beginning ProTel was in charge of that changes that have
improved the efficiency of the networks and quality of the customer service.
During that long lasting contract ProTel have prepare a concept of communication
networks between different divisions, have implemented hardwear and softwear side.
When designing the network we kept in mind that the communication server is the hart
of the system. The communication servers Hicom 300E, that the main characteristic is
diversity of available subscribers interfaces, plays a function of integration of all type of
the connections between three plants such as administration connection, dyspozytory
and the popular in energetic sector ETN connection. The system has 4000 subscribers in
the same homogeneous numeratic plan. Such a systems enables all customers in the
Łódź region be served well and fast by ZEŁ staff. The PDH fiberglass data transmition
system was built by ProTel using the Siemens OLTE equipment.
The whole fiberglass cable system measures 60 Km and covers all Łódź area. That
enables ZEŁ to offer to its customer a IT operator service.

The radio tranking comunication connection for ZE Łódź
– Tern
In ZE Łódź ProTel have designed and implemented the trunking (radiocommunication)
system based upon DIGICOM 7 equipment. System consists of nineteen base station
and two central node. The central nodes situated in Łódź and Piotrków Trybunalski by
dint of Hicom 300E enables the connection between each base station and integration of
radiocommunication with traditional wire system.
The core advantage of that reliable system is easy coordination of works in different
locations of ZE Łódź that leads to safety and better efficiency.
In order to provide ZE Łódź with teletransmition system essential to connect all base
stations and nodes, using acoustic connections and modems, ProTel have implemented
Siemens PDH (OLTE), FMX II, and fully digital energetic communication equipment ETN
(ESB 2000i).
So far ZE Łódź could transmit two telephone conversation on double acoustic ETN
channel.
Nowadays the system enables to transmit digital information (both ways) up to 64 kb/s.
Described above solution implemented by ProTel gives not only possibility of integration
of teletransmition base stations with central nodes that ensure the acoustic and digital
connection, but also the connection for the teleinformation and telemechanics.

Wild transmition network for Zakład Energetyczny
Wałbrzych
ZE Wałbrzych was build in 1945. Recently its activity covers
4168 Km2, the total length of the energetic lines is 9564
km. In order to effectively control and manage the whole
system the reliable transmition data system is needed that
enables telemechanic and teleprotection signals
transmition. The constant growth of automatization
processes have requested big demand for the transmition
channels. Among different technologies ProTel have decided
to implement the PDH and SDH Siemens solution in order to
build a high secure structure base on BSHR ring.
Recently the network STM-4 (622 Mbi/s) based on nine
nodes is build upon Siemens SMA 4C. In order to give a
wide range of servicies with different analog and digital
stream lines, ProTel have used FMX II multiplexers in PDH
technology as an access devices. Nowadays Siemens FMX II
multiplexers are serving 29 different energetic locations.
The compute networks in particular locations have been connected using Cisco routers
based on 155 Mbit/s SDH stream.
By using Access Integral (for the access devices PDH Siemens FMX II) and Network Craft
Terminal (for the backbone Siemens SDH SMA4 networks) management network
softwear, ZE Wałbrzych can easily and fast determine the break down in the system.

Integrate communication network for the University of
Szczecin
University of Szczecin within 15 years of its existence have extended the number of
students from 5 000 up to 28 000. It provide six faculties:
Humanities
Mat-physic
Economics and management
Nature science
Low and administration
Economics and management of services
The University of Szczecin have created AMSK
(Academic Urban Computer Network) that
embraces all Szczenins universities and campuses. Due to the fact that different locations
have had telephone centrals made by different companies, the whole network did not
create a homogenous structure. Because of that the university was receiving a high bills
for the connections. ProTel come out with proposal of building homogenous structure
based on Hicoms communication services using ATM. ProTel have implemented three
H300 and two H150 in five university locations. The servers are connected by fiberglass
and copper cable to the ATM.
Finally by 40% ProTel have reduced a connection costs. Moreover the created network
have opened a door to the knew applications such as homogenous voice mail, central
administration, broadband access.
