2. Banten, sebagai sebuah kawasan, sejak dulu memiliki keunikan dan kekuatan tersendiri yang didukung baik oleh alam
maupun budaya masyarakatnya. Sejarah telah mencatat berbagai femomena yang membanggakan tentang Banten.
Perkenalan dengan budaya barat di Indonesia secara massif dimulai dari berlabuhnya kapal VOC Cornelis de Houtman di
Banten, pelabuhan utama di Jawa pada tahun 1595-1597. Dari segi Budaya, masyarakat Banten memiliki ciri yang kental
dengan warna Islami, dan juga mempunyai masyarakat Baduy dengan budayanya yang khas. Alam Banten pun menyediakan
keunikan tersendiri yang dicatat dunia internasional berupa cagar alam Badak Jawa serta Gunung Krakatau yang fenomenal.
Saat ini, sebagai propinsi yang bersinggungan langsung dengan ibukota RI, kawasan Banten dipenuhi oleh beragam industri
baik dalam skala besar, menengah maupun kecil. Tidak dapat disangkal hal itu membawa konsekwensi berdatangan
penduduk dari segala penjuru Indonesia menghuni di propinsi Banten terutama di daerah Tanerang, Serang dan Cilegon.
Kini, di era globalisasi dimana gelombang informasi sebagai kekuatan yang merasuk di semua sendi kehidupan dengan
membawa paradigm-paradigma barunya, dimanakah posisi Banten? Bagaimana Banten harus bersikap menghadapi
gelombang perubahan yang sangat dahsyat itu?.
