Proposal
1. SINFUL Film Proposal.
Synopsis -
Name is an entity that has never fully opened up their heart to sin, they have lived a rather mundane
life until stumbling across what sinning can do for them and an innocent cake. Getting a taste for the
finer things in life their sanity starts to slip as they endeavour more into a sinful life. You never know -
maybe the cake is a lie.
Logline -
SINFUL is an experimental short film about a dull protagonist who wishes to learn more about āsinningā
and why it is such a punishable offence, creating their opinion by experiencing each one first hand.
Structure -
Act 1 - Name tries out the less harmful sins - Sloth and Pride, both not having much impact on them
or the cake, so instead decides to see how exactly far they can go.
Act 2 - After Sloth and Pride donāt give Name the desired effects, they start to increase the potential
risk factor, taking an endeavour into Envy, Gluttony and Pride, all which take an even worse toll on
Nameās mental state than the last.
Act 3 - Finally, driven to experience at least all of the sins, Name finally letās go- trying Lust and Wrath,
finally finishing their venture into sin, but at the cost of their sanity and a perfectly good cake.
Characters -
Name - A mysterious and rather irresponsible person, they seem to be capable of multiple severe
emotions, but do not have control over them, ultimately leading to their mental downfall when exposed
to such things as the sins.
Treatment -
Name starts in a dark room, they bring out a cake which is what theyāre going to be carrying out each
separate sin on, so as to not potentially hurt a real person. Name is a gener-queer person who is rather
mysterious throughout the ātrials of sin,ā with each separate endeavour effecting them in a variety of
ways. Starting with Sloth, they fall asleep onto the cake, drained and unmotivated to do anything,
however this barely damages the cake. Next, they explore Pride, bringing out a different cake which is
much more well decorated, taking photographs of it and posting it to social media because they are
happy with their creation, which does not damage the cake at all.
However, As they move towards much more dangerous sins like Envy - their underlying emotions start
to spill over, anger towards much better decorated cakes online, causing Name to vandalise images
of cakes that others would see as better than their own creation. Greed causes Name to hunt through
the cake, not caring if they ruin it, just to find a few pound coins, yet Gluttony causes them to eat the
remainder of the cake despite it previously having coins inside and being torn apart by someone else's
hands.
Finally, Name explores the last two and arguably, the most dangerous sins - Lust and Wrath both show
aggressive and unhinged behaviours, causing Name to slowly lose their grip on their own sanity. Killing
a lover due to large amounts of Lust and finally getting a taste for blood with Wrath shows the true
2. dangers of the more intense sins and how that can cause someone who initially seemed innocent- like
Name, to get pushed over the edge.
Target audience -
Sinful can hopefully and ideally be appreciated by anyone over the ages of 15, with the content of the
film, it will most likely be a 15 at minimum. Ideally, anyone of any gender identity can enjoy this, they
can put their own narrative into it so it can be whatever you wish for it to be. The film is most likely
suited to Reformers and Explorers the most compared to the other groups, the film is devoid of
meaning and is rather free. It is meant to appeal to you personally if you want it to be personal or can
be something completely detached and cold if that is what you wish. Hopefully I aim for them to be
between E and C1, this allows a large group of people who often donāt have things tailored to them to
have a film that is open to their interpretation whatever way they want.
