2. We have been asked to produce the “titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two
minutes”. The titles and opening must be an original piece and all ideas must originate from a group effort.
Our target audience is teenagers and young adults, as the thriller genre we have chose will appeal more to
this age group. This is due to the fact that younger people are more engaged and interested in faster paced
and imaginative scenes and ideas. This age group tend to be more inclined to watch films that are based
around genres that exhibit supernatural, psychological and violent themes.

3. Our initial ideas were to have an opening that established Thriller with elements of psychological horror
Movies with the theme of psychological horror demonstrate ideas based on characters and what underlying traits or
personalities lurking within them, exposing the evil that hides behind normality.
These movies are based around the portrayal and representation of the mental state. For example mental illnesses
could be and are usually portrayed as evil and demonic. By having the character with the illness onscreen fulfilling
evil tasks this creates a stereotype that relates the behaviour to the illness.
Our group all pitched in ideas
Daniel
“Based on our research findings we found a strong relationship among audiences that are aged between 18-25 years
old. And films that incorporate themes of violence, especially with the male category. It seems the more action and
violence packed a film is the more exiting people found it”. Daniel suspected this to be a social cause as males are
introduced to violence from an early age, for e.g. toys replicating army tools such as guns, and these being marketed
to appeal to males. In order for our idea to be a success Daniel felt that the element of violence would make for a
more exiting piece to watch. So in our piece we will incorporate some scene that has elements of violence.
Temnit
Temnit thought that based on the success of enigmatic themed films such as „inception‟ it will diversify the storyline
and make the piece more engaging to the audience. She felt that not just violence will appeal to an audience,
especially since we want to appeal to both genders. Temnit found that a large majority of people seek and enjoy films
that are not straight forward and more complex with many twists in the plot.
Kelly
Kelly thought that having the thriller have a supernatural underlying storyline, she felt that this would make it less
of a cliché and more original. Therefore there would be more chance to expand our target audience. Kelly also made a
point of not having any dialogue in the scenes, she felt that it would be more interesting for the audience to view as
there are no diegetic onscreen sounds taking attention away from the scenes.

5. Final idea
Our final idea
Our final idea was to have one focal character that our actor (Tom) will play. The character is a young male
adult affected by a mental disorder (Schizophrenia). However the disorder affects his sleep, he is cursed by
dreams that he believes are real and its in this surreal state that bad things happen. In his slumber state a
personality that has manifested inside the character due to his disorder comes to reality and affects the
character while he is asleep due to his unstable emotional state. The plot will involve the character waking up
in a false reality that he believes to be true he will go to the kitchen in search of a drink, there will be a glow
by the front door and his power will cut out. These will bring elements of confusion, enigma and suspense to
the piece. The character will then proceed outside to the fuse box in the garage in the garden, then return to
the lights functioning. While he is in the bathroom washing his face this is when a supernatural occurrence will
happen. After this is done the character will be shown in his bed waking up but to normal reality.
