Mineral contamination can seriously affect the performance of wells and boreholes. The most common types of contamination are iron bacteria and iron oxide encrustation, calcium carbonate and manganese oxide contamination. Possible reasons for contamination include presence of bacteria or minerals before a bore is drilled, contaminated water used during the drilling process or changes in the chemistry of the groundwater, all of which provide an environment in which bacteria and mineralisation can become established. Whatever the cause these residues will eventually affect nearly everyone who sources water from aquifers. Operational problems caused by mineral clogging include reduction in the yield and hydraulic efficiency of the borehole, deterioration of water quality, motor burn out of the submersible pump, and encrustation on the pump, column and screen. As a result the energy costs of pumping increase, due to increased drawdown, and maintenance costs increase due to greater equipment wear and tear and borehole rehabilitation costs. Geoquip Water Solutions has been developing a borehole maintenance programme for the last ten years and the programme, which incorporates the BoreSaver range of treatments, has achieved notable successes globally in the management of iron oxide, iron bacteria and other mineral problems. The goal of the BoreSaver borehole maintenance programme is to return borehole production to as close to the original drilled capacity as possible and to help maintain a continual, problem-free water supply. The programme includes a downhole CCTV camera survey, bespoke software that analyses the survey results and the available water quality data and BoreSaver, a range of approved borehole rehabilitation treatments that are now used in more than fourteen countries worldwide. BoreSaver treats water supply systems contaminated with iron bacteria, iron oxide, manganese oxide and calcium carbonate deposits. The treatments completely remove the deposits that build up and cause blockages in wells, pipes, pumps and any other water related equipment. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall.
