Social Media: Is it right for your
business?
Social media has been taking over
the world of marketing in recent
years.
With many application platforms
and a huge following of millions of
users for each, it’s important to
consider:
1)  Could social media benefit your business plan?
2)  Which platforms will work best for your
business?
+
Social Media: Is it right for your
business?
In this presentation, we will consider:
n The benefits of social media for your business
n The disadvantages of social media
n Various platforms and applications, as well as
their benefits and disadvantages
n Future projections in social media trends
+
Social Media Benefits
n  Wide audience reach with added ability to directly target
users within your desired demographic
n  Low or no-cost marketing (compared to high cost for
traditional methods)
n  Improves accessibility (reduction and/or removal of
geographical, time, communication barriers)
n  Feels more personal; your content may be shared
amongst friends and family, mimicking a “referral” from a
trusted source to potential clients
+
Social Media Possible
Disadvantages
n  Large volume of competitors; how will you stand out in the
crowd?
n  Requires careful consideration, planning, training, and
implementation to be effective
n  Requires consistent time input for both content and
interaction in addition to daily business
n  Errors cannot be easily remedied or retracted; content is
quickly and easily spread making social media
unforgivable with flaws

Which apps are right for you?
So you’ve decided to take the
plunge into social media for your
business, but you don’t know
where to start. The next step is
to determine which platforms or
applications you will use on
social media. It is important to
carefully consider your style - do
you prefer to research and
produce new content, simply
share content generated by
others, participate actively in
groups, etc. Depending upon
your style, here are some
recommendations for
applications to use:
