This document contains descriptions of several tree species: Lodgepole pine, which is a slow growing species that can live over 500 years; cottonwood, a pioneer species that is very intolerant of competition; purple leaf plum tree, which has purple leaves and can grow to 25 feet tall; green ash tree, which is valued for its light but strong wood; and shellbark hickory, a deciduous tree native to the Midwest that prefers moist soil and can reach 80 feet tall.
