Reporting Month: February,2017
1.Sourcing of PWDs
Activity 1 - Identification of PWDs,
Description of the activity: In this month we identify 35pwds form our
local area.
LRC Kolkataregistered ,Total PWDs 35( 25 Males and 10Females)
This month we registered all typesof disabilities like orthopedically
handicapped,speech and hearing impaired,visually impaired and Intellectual
disability also.
Major Outcome/ Achievements:
After proper assessment 35 PWDs were registered in Kolkata centre.
Challenges Faced, how was it addressed/planned to overcome:
Most of the timePwDs are not willing to give us xerox documents as they think we will
cheat them.
Manytimes PWDs thinks that we will pay money only as they get stipend from govt.
Many pwd are over aged therefore we cantregiatered them.
Strategies adopted for identification:-
· Focus on partnership with NGO including NGOs working in rural areas
· Utilizing existing data smartly and effectively
· Give advertisement in newspaper

· Meeting with Government officials locally eg. Municipality, Gram Panchayet and local
councillors
2: Comprehensive Skill Assessment, Career Guidance
/Counselling
Description of activity:-After doingRegistration ,proper career guidance and
counseling provided to 35 PWDsby LRC members.
Major Outcomes/ achievements:After assessment PwDs were referred for
foundation and vocational training.
Strategies for Assessment:
Periodic counseling needs to be done
Unrealistic expectation of candidates needs to be toned down at the beginning
Regular engagement with PwDs needs to be done
For skill assessment LRC ask them about their likes and dislikes,hobbies and what
kind of jobs they interested etc.
To know the interest level of the candidates and ask the questions related to their
interesting area.
While doing the assessment of the PwDs LRC staffs try to make them speake
comfortably about themselves.
3. Training (Foundation, vocational and EDP )
Foundation Training
Activity3:Foundation Training Completed at LRC, kolkata
Description of activity: In this month, Total 32 number of candidates were
facilitated for foundation training by Kolkata LRC.This month foundation training was given
on topics like self introduction,how to write a mail for applying for the suitable post,basic
interview skills,types of interviews,mock interview ,grooming,basic soft skills, personality
development work ethics,skilldevelopment,tips for improving communication
skills,Resumebuilding,Groupdiscussion, self motivation.This foundation training was given by
LRC training officers.
3. Monthly Report
Major Outcomes/ achievements:After receiving the training candidates become
confident and then they were ready to face interviewsessions.With the help of mock
interviews candidates become free from the fear of the interviewnow they will go for
aninterview with a great confidence and self dependent.In group discussion PWDs were able
to share their views on the topic given to them.
Challenges Faced, how was it addressed/planned to overcome:
Sourcing educated PWDs for training is a tough task.
Mobilization with new batch is sometimes very tough.
Candidates directly want job instead of training.Sometime they don’t want to attend any
kind of training.
Most of the time they don’t want to complete a long time training.
Strategies for Foundation Training:
Before starting up the session previous knowledge of the candidates were tested
and after doing proper assessment and evaluation of their skills candidates were
divided into groups and as per their need training was provided to them.
Worksheets and assignments were given to know their learnings.
Activities were planned like this to get answers from students only( active
participation in class )
Mock interviews for the build of confidence.
Short term training does not make a big difference because skills of some PWDs were
very weak they need more practice more time .
Vocational Training
Activity :5 Vocational Training at LRC, kolkata
1. In this month of February, Vocational training has started in the sector of Retail at
NSHM with 9 PwD.
2. Started in December, 16pwd are continuing their vocational training in ATDC.

Mobilization is really tough for training because some PWDs do not know the
importance of training.
In interior people are low education, they do not want to send their disable girl
outside for training.
Limited training options.

o Wage employment in rural areas needs to be focused
5. Monthly Report
o Garment sector
o Leather product manufacturing
Increase linkage with more new employers.
To avoid failure in job placement , proper assessment was done before sending a candidate
for a proper interview.
Post placement support was given to PWDs so that they travel to their workplaces
without any financial barrier.
