Project Management?
27/01/26 06:24
• Any example from day to day life
• Project Management is the set of activities
• includes initiating, planning, executing, controlling & closing the project.
• that gives principles, techniques & tools to finish things on time & within
budget.
What does Project Management Entail?
27/01/26 06:24
• Planning: is the most critical and gets the least amount of our time.
• Organizing: Orderly fashion (Contingent/Prerequisites)
• Controlling: Is critical if we are to use our limited resources wisely.
• Measuring: To determine if we accomplished the goal or met the target?
Measuring?
27/01/26 06:24
• Are we efficient?
• Are we productive?
• Are we doing a good job?
• What is the outcome?
• Is it what we wanted to be?
• If you can’t plan it, You can’t do it
• If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it
Why Project Management?
27/01/26 06:24
• To track or measure progress achieved towards goal
• To help in optimization of the resources
• Enables to map course of action or work plan
• Helps to think systematically & effectively
• Variety of resources, time bound tasks & specific objectives for project
27/01/26 06:24
Project Management
27/01/26 06:24
• is work methodology
• Set of activities bound to timeline,
• with specific cost,
• With objective to deliver specific solution
Project Management
27/01/26 06:24
Project + Management = Project Management
27/01/26 06:24
• Project: Activity with defined start & finish date
• Management: Coordinating human and material resources to achieve
an outcome
• Project Management: Coordinating resources to accomplish an activity
and achieve an outcome, within a specified time period.
Activity 1: Make a plane
• Rules:
• A team has to make as many as aero planes possible from the given resources and launch them for a given
distance.
• The paper should be folded only once by each team member in a group (however the paper can be passed
any number of times till aero planes’ are ready to launch).
• Nose of the aero plane should be folded.
• Shortest person in your team should launch the plane.
• Aero planes should travel minimum distance of 4 meters.
• Measure your success as a team using the given formula.

Duration : 15 min

Project Management Strategies
27/01/26 06:24
• Approaches in handling projects, dictating how team works and
outcomes are measured.
• No one methodology is better than other
• Each approach has its pros and cons and is designed for specific project
scenarios
Project Management Methodologies
27/01/26 06:24
• Waterfall
• Kanban
• Critical Path Method (CPM)
• Lean Project Management
• Six Sigma
• Agile
• Scrum
Waterfall Model
27/01/26 06:24
• In this, project is completed in distinct stages and
• moved step by step toward ultimate release to consumers
• focus on execution of plan in a linear or sequential fashion, hoping there
won’t be any changes in the plan
• first software development methodology, inherited from manufacturing
& construction industry
• planning is the most important thing on waterfall projects

Agile
27/01/26 06:24
• Approach of project management that favours responding to change
over careful planning
• Agility is the ability to adapt and respond to change
• Ability to move quickly and easily
• Ability to think and understand quickly.
• The Agile methodology is a way to manage a project by breaking it up
into several phases.
Two ways to manage projects
27/01/26 06:24
• Waterfall: plan everything in advance, then build according to the
plan for the next whole year
• Agile: plan what you'll build in the next few weeks, and see how it
goes from there
Agile
27/01/26 06:24
• Set of methods that help team
• to think more effectively
• work more effectively
• make better decisions
• In Agile methods
• objectives are defined by the customer,
• while final deliverables can change.
Agile Methodology
27/01/26 06:24
• Project team works in
• iterative cycles,
• evaluating results after each cycle, and
• always collaborating with customers.
• Encourage : flexibility, adaptability & communication
• Overcome drawbacks of Waterfall Model
Agile : Iterative & Incremental Product Development
27/01/26 06:24
• Is a time boxed, iterative approach to product delivery
• instead of trying to deliver product all at once, builds system
incrementally

Agile vs Waterfall
27/01/26 06:24
Agile Waterfall
Iterative & Incremental Approach Sequential approach
Works well when scope of project is unknown Works well when scope of project is known
beforehand
Adaptive Won’t allow changes to be made
Low risk of failure More risk of failure
Testing during development cycles Testing done only at end
Provide more flexibility Limited Flexibility
Scrum
27/01/26 06:24
• Scrum is a way to restart the game after an interruption, where the
forwards of each side come together in a tight formation and struggle
to gain possession of the ball when it is tossed in among them.
Scrum Framework
27/01/26 06:24
• Scrum got its name from rugby.
• In rugby, scrum is when a team huddles around the ball and tries to
move it down the field in order to win.
• Scrum is a metaphor meant to reflect how everyone needs to work
together to complete the project.
How Scrum Works?
27/01/26 06:24
• In scrum teams develop product in sprints and release what they've
worked on every two weeks.
• This way, customers get bug/error fixes (changes) and new features as
soon as they're done, and there's less risk altogether
• Delivery of new product and functionality every two weeks to customer

• The most important role involved in Scrum
• The reason a Team is developing a Product
• Business Owner (BO):
• A special stakeholder, often the Team's sponsor or champion and
controls the budget for the Team
Roles Scrum
27/01/26 06:24
• Product Owner (PO): Most important person on the Scrum Team
Works with Stakeholders to represent their interests to the Team
Held accountable for the value of the Team's results
• Scrum Team Members: Do the work (analysis, design, code, test,
document, data quality checks, or whatever work is required for a desired
outcome)
• Scrum Master (SM) : Facilitator, moderator, and coach Manages
relationship between PO & ScrumTeam , Focuses on team improvement
