Unit 3: Portraiture





Tools you should be using:













Custom paint brush to paint colors
Layers – use multiple layers for each area of the
painting (foreground, midground, background)
Change opacities of the brush and use the ALT
(eyedropper) to sample colors as your paint
Use burn and dodge to lighten and darken areas of the
painting
Use blending modes (multiply, screen, overlay) for
effects and adjustments of shading
Use filters (sketch, color pencil, chrome etc.)
Use the smudge tool to blend








Uses the above tools
Shows a strong light source
All colors are blended and show range (dark to mid to
light)
Textures and details enhance the image
Objects show proportion and scale
Overall impression of peers
Professional quality concept art (could be used in a
video game, movie or other commercial project)
