A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a web app that uses modern web capabilities to deliver an app-like experience to users. These apps meet certain requirements, are deployed to servers, accessible through URLs, and indexed by search engines.
Progressive Web App (PWA) is a term used to denote web apps that use the latest web technologies. Progressive web apps are technically regular web pages (or websites) but can appear to the user like traditional applications or (native) mobile applications. This new application type attempts to combine features offered by most modern browsers with the benefits of mobile experience.

What are the principles to build a progressive web app? What are its core features? What about its architecture? The blog explores it all. Give it a read. https://www.webguru-india.com/blog/checklist-for-progressive-web-app-development/
A progressive web application is a type of application software delivered through the web, built using common web technologies including HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It is intended to work on any platform that uses a standards-compliant browser.
The Web has grown from sharing information as document to highly scalable application. With the introduction of Progressive web apps, we now have a whole new way to rethink and architect client applications across multiple platforms. The primary motive of a PWA is for it feel like a native app irrespective of the platform.
“Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are web applications that load like regular web pages or websites but can offer the user functionality such as working offline, push notifications, and device hardware access traditionally available only to native mobile applications. PWAs are an emerging technology that combine the open standards of the web offered by modern browsers to provide benefits of a rich mobile experience”
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) - Transforming the Future of Full-Stack Developme...mohitreal1995
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) seamlessly blend web and mobile app technologies, transforming full-stack development. PWAs offer cross-platform compatibility, offline functionality, and a native app-like experience. They reduce development costs with a single codebase, enhance user engagement, and simplify maintenance. Technical aspects include service workers, app manifest, responsive design, HTTPS, app shell architecture, and testing tools. PWAs, revolutionizing the industry, provide businesses with cost-effective, accessible, and engaging app experiences. Full-stack developers can leverage existing skills, making PWAs an ideal choice for modern, user-centric applications. Embracing PWAs is crucial for staying ahead in the evolving landscape of full-stack development.
PWAs are quick, function offline and can also perform like a conventional native application. This provides users with a positive experience. PWAs and Web Applications perform the same functions and are extremely comparable in many aspects. And since we’ve understood how trending they are in today’s time, PWA would definitely be a good choice for your company!
The importance of developing PWAs in ReactJsReactJS
The web is a mix of ubiquity across devices and operating systems, making it the most incredible platform. Its user-centered security model and features like the implementation process controlled by a single company make it the best platform for software development. Its inherent linkability help users search and share what they have found from anywhere and to anyone. Whenever a user visits a website, they expect the site to be updated and enhanced user experience, which is possible with PWAs ReactJS web app development services using a single codebase.
Choose a native application if you need:
Ingration with certain device capabilities, such as calendars, contacts, browser
bookmarks, alarms or other applications.
The ability to intercept SMS messages or calls or obtain users’ phone numbers.
Demanding hardware usage such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
The ability to launch without an internet connection

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

2. What is a PWA ?
2
Web applications that are regular web pages or
websites, but can appear to the user like traditional
applications or native mobile applications
A term that originated in 2015 from within the heart of Google
A set of design principles that guide the developers to use the
provisional capabilities of the web browser encompasses the PWAs
3. Why
Progressive
Web Apps?
3
2.5 billion people use smartphones today
Mobile app for an online business is a must
Modern browsers can provide features that
are usually utilized by native applications on
various operating systems
6. Reliability
6
The modern browsers have a feature called service worker.
Regular websites need the network connection to load the page and
provide service.
A service worker can load the webpage instantly with some stored
content irrespective of the network condition.
This improves reliability as all the users would be able to see some of
the page components loaded immediately with some data as well.
The pre-caching of information will allow the web application to provide
functionalities even with the absence of a network connection.
7. Speed
7
Speed is a significant performance metric for a Progressive Web
App.
A study by Google on website performance found out that a mobile
user will navigate away from the website if it takes more than 3
seconds to load.
To make sure users aren’t lost due to the long loading time, PWAs
follow the principles of building simple, light weight components
that are faster to load.
8. Engaging Experience
8
Progressive Web Apps are installable and live on the user's home
screen, without the need for an app store.
They offer an immersive full screen experience with help from a
web app manifest file and can even re-engage users with
web push notifications.
The Web App Manifest allows you to control how your app
appears and how it's launched.
You can specify home screen icons, the page to load when the
app is launched, screen orientation.
10. manifest.json
10
An app manifest file should describe the resources your app
will need.
This includes your app’s displayed name, icons, as well as
splash screen.
If you link to the manifest file in your index.html, browsers
will detect that and load the resources for you.
11. Service
Worker
11
A service worker, written in JavaScript, is like a client-
side proxy and puts you in control of the cache and
how to respond to resource requests.
By pre-caching key resources you can eliminate the
dependence on the network, ensuring an instant and
reliable experience for your users.
Service worker provides a programmatic way to cache
app resources. Be it JavaScript files or JSON data
from a HTTP request.
• Display and interact with notifications (native OS)
• Manage all network traffic of the page and do any
manipulations
• Background sync APIs - defer actions until users
have stable connection
• Subscribe to push services
14. Testing
PWAs
14
Manual testing
• Testing on various browsers and devices (older browsers will not support PWAs)
• Capability to add the PWA to the home screen
• It should start to behave like an app and not like a website when click on icon
• Testing without network connection (in airplane mode)
• Testing the icons, splash screen, start URL, background colors, display type, initial
orientation and theme colors are properly displayed across browsers
15. Google Lighthouse
15
Lighthouse is an open-
source, automated tool for
improving the quality of your
web apps.
Can be used by run from the
command line, as a Node
module, or by installing the
Chrome Extension.
Lighthouse also provides a
REST API which is consumed
by sites like web.dev and
PageSpeed Insights.
