Week 3 Assignment 1
Introduction
The company that I have chosen to discuss in this writing assignment is Google. Starting as Backrub by two graduate students who had the vision to create a search engine with links attached to the world wide web. Google is a leading technology company that consists of vast amounts of software and hardware that is available worldwide. Their unconventional methods were the basis Google was founded by and they are continuing by creating hundreds of products used daily by millions of people and majority of their services are free. Their headquarters is in Parkway in Mountain View, California, United States. As of now, this company has developed and implemented the mechanisms that have enabled it to compete effectively in the global realm of Information technology. Also, the company has heavily invested in the most modern programs and services that have enabled it to consolidate its global business status.
In this paper I will be discussing how globalization and technology changes have impacted Google, how the company can earn above average returns based on the industrial organizations model, how the vision and mission statement influences its’ overall success, and how each category of stakeholder impacts the success of the company.
Globalization
Since Google has dominated the search engine industry, it seems only fair for them to dominate the rest of world, right? Google is a leader in reaching a global market. In 2005, the company decided it was going to expand their market to China, Europe, and Japan. Today, Google serves over 100 countries however, 25 of them are partially blocked. Although you would think that Google would be in competition with Bing or Yahoo, according to an article from searchengineland.com the Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt stated that their biggest search competitor is Amazon. Apple and Facebook are among the global competiors. These companies are also innovative which creates heat for Google. Although Android controls majority of the market, Apple’s innovative creations can’t be ignored. The article also states that Facebook and Google combined make up more than 50 percent of the overall markets, from a mobile and market share perspective.
Technology
Technology evolves at a speed of 18 months according to Moore’s Law which is also known as technology diffusion. According to the text book disruptive technology destroy the value of an existing technology and creates new ones and new products contribute to the information age. Google’s strategy always keeps consumers fresh with new technology that is designed to never keep the consumer waiting. They are surpassing their competitors with items such as Google Duplex which is a speaker like Amazon’s Alexa, Gmail upgrades, Google Maps, .

Introduction to the company
Google LLC is a US international technology organization that focusses on Internet-related products and services, which contain search engines, online marketing technologies, cloud computing, hardware, and software. The purpose of Google management is to organize all the information in the world and create it nearby and beneficial to everyone (Shane, & Wakabayashi, 2018).
The company Google was born as a search engine for more information on the web. Its main characteristic with respect to its competitors was its advanced system of analysis of relations between pages, which allowed a higher ranking or ranking. Google's next step was to use this information to introduce advertising and manipulate the ranking based on the payment for such advertising. The enormous benefits that the company achieves are reinvested in new services and new policies that have strengthened the individual-segmentation relationship, reaching perfect segmentation (Mingers, & Lipitakis, 2010).
Google is an American multinational company focusing on products and services linked to the Internet, electronic devices, software and other expertise. Google's key product is the Internet content search engine of the similar name, although it also provides other services such as an email service called Gmail, its Google Earth map and Google Maps service, the YouTube video website, others Web values such as Google News or Google Books, the Google Chrome web browser, the Google+ social network. It provides an easy and quick way to find info on the web, by access to a catalogue of over 8,168 million web pages. As said by the Google company, currently replies to above 200 million queries a day (Verma, et.al. 2015, April).

In 1995, Page had finished his studies at the University of Michigan and went to do his graduate degree at Stanford University, California. In this same university he meets Brin, 21, who was in charge of teaching him the campus (Verma, et.al. 2015, April). How is Google funded?

Larry Page, CEO, Google
Larry Page is the current CEO of Google, the world’s most popular search engine. His father was a pioneer in computer science and artificial intelligence and his mother taught computer programming, so the most logical educational route was for Larry to study computer engineering. He is a graduate of Stanford University where he met his partner and co-founder Sergey Brin; as a research project, Page and Brin created a search engine that listed results according to the popularity of the pages. They called this search engine Google after the mathematical term “Googol” which is a 1 followed by 100 zeros (Biography). Their mission was to take all of the world’s information and organization it in such a way to be useful to people in any location, country and industry. Google started with donations family and friends in 1998. Google receives over 200 million queries a day. Google headquarter in the heart of the Silicon Valley in Californian and has been a public traded company since 2004. In 2006, Google purchased YouTube, the most popular video streaming website which added $4 Billion to Larry Pages net worth of $23 Billion of March 2013.
Larry Pages Leadership and Philosophy
Google has never operated like the traditional company and it does not have to base on its successes. Pages believes to be successful you do not need to focus on beating your competition, instead he focuses on innovations. Page thinks there’s a fundamental problem in how companies are run and the media plays a large role in that, as if it’s a sporting event (Levy, 2013). This creates two issues; one is motivation. He explains that you do not get the best out of people when all your concentrating on is what are the other guy doing. The second is, making small changes to be ahead of the competition. If all you do is small improvements on existing things, you will just get incremental improvements. Google has stood out in since they emerged on the scene. One big innovation is Google’s Street-view Maps, when everyone said it could not be done, Page insisted in driving his car around Michigan, taking pictures and proving everyone else wrong. Page collected still pictures from the back of an SUV, lined them up to create the first street view (Crum, 2013). The original launch happen in 2007 in the United States and now has expanded to all seven continents with a 360-degree panoramic view all streets in most cities around the world. Now, Google Street View can be used for small to medium companies who want to provide a sneak peek into their company similar to a virtual tour. This is a great insight to gyms, restaurants and attractions. Google Street View even has a off the grid view where any person can see tourist attractio ...

Product Management at Google
1. June 2005
Product Management at Google - How to rapidly bring breakthrough products to market
Speaker: Dipchand "Deep" Nishar, Director, Product Management, Google
Dipchand "Deep" Nishar, Director of Wireless Products at Google spoke to a sell out crowd at the June
8, 2005 meeting of the SVPMA. Deep spoke about "Product Management at Google - How to Bring
Breakthrough Products to Market." The speaker discussed six ingredients that have contributed to
Google's great success.
Break the Mold - Constantly innovate
a. Google is always looking for products that can be radically better. For example, prior to Gmail, web
mail had little innovation since hotmail defined the category. Google looked at the problem and decided
folders were inadequate to manage the 100+ emails that many of us receive per day. So they focused on
search. They further innovated with threading, and then leveraged their competency at structuring large
systems to give everyone a gigabyte of storage at launch.
b. Google maps focused on map quality, showing streets in 2-d and making scrolling smooth. Further,
Google added satellite images. This is a novelty in the US but is necessary in other markets, such as
China, Japan, and Brazil, where street signs do not exist and people navigate by landmarks.
Focus on the User. First and foremost, Google will not compromise its brand for money. If it does
not help the user, Google won't do it. Secondly, Google's core mission is to organize all the worlds
information. Since only 5% of the world's informaion is on the web, Google has introduced other products
such as desktop search.
Power of Small teams. Google employees are expected to spend 20% of their time working on a new
idea. The team starts with 1 engineer or 1 product manager whose job it is to go out and prove the
product by creating a successful prototype and recruiting others to devote their 20% time to the project.
Once the prototype is created, it goes in front of the product council. If approved, the project grows to 1
Product Manager and 2 -3 Engineers to develop the product fully enough for a Google Lab Launch. If the
product continues to be successful, it then gets a full team and is rolled out. This method of bubbling up
projects ensures good projects make it to the top and weak projects get weeded out before any major
investment.
It's not just the biology - it's also about the chemistry. Google knows it's more than just finding
the smartest people. It must also find people who are a good cultural fit. They employ a rigorous (and
somewhat unorthodox) interviewing process to make sure that the chemistry is a fit and that they hire
people with whome the team is excited to work.
Think Big. Google didn't just try to create a better search, it set-out to organize the world information and
make it universally acceptable. Google strives to understand what the user wants and retrieve it for them.
Mr. Nishar's group, Google Mobile, is central to the company's mission because half the people in the
world will access Google for the first time through a wireless device rather than a desktop computer.
PM is the GM without the title. The Product Manager has to act as the general manager of the product.
He or She is tasked with understanding user's issues, defining the product, securing distribution,
preparing sales, and working with any partners. Also, the PM must be a generalist because products
move too fast.
About the Speaker

Prior to Google, Deep worked at Siebel Systems where he was a member of the founding team of
the Universal Application Network (UAN) business unit. He is a 15 year veteran of technology. He

where he was awarded the Institute Silver Medal. Deep also received a Masters of Science in Electrical
