Product Evaluation
 Product evaluation is a kind of evaluation
where in the evaluator views and scores the final
product made and not on the actual
performance of making that product.
 It is concerned on the product alone and not
on the process.
 It is more concerned to the outcome of the
performance of the learner.
 It also focuses on achievement of the learner.
 Product evaluation focuses on evaluating the
result or outcome of a process.
The learning competencies associated with products
or outputs are linked with an evaluation with three levels of
performance manifested by the product, namely:
1) BEGINNERS LEVEL
2) SKILLED LEVEL
&
3) EXPERT LEVEL
There are other ways to state product oriented learning
competencies. For instance, we can define learning competencies for
products or outputs in the following way.
Level 1: Does the finished product or project illustrate the minimum
expected parts or functions? [Beginner]
Level 2: Additional parts and functions on top of the minimum
requirements which tend to enhance the final product?
[Skilled level]
Level 3: Does the finish product contain the basic minimum parts
and functions, have the additional features on the top of the
minimum, and is aesthetically pleasing? [Expert level]
Objective Based Evaluation
 Evaluation based on pre- determined objectives is
called objective based evaluation.
 “What to measure and evaluate”? is the crucial
problem in evaluation.
 There is relationship between objectives, learning
experiences and evaluation.
 Any experience provided in the class room which
results in learning is called learning experiences.
 Instruction aimed at the attainment of pre-determined
objective is called objective based instruction.
 The evaluation based on pre-determined objective is
called objective based evaluation.
Objective, learning experience and evaluation are
interrelated. The interrelationship between objectives and
evaluation is evident from the fact that evaluation is based
on objectives and those objectives are selected as can be
measured and evaluated. The close relationship between the
three are symbolically represented in the diagram.

A test-constructor may include only the relevant
objectives in his design. But he should specify them.
That is, he should give proper weightage to each of
the relevant objectives in the design of the question
paper. Consequently, the area of the content, and the
number and form of questions (essay type, short
answer type and objective type) should be decided on
the basis of the design. Once the objectives have been
specially stated it will guide the selection of what to
teach? and how to teach?
