- Hi guys…Let me start my presentation with this comic strip.. Please have a look.. What do you see? The manager/boss thought that he might be doing a good job managing the company, his co-workers.. Relating with them… But all of a sudden, when he assigned an interview to his entrusted colleague.. This happened…Well I think, this a usual scenario in an organization.. If The manager or the boss, does not even bother to look within his organization or his team.. And is insensitive to their sentiments.. He might end up being resented… And so here are some of the principles of management that were taught during the course that struck me the most.. And included some of my thoughts.. There were a lot of theoretical Management concepts that were taught during class.. But there we’re also a lot of Words of Wisdom.. That came from the experiences of our professor.. that were shared during the whole course…
- There are different stage that a manager or a leader should undergo to be able to become a good and effective manager.. In the first stage of the life of a manager, he can only crawl. Because he doesn’t know yet anything in being a manager, or has very little knowledge. And so he should allow external factors to teach and train him while he is in this stage. Like a baby, who cannot walk unless somebody holds his hands, this is the stage that managers still need assistance.During the learning process, managers found out the different fundamentals of Management. From colleagues.. From the boss.. From the team.. From trainings and From experiences.. Tell your story of your training in your company… In this stage also the managers endures all the struggles of being an apprentice. Like when I was newly hired by our company, we underwent 6 months of boot camp. We start at the bottom. And at the end, if we do not pass we will not be regularized. And so in our batch of 24 fresh grads, only 18 were able to stay. As our characters as a managers are being molded because of the amount of knowledge we receive.. here, our beliefs our culture..and this is where our dreams are created…
- Remember in the beginning of the course, sir mentioned about being hungry and always wanting for learning.. Stay Hungry and Be humble. Otherwise learning will stop. And you can become obsolete and you will be left behind.. So no matter how good you are at a certain point, if you stop learning you might end up being a failure. Just like in a company.. You might end up being bankrupt if you do not allow improvements happen..There should also be an attitude of wanting to be mentored by being humble.. You let others teach you.. You learn from their experiences… so you do not repeat the same mistake.. A friend once told me.. That success is not measured by how rich you become but how you have influenced others to be successful..You know a way To absorb fully, you repeat… and repeat and repeat.. Because repetition is the mother of all skill.. Just like in preparing a roast chicken for example.. You marinate.. Not only simple seasonings.. But you marinate.. Add additional flavor.. Special flavor.. So the final taste would be extraordinary.. Remember the looking at the big picture statement.. We have learned that the process of Management is
- The input are: The resources: Human, Financial, Raw materials, technology, information
- Planning, organizing, leading, controlling,
- Performance: Attainment of organizational goals, in an effective and efficient manner, products, services, Just like a computer each part is vital to the whole process. And if one is not working correctly, it might affect the other parts as well.
- The next stage which is the Walk stage happens when we start to apply what we have learned from the previous stage. However, since we still are a beginner, we are still prone to mistakes and failure which is okay. Because we learn more in every failure and our confidence builds up. In this stage, we also learn to walk side by side with another person, or colleague or co-worker. As we build our experience, we interact more, we collaborate more. And because there is interaction, knowledge sharing takes place.. Which is very vital in our roles as a manager, interpersonal, informational, decisional.. As a result, we influence others and others influence us. We learn from the experience.. And so we tend to compare who is more effective, what is the best practice.. etc.. And then we learn to adapt.
- Story of the Goldfish.. That’s what happens if we stop adapting to changes..if we resist change.. We bound and limit ourselves of our full potentail and performance.. and We cannot maximize our full potential if we stop adapting to change.. Especially nowadays.. That everything is evolving so fast…
- As we become more confident because we become wiser and equipped after the experiences, we tend to gain momentum and start to run. However, as go up the ladder, as become wiser, bigger responsibilities are assigned to us.. This man on the pictures is running over mountains…In our respective companies, we have our own mountains… our problems and our challenges that our companies face… This for me depicts that as managers, we should be able to overcome the mountains in our respective company… And so Sometimes we have to impose change to overcome these mountains… And a lot of times, these changes are not welcomed by a lot of employees..they resist it.. This is when we apply the 8 steps in implementing change.. create a sense of urgency, 2. create a dream team 3. change the vision/goals 4. Communicate “act” 5. empowerment – action 6. small gains 7. never let go! (FOCUS ON THE DREAM, ON WHAT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, NOT ON THE MOUNTAIN) 8. Then New culture will be bornAlso it is here that we experience competition. If we run slowly we will be left behind, but if we run faster, we will leave them behind.
- And so to overcome our mountains and To be successful in every competition(I believe sir has mentioned a lot.. But these were what I remember the most), The 3 D’s: …Differentiation… you have to innovate.. As what sir has most of the time mention to us, that we have to have something different from our competitors.. Something better.. Something unique.. That your customers will stand in awe… where have you been? whenever they buy your product and experience your service.. Aside from giving a service, you’ll be giving an emotional experience… Delegate…. You to have to Entrust the work to your co-workers… you have to empower themDelegate or empower your employees. Trust them and give them the opportunity to shine and prove their worth.Treat them as your partners, you give them responsibilities so you can other things to work on.. Determination, (Where we never lose hope,) (sir sited about doing everything you can, just to avoid bigger costs, he was doing everything he can do.. He was multi tasking.. In our office, we always reiterate the company’s goals.. So that all employees are focused on our goals.. You have to really work hard to achieve your objectives
- Whatever you conceive you can achieveThe power of the mind… that all your bodily functions will follow.. Whatever mountains you face.. Your challenges your organization experiences.. You have to focus on what is on the other side.. You have to set your mind on your goals.. And eventually you’ll reach it
- The last stage is glide. This is where the manager enjoy the fruits of their hard labor. The part wherein you enjoy your harvest after all the struggles and hard work. The time that you now can relax. And start passing your knowledge to others. So that other may learn and continue what you have started. And start passing your knowledge to others.In an organizational perspective, this is where they were able to meet the company’s goals, target performance, expected sales, etc.. As a result, all the exemplary employees will be rewarded by the company. In other words, this is the stage of Fulfillment.
- Do you know that Only 10% of the iceberg is exposed above the ocean.. Do you know where is the 90%? Ask me where?
- Underneath.. It is like the managers and leaders in the company… they are in the frontline… they are at the top… but what is below are the resources.. The employees, the raw materials and the whole organization… so managers should be able to look within, (Entrust) and maximize the full potential of its resources.. Human, technological, raw materials.. Through the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling to be able to attain the company’s goals... company.. Extract the skills
