Expanded Learning Opportunities are reshaping when, where, and how student learning occurs. A well-designed and well-implemented ELO program can complement in-school learning and support academic growth by combining various ways for students to engage in learning. How do organizations, including schools, districts, and partners, build “expanded learning ecologies” for youth that support connected learning? The goal of this panel is to inform participants about building expanded learning ecologies to scale and across boundaries showcasing successes and challenges by presenting recent examples from Chicago, New York, and Providence, RI. To address the topic of scale, we will share examples of efforts that aim to reach many youth across many programs, beyond a single intervention or setting. To illustrate crossed boundaries, we will explain efforts to connect various nodes in a youths’ learning ecology (e.g., in-school, out-of-school, individual passion, etc.).
Chicago: The first Chicago Summer of Learning was a citywide mayoral initiative designed to expand learning opportunities for youth during the summer of 2013. More than 100 organizations took part in this effort to recognize learning in out-of-school spaces through digital badges. More than 200,000 youth participated in CSOL programs, and more than 100,000 badges were earned by youth of all ages. Chicago took a first, critical step in enacting core principles of connected learning and laying the foundation for a vibrant ecosystem of learning opportunities. As ELOs begin to signify experiences that link to content- and career-specific pathways, we expect to see even greater potential to transform youths’ lives.
New York: The NYC Department of Education’s Digital Ready program is designed to help participating NYC public high schools use technology and student-centered learning to improve their students’ readiness for college and careers. With Digital Ready’s explicit focus on student-centered learning, expanded learning opportunities play an important role in preparing students to explore, engage, and practice their interests. The Digital Ready and Hive Learning Network teams have worked to coordinate a collaborative effort between 10 innovative high schools and 13 groundbreaking Hive NYC organizations to provide students with a range of opportunities that blend in-school and out-of-school learning with experiences that are production-centered and creativity-focused.
Providence: Since its creation in 2004, the Providence After School Alliance has built two citywide expanded learning models in collaboration with the City of Providence, the Providence Public Schools and the local community: the AfterZone for middle school, and The Hub for high school. These models offer Providence youth a coordinated schedule of in-school, after-school summer learning programs for high school credit.

This presentation reports the findings of an interview-based study of the challenges of managing an international branch campus. It discusses the way that, during the start-up phase, managers have to juggle multiple roles until critical mass is achieved. In most cases, the organisational structure exposes them to the difficulties of running a joint-venture, balancing the demands of the home campus and the local partner. In every case, they have to negotiate the conflicting legislative environments of their home and host countries, often working across language and cultural divides. The presentation offers new insights into the brave new world of managing an international branch campus.

ABSTRACT
Based on an HEA funded pilot study, this presentation focuses on engaging Law Students in the development and preparation of their own Personal Development Plans. The project considers how students see their learning and development needs and the current barriers to developing PDPs. The focus on PDP emphasises its importance as the foundation for integrating into current legal education an understanding of legal professionalism. By enabling students to take responsibility and to actively develop their PDP it is argued that students will come to embody wider values of legal professionalism, notably the promotion of justice.

ABSTRACT
Based on an HEA funded pilot study, this presentation focuses on engaging Law Students in the development and preparation of their own Personal Development Plans. The project considers how students see their learning and development needs and the current barriers to developing PDPs. The focus on PDP emphasises its importance as the foundation for integrating into current legal education an understanding of legal professionalism. By enabling students to take responsibility and to actively develop their PDP it is argued that students will come to embody wider values of legal professionalism, notably the promotion of justice.

The Distinct project aimed to help universities identify and communicate what makes them distinctive. It was a collaboration between Brookes, Bournemouth, and Bradford universities funded by HEFCE from 2009-2012. Abertay University
An interactive workshop that will introduce attendees to the Abertay University roadmap for creating a curriculum that embeds equality, diversity and inclusion. This process requires a culture change in many organisations (e.g. HE) to ensure that the curriculum in teaching, practice and support is inherently anti-racist. Participants will discuss, using case studies especially Abertay’s project, factors that facilitate and block culture change. The aim of the workshop is to help participants develop their culture change plans for their institutions by learning from Abertay and each other. By examining the roadmap presented by Abertay, we will learn about the pace of change and tangible steps that are needed in motivating that cultural change. The workshop will explore how policy, procedures, training (cultural sensitivity, curriculum development etc), dialogue between divisions and among academic and support services are vital in motivating long-lasting cultural change beyond the tick box that turns people away from such initiatives. The workshop will also examine the best practice in engaging with stakeholders and therefore building buy-in from staff and student complements, current and alumni as well. The roadmap is focused on creating an accessible place of belonging for all staff and students. Therefore, the interactive workshop will explore some of what Abertay has done in the past few years to create that place of belonging for all regardless of background and discuss how those areas of good practice are being leveraged to influence wider practice in the institution. We will explore the power co-creation in supporting that culture that approaches anti-racism from an intersectional lens to ensure that all feel welcomed and supported equally within the university.

L'objectif de l'ICPP est d'identifier les domaines d'amélioration qui peuvent en fin de compte bénéficier à toutes les parties concernées, des compagnies maritimes aux gouvernements nationaux en passant par les consommateurs. Il est conçu pour servir de point de référence aux principaux acteurs de l'économie mondiale, notamment les autorités et les opérateurs portuaires, les gouvernements nationaux, les organisations supranationales, les agences de développement, les divers intérêts maritimes et d'autres acteurs publics et privés du commerce, de la logistique et des services de la chaîne d'approvisionnement.
Le développement de l'ICPP repose sur le temps total passé par les porte-conteneurs dans les ports, de la manière expliquée dans les sections suivantes du rapport, et comme dans les itérations précédentes de l'ICPP. Cette quatrième itération utilise des données pour l'année civile complète 2023. Elle poursuit le changement introduit l'année dernière en n'incluant que les ports qui ont eu un minimum de 24 escales valides au cours de la période de 12 mois de l'étude. Le nombre de ports inclus dans l'ICPP 2023 est de 405.
Comme dans les éditions précédentes de l'ICPP, la production du classement fait appel à deux approches méthodologiques différentes : une approche administrative, ou technique, une méthodologie pragmatique reflétant les connaissances et le jugement des experts ; et une approche statistique, utilisant l'analyse factorielle (AF), ou plus précisément la factorisation matricielle. L'utilisation de ces deux approches vise à garantir que le classement des performances des ports à conteneurs reflète le plus fidèlement possible les performances réelles des ports, tout en étant statistiquement robuste.
