DEDICATION
This bouquet of my writings is dedicated to some really
special beings who dwell around us. This is to the ones who
gave up and the ones who did not, to all the fighters, to all
of you, you made it here.
This is to you and me and all of us. Here is my form of
appreciation to the strength that you possess. Each one of
us, should be proud and at peace with our individual win.
No one but only we, ourselves will know how hard it was to
get there, only our inner soul can understand the value of
our efforts. Ink every battle you encounter onto your
existence, so that you will be remembered.
Here is to the forgotten and the remembered, the jaded
and the unseen, to the outcasts, the outsiders, the strugglers,
the winners who lost, the losers who won, the known and
the unknown, to every mosaic heart that did not fade, this
one is for every survivor out there.
human-o-logy
I believe,
One fine day the world won’t dwell this way,
It won’t live this droning life of ordinary,
The world will awaken itself to an era,
Where we won’t run behind possessions,
What we feel, want, need will be consented,
What we know of would be assented.
The world will know that happiness lies within
itself.
The world will rise against odds,
Acceptance would prevail,
You and I would roam around with pride,
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
iv
Break down the walls built,
The world will explore with us, jocund company.
One fine day, I promise my heart,
That all of us would stop breaking.
For when the end waves you towards it,
Our destiny opens its doors to us,
The hearts stop beating,
And palpitations we forsake today,
They lie in hopes and beliefs –
Not in realities.
So we will rise and fall,
Escape these cobwebs,
Induce colors inside,
Dream away our passion,
Rain over the world,
As humane humans.

All my gratitude to my never ending support systems, my

FOREWORD
This is Surabhi Kulkarni’s third poetry book as a writer,
after the first bouquet “Mosaic Hearts Never Fade”, and
second “Do They Feel?” The first one covered the
emotions of the early aged teenager and how the stability of
these hearts keep them going on and on – never to dither
or fade. While the second one dealt with the deeper feelings
and emotions of a teenager towards “them” – asking a
question “Do they really, feel?”
This book is a logical sequel for these previous two books,
in which the main bridge between the individual and the
world is getting highlighted – the thoughts – the main
connect between how one is and how one perceives – how
the experiences differ when taken in different context of
thoughts – thoughts are the main building element of all the
relationships existing around us. Those alluring thoughts –
which heighten the experiences – are the ones which are
getting leveraged in this book in the form of various poems.
In the dedication section itself, Surabhi sets the context of
the book with the poem with the name “human-o-
logy” – Surabhi’s own word – how to carve a constructive
association for an individual with the rest of the world –
how the world is likely to have “no sense of what your
perspective is” and “how you might think that it’s pulling
you apart” – the ending with a very positive note of one
should chase their dreams and how it’s ‘irrelevant” to you
on what “they think or do” – more that “what you aim and
what you do” … Setting a very forward looking and bright
context to this book.
This book brings out deep feelings, expectations,
associations, and experiences of an individual, at times a
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
2
group of individuals, at times some imaginary entities with
the rest of the world. The feelings at times show brightness,
darkness, discoloration and ambiguity – leaving the
meanings to be taken to the audience of the poem.
Surabhi has chosen the name of the book very aptly – it’s
about the connect she wants to bring between the world and
her, the audience and the poet, the rest of “them” and the
core of “her” – it’s a reciprocation and give-and-take and a
dialog and a meaningful exchange, a power game at times,
that she portrays in various poems.
The dictionary meaning of the word “Eunoia”, is "well
mind" or "beautiful thinking.” It is the goodwill a speaker
cultivates between one and one’s audience, a condition of
receptivity. It comes from the Greek word εὔνοια. It is the
shortest English word containing all five main vowel
graphemes.
Surabhi’s lookout to this word, again is a different
perspective. She considers every thought process and way
of thinking to be a mystery, something that can never be
revealed until expressed only in its true form. This feeling
of unawareness of what goes through the minds of people
tempts her to explore it – its beauty is alluring. Thus,
“Eunoia” for Surabhi is an insight of “an alluring
thoughtfulness” which all beings endure deep within
themselves, in variations and varieties.
This forms the connection between the preamble of her
earlier book.
The first section on QUOTED ZINGERS brings about
certain quotes Surabhi has come up with outlining some or
the other aspect giving deeper meaning as a reflection of the
reality. A message for the readers to keep thinking about the
thought and hence ponder about how it fits their own
context. Some of them are really intriguing.
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
3
The SNIPPET SPREAD – a section on chains of thoughts
– intermingled - discrete – but flowing. These are mostly
independent of each other, but carry a meaning and hence
the message of some harsh realities of the real world that
Surabhi highlights. The first one “Like a lovers touch” –
talks about her beautiful relationship with the nature and
how it reflects. How she wants to promise the nature that
this encounter should happen again, just like a lover’s touch.
These are some unstructured thoughts – need not be called
as poems, may be without any rhythm or rhyme – but a
humming within that reflects some deep feelings which will
definitely leave a buzz in the readers mind.
The HEAR MY VERSES – a section dedicated to Surabhi’s
pearls of poems. It reflects on various experiences that
Surabhi wants to share with the readers – The “I can feel” -
reflects on the routine that one needs to go through in the
rut of this world and how one has to look up for the
unknown future getting unfolded for him – to keep hopes
and wait for one’s moment to come.
Each of the poem comes with a specific context, which is
in the poet’s mind – but that’s the beauty of poetry that the
reader could take the meaning to one’s own context and that
would completely create a different aspect that makes this
poetry more matured and apt to all.
As I reflect back on Surabhi’s poetry, it has matured over
the period of time and her age – she brings in some
perspectives, which are absolutely “not relevant” to her
tender age of 17 years – she appears to be ahead of time by
about 15 years and is a confident and bold little girl to bring
those out and share it openly with the world.

Honestly, I have really tried hard to give justice to the work
done by my daughter and am really feeling proud to be
“called as her father”. I am really humbled to be writing this
section for her third book – I am really honored. My regards
and blessings are due to her - To her creativity, to her ability
to perceive, to relate, to build different perspectives and to
her pains to be getting into the experiences that she is able
to portray back to the readers, to her hard-work to be
persistent at pursuing her dream creatively.
God bless you Surabhi and your creations!

1)
I can see another human grab another heart,
Fall in love,
And break his own.
2)
You really loved me, so you placed a bouquet of flowers in
my hand and a diamond ring in her finger.
3)
Black roses on the grave,
dead corpses that I crave,
ghosts of yesterday still naïve,
withered memories on my name.
4)
The double sided sweet lie in you, will never corrode the
one sided bitter truth inside me.
5)
And he used to come running to me, humming to the
same chaos in my head, dancing to the same sounds of the
waves, smiling like a devil in a child and scarring the same
skin of mine every time I dreamt of his tiny little figurine.
6)
I want to get wet in the fire.
7)
She stood still against the darkest enigmatic light beams,
They tried to pierce reality into her swollen eyes,
But she lived in her own livid dreams of past,
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
7
Falling prey to all his charismatically attractive lies.
8)
For all the love they ever had for each other, rests in the
dreams they’ve dreamt together.
9)
Can I be poised?
poised enough to stay for long?
all along through the days you live?
live this life full of void?
the void that surges us to fall apart.
10)
Now nestle every single emotion of mine which you drank
away like a vulgar con man.
11)
She had the eyes of the bewitching new moon,
And they knew the only time they would glisten away,
Was when the moon eclipsed into the sky.

1. Like a lover's touch
Like a lover's touch, the leaves caressed my body. The soft
winds blew all the feelings plunged inside of me. My body
swayed with the sounds of the birds, I knew not of this
emotion, so surprising yet beautiful. Apocalypses waited for
the lands, but that one moment felt like eternity. Never
ending urges of beauty as the mountains held me tight.
Their shadows hung on to me as the sunlight crept out at
times. I strode towards the summit, the one I thought I
would never reach. My body burned with the pain and sweat
but somehow it didn't matter. They had told me I wasn't
able, that my body could not win this one. But I climbed the
ridges, the cliffs, the edges just to prove them wrong.
Climbing, walking, jumping, trekking and hoping to survive
through all of that. As I reached the last path, the one so
steep, so dangerous yet challenging. Those challenges and
rigorous heavy footsteps, I saw the ones I ascended. I saw
the place I had started this journey from, and alas my body
nourished that feeling. That feeling grew flowers inside my
soul and last step, ah I was there. I reached the summit, yes
I did. I reached the top, I was finally on top of the world.
Happiness of this kind, this naïve feeling.
I achieved something, I proved them wrong. Life had taught
me not to give up, but this journey so lovely taught me how
to believe. Believe in my own soul, my heart and my dreams.
I looked down at the waters flowing so silently, to the cliffs
I had climbed and to the paths I had jolted. Suddenly this
euphoria spread around my immense fears, I feared not of
the heights I was confident enough to slay down the battle.
With a desire so mesmerizing I got up, ready to get back to

the start, I looked down at the beginning and I believed in
thy power. My heart was ready to descend down, to tell
them about this impossibly possible dream that came true.

2. THE 30 SECONDS AND THE
WITHERED ROSES
He said he doesn't love me. That the love had started fading.
That all those galaxies he used to see in my eyes had
vanished, all of a sudden. He looked me in the eye and said
that the things we had, had changed and that the times had
changed all that was there between us. “Change is inevitable,
isn’t it?” He tried to wipe that tear that rolled down my
cheek now bruised with the truth that gobbled my dreams
and I shirked his hand away which once had held me tight
all through my highs and lows. I turned my back at him and
sobbed my heart out. Those 30 seconds of that moment felt
like eternity. All the walls of memories came running down
on me crashing on my castle of future and burning my love
for him. The walls buried the soul that once cherished living
freely. How could he? I thought to myself in those 30
seconds of gloom. He was still there. I could still feel him
watching my back waiting for me to turn around and wave
goodbye for the last time. He waited. And I gasped as I
looked down the memory lane of the mesmerizing
moments I had had with the love of my life, who I thought
he was. During those 30 lonely seconds the blues of my
heart swept away the frantic fears inside me and those 30
seconds trickled down till the fear captured the innocent
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
11
heart I once had, before meeting him. The wolves of my
past ate my soul chewing on the kindness I thought I would
have forever. The wolves of past had eyes of sorrow that
melted on the future that I had started imagining without
the one in a million person of my life. And he was still
waiting. Like a blooming flower waiting for a bee to set it's
honey free all at once. He waited. After those 30 seconds
of gloom with the invisible broken heart in my hand I
turned around with my head lower than it had been and
gazed at my hands. The broken heart was nowhere to be
seen. But he hugged my fragile body and smiled at me for
the last time and told me to take care as he left, on his way
all he said was goodbye. And I stood there watching him
walk away and then I glanced at my cold bare hands again,
and now in my hands was my broken heart. He had broken
my heart. In the other one I had the withered roses he had
given me, the first time I came to know what love is, yes for
the very first lovely time.

SECTION III : HEAR MY VERSES
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
13
1) I can feel
I can feel the parade of your wild past march over you
No one to go to, I know that you have no clue
You were left behind over here, weren’t you?
You were stranded alone, isn’t that true?
But don’t you know your presence is still lively?
Don’t you know alone doesn’t mean lonely?
Oh shirk away your hand, stop the plea.
They are all gone, the doors are closed, don’t you see?
The world’s blind, no one’s out there.
They judge, they mar, they thoroughly ruin,
They hate, they burn and then they stare.
Try to look all around you, will you?
Hold this moment and feel tomorrow’s breeze.
There is a never ending way to walk along,
Look ahead, wake up my child,
Get ready for the future parade.
2) Greed
We have it all
But we don’t have enough of it all
So we have the most of it all
And make sure no one else has
More than what we have from it all
And then we are wolves
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
14
Running behind it all
We fight, we kill, we mock, we bury
To have the rest of it all
And we keep on dying
And keep on destroying
Just to take it all
None of us knows the need
For all of us to stay, to let live
We don’t understand
That without us
There is nothing of all of it, at all.
3) Stop
stop.
look at it.
the raindrop.
the drop that just fell.
it fell and it fell over you.
it touched you.
it chose you.
it wanted you.
it had a reason.
it rested upon you.
feel it.
the joy inside it.
the happiness to be touched.
it blessed you.
it can heal.
heal you and your soul.
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
15
let it clear your mess.
smile at it.
every drop counts.
now you can feel a million.
a million little emotions.
every time it falls.
falls over you.
rains over you.
4) loss
She sat by the court
Thinking of it all
The way she'd just lost
A precious fight of life
She looked at them leaving
It felt like it meant nothing to them
The fight they'd just won
They weren't worth it
Looking back at all those days
The petrified hours
Of scrubbing the ball down the aisle
Running her body through it all
She'd thought the efforts were enough
But she sulked her head down now
Trying to convince herself of the reality
She was so close to what she'd wanted
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
16
Yet again like always
It slipped out of her hands
Doubtful eyes stared at the court
It felt it had betrayed her inner soul
A tough fight, the one to always remember
She smiled at the court with a glare of belief
This wasn't the end, she nodded
The win wasn't far away
Loss was just a burden to carry
She got up and strolled to leave the court
Whispering to it for once
The vision's bright and the heart's filled with that light.
5) Let me show you why
Let me show you why,
Just give me your hands.
I'll tell you why they cry,
Through their nightstands.
Attachments of folly,
Considered as silly.
Laugh them off fellas,
They're meant to be jokes.
But
Emotions and feelings,
A cobweb of meanings.
Touch each other's souls,
Mend their empty holes.
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
17
Pour their beautiful hearts,
Play them like cards.
Shattered into pieces,
One night suddenly seizes.
Heartbreaks down the allies,
Love never tallies.
True love said he,
Just a fling said she.
Let me show you why,
Just give me your hands.
I'll tell you about their cocoons of cove,
When their nightstands.

REVIEWS
1. Review by Dr Sujala Watve
This is Surabhi’s third poetry contribution I am reading – named
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”.
A wonderful but devastating experience!
I have to always prepare myself to take out a very silent time to
read her poems. They attract you like a moth to light. They are
difficult to understand as they lead you to a different world and
still you can’t leave the real world. It makes you feel the sweet pain
of the strains that she is bring about …
I as a psychologist have always felt ‘Emotional Over excitability’
coined by Kazimierz Dabrowski, the Polish psychologist and
psychiatrist, in these poems. Dabrowski states that Gifted
Children (high ability and passionate individuals) feel the
emotional turmoil at certain point of life towards their journey of
life from ‘primary integration’ to ‘secondary disintegration’.
This is due to super sensitivity, arising out of their giftedness, to
the surrounding. I see this feeling in her while reading ‘Do They
Feel?’ as well as in the third book “Eunoia– The alluring
thoughtfulness”.
She leads you through diverse intense feelings at varied moments. It
is not only understanding but it takes you to experience every
emotion through inside. It might be tormenting but giving birth to
a very innovative product each time. I wonder how she could bear
all these stresses and still carry on her academic pursuit.

2. Review by Mrs Sandhya Welankar
"I have known Surabhi for the last few years and seen her grow
into a beautiful young lady with a very intense and sensitive
persona.
Her poetry reveals her passion for life, and at such a young age she
is indeed blessed to have been endowed with excellent command of
the English language which finds expression through her
imagination and firm opinion about different aspects of life like
dark emotions, romance, adoration/devotions, etc. in her poems.
Her sharp intelligence and passion for poetry is really
commendable. She has skillfully shown compassionate feelings of
love, depression, deprivation, disappointment as though she has
herself experienced them, and I think readers can easily relate to
the various situations which they might perhaps have undergone
themselves
From her book “Do They Feel?” Different shades of emotion
are vividly portrayed in the poem 'Family' which shows how
attached she is to her near ones, while 'Windows' explains
beautifully how loneliness could be dealt with, and 'Love' is full of
comforting and gentle or caressing thoughts. The third book
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” is round the

corner to get published and I am eagerly waiting for the same …
Above all, she is a naturally gifted person, and may God bless her
with success in her future poetic endeavors."

The meaning of the name Surabhi is “Fragrance”. The poems
written by Surabhi spread their fragrance everywhere. Each of her
poems begins with delight and ends with wisdom.

faster than Light”. © Dr. Prasad Rajhans.

It is very difficult to understand our mind and also more difficult
to conquer it.
Surabhi has managed to explore various emotions of a mind very
deeply and found the right words for her thoughts.
“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and thought has
found words.” - Robert Frost.
Each of her poems deals with different emotions of the mind. I am
really amazed that she writes these beautiful poems spontaneously
without any editing or corrections. It is a beautiful flow of thoughts
and words which is a unique virtue of any great poet.
It is always a challenge for a poet like her if she is being admired
without being understood. I hope all of you will understand the
deep meaning of her poems which is far beyond her age and
experience.
I have become your fan “Surabhi”. Keep writing, Keep exploring !

Dear Surabhi – I read you poems. The joy of “writing” is
completely different – please continue enjoying that heavenly treat.
Along with, I would recommend, you should keep continuing with
reading, understanding, studying and internalizing other forms

and formats poetry by other creators.
The enjoyment in the creation of a new poem or text is definitely
larger than the materialistic success and popularity. It might take
the whole of the life to get your own inner tone for “your own
poetry”!!! But the journey must continue.
Look at the poetry in this context. Finding your own “perfect
note” is a huge achievement – I wish you good luck to be able to
get the same. I wish you to have higher and higher level of writing
and creation along the life.
All the best.

Surabhi’s book of poems “Eunoia– The alluring
thoughtfulness” is a beautifully crafted piece of work. The
passion and intensity of emotions that she feels, as she writes,
grows on reader too!
The progression of the poems from questions and confusion, to
solutions and hope; point towards a young person’s journey and
existential issues.
The section “Morals” is particularly depicting her break-through
from the shackles of confusion, pain and despair; which is typically
an adolescent crisis.

I met Surabhi Kulkarni in our P Jog college as my own student
about one year back. I remembered her from even the first
interaction with her. The very first day of the college, I conducted
an ice breaker game to get the students talking about themselves.
Surabhi could present the perception about herself very effectively.
It’s a very good feeling to have a very capable and able students
like Surabhi for a teacher within me. She kept giving me
happiness many times during my lectures during the whole year.
While discussing about the concepts taught in the class, her
additional knowledge about and around the subjects was evident –
it was definitely reflecting her additional reading efforts that she
puts in.
Surabhi is always engaged into some or the other initiatives in
addition to studies like Poetry, Book Reading or movies – so
much so that she not able to attend the college activities regularly
actually does not matter at all – to both us as teachers and her as
a student – she is always up-to-date.
I just love her focused approach to keep learning the new concepts
till she understands and masters it completely. That reflects her

innocence and her brilliance at the same time.
As a teacher, I would like to see Surabhi further refine her
qualities in bettering her handwriting and her ability to responding
stably and gracefully to the situations around. I want her to
become stronger mentally as well physically. These are my true
feelings about her personality in all truthful sense.
Here I am giving her all of my best wishes to her new book -
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”.
Let me wish her all the success on her personal, professional and
literary front. All the best Surabhi.

KUDOS to you Surabhi for your third book ..
Your anthology of poems, “Eunoia– The alluring

delectable experience reading the poems, leaving me with a
numbness and yet rocketing me with myriad feeling and emotions
that have touched the deepest part of my soul.
I have known you as a child, full of curiosity and concern for
classmates, and with your age it has found an expression through
your poems. It is a moment of great to see you grow in leaps and

9. Review by Mrs Sumedha Kulkarni
It’s really a proud moment for me while I am writing my views
about Surabhi’s poetry – especially on the occasion when she is
publishing her third book on poetry… Yes, I am really feeling so
great to be Surabhi’s mother”.
Surabhi, from her childhood has been expressing her thoughts, in
various forms – may it be stage drama performances, social
gatherings or during any one-on-one discussions. Her ability to
expressing the thoughts so well in poems is definitely a god gift and
an extraordinary asset she possesses.
I am seeing her poetry shaping up in a multi-dimension manner
and now able to cover different and diverse emotions of human
being at varied stages of life. During this process she has broaden
the horizon of her thoughts and reach to the actual lives of many –
which is reflected in her third poetry book “Eunoia– The
alluring thoughtfulness”.
We as parents feel great supporting her in the journey of poetry –
She is very bright student and am sure she will pursue her passion

10. Review by Smt Vinaya Kulkarni
Hearty congratulations Surabhi’tai for your third book of Poetry
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” being
published. I would like to Thanks Surabhi’tai for giving me this
opportunity to write about you and your poetry – it makes me
really proud to be your grandmother!!!
My special thanks to your school teachers for their guidance and
special efforts during school days. The role of parents plays
crucially in this respect. I know they have proved to be successful
parents of her.
Surabhi’tai has shown ascending graph in this area of poetry
writing. She is capable to master beauty of English language and
shows skills in using various shades of English words. She proves
A poem must be a powerful flow of spontaneous feelings.
I express my love and affection for my unique family members like
Surabhi’tai – she makes me really proud.
Surabhi’tai is my granddaughter, daughter of my son Shirish and
his wife Sumedha. Congratulations to both of them who played
major role in shaping up Surabhi and for the efforts put together
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni

for publishing this book.

11. Review by Mrs Manjiri Tatwawadi
Getting your hands on any new book and an emerging poet is a
journey into an oblivion. It was an immense pleasure and great
satisfaction to have got this wonderful gift to read through
Surabhi's 'Mosaic Hearts Never Fade', 'Do They Feel' and
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”. I'm left
spellbound with her vigor, passion, perfection to express so candidly
almost every thought that strikes her mind!
Having read through her second Bouquet, I am truly mesmerized,
a tiny soul that had just sprouted only a couple of years ago has
already presented the world with her beautifully woven pearls of
wisdom and unequivocal emotions! Her words have an in-depth
power to bring unsung emotions, non-existent characters live.
“Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” is a sublime
representation of teenage thoughts in the most apt form!
I'm sure every individual who flicks through her poems would be
taken down his/her teenage memory lane. That's an age when
several thoughts are boggling one's mind, hovering over every now
and then which at times one finds difficult to streamline or
interpret. But must say at such a nascent age Surabhi has so
vividly expressed her experiences, intense emotions and wider
imaginations. I like her way of adding that silver lining of hope to
any intense expression/ emotion. Surabhi is so honest in saying
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
28
that she breaths poetry! One actually feels it and gets that tingling
sensation whilst reading through her creations!!!
I am so looking forward to what's next on the platter! Wonder
how a poet never runs short of words in offering profound thoughts
to the world! Life is all about retrospection...Would love to hear
more from Surabhi about "thoughts Behind her every single
poem".
It's indeed hard to fathom the mind-set or the amount of efforts
that go behind every single write-up. We wish this poetry reaches a
wider audience and wish her the best in her journey ahead of
distinct and delightful creations! May you continue to write for ever
and emerge with poems with purposeful aura!!

12. Review by Master Aditya Tatwawadi
Surabhi’s books “Do They Feel?” and “Eunoia– The
alluring thoughtfulness” have subsumed the zenith of the
key themes being a teenager. With a pensive and
dreamy style, Surabhi has elegantly woven the ups and downs of
this stage in life and as a result, has produced several masterpieces
in “Do They Feel?” with “Evil”, “Impossible” and “Let go the
day” leaving a sensational mark in one’s books.
In today’s day and age where society is dominated by control, it is
extraordinary that Surabhi is willing to be defined by poetry and
her words and explore the creativity of our beautiful world and
life’s highs and lows. Such courage and determination is lacking in
“eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni
29
today’s world and thus she deserves a round of applause.
Surabhi is now entering a mature stage in her literature career and
with two excellent bouquets already published, she should be
looking to up her game with further development and word order
syntax. For sure, Surabhi is just a tip-toe away – or even at par
– with some of the greatest poets today.
Hats off and cheers to her third composition! – “Eunoia– The
alluring thoughtfulness” This really has been her Magnus
opus and I’m looking to read more in the near future!”
Best of luck!

PREAMBLE
it's in the nature's cove I'll find solace
it's in the silence it treasures that I'll shed my worries
it's in harmony of its insights that I feel at home
it's the spot where I chose who I wanted to become
I wanted to wander, to express, to create
It’s where I realized I would be an able poet.

PREVIEW : Eunoia - The Alluring Thoughtfulness by Surabhi Kulkarni

  • 3. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni DEDICATION This bouquet of my writings is dedicated to some really special beings who dwell around us. This is to the ones who gave up and the ones who did not, to all the fighters, to all of you, you made it here. This is to you and me and all of us. Here is my form of appreciation to the strength that you possess. Each one of us, should be proud and at peace with our individual win. No one but only we, ourselves will know how hard it was to get there, only our inner soul can understand the value of our efforts. Ink every battle you encounter onto your existence, so that you will be remembered. Here is to the forgotten and the remembered, the jaded and the unseen, to the outcasts, the outsiders, the strugglers, the winners who lost, the losers who won, the known and the unknown, to every mosaic heart that did not fade, this one is for every survivor out there. human-o-logy I believe, One fine day the world won’t dwell this way, It won’t live this droning life of ordinary, The world will awaken itself to an era, Where we won’t run behind possessions, What we feel, want, need will be consented, What we know of would be assented. The world will know that happiness lies within itself. The world will rise against odds, Acceptance would prevail, You and I would roam around with pride,
  • 4. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni iv Break down the walls built, The world will explore with us, jocund company. One fine day, I promise my heart, That all of us would stop breaking. For when the end waves you towards it, Our destiny opens its doors to us, The hearts stop beating, And palpitations we forsake today, They lie in hopes and beliefs – Not in realities. So we will rise and fall, Escape these cobwebs, Induce colors inside, Dream away our passion, Rain over the world, As humane humans. - Surabhi Kulkarni

  • 8. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the people in my life who have showered upon me, their love and blessings during every stage of this journey. All my gratitude to my never ending support systems, my father and my mother. Without your constant encouragement and guidance, I wouldn’t have reached here. I wish to thank every member of my family for reinforcing my potential and standing by my side. Thank you all, I am blessed to be a part of your story. - Surabhi Kulkarni
  • 9. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 1 FOREWORD This is Surabhi Kulkarni’s third poetry book as a writer, after the first bouquet “Mosaic Hearts Never Fade”, and second “Do They Feel?” The first one covered the emotions of the early aged teenager and how the stability of these hearts keep them going on and on – never to dither or fade. While the second one dealt with the deeper feelings and emotions of a teenager towards “them” – asking a question “Do they really, feel?” This book is a logical sequel for these previous two books, in which the main bridge between the individual and the world is getting highlighted – the thoughts – the main connect between how one is and how one perceives – how the experiences differ when taken in different context of thoughts – thoughts are the main building element of all the relationships existing around us. Those alluring thoughts – which heighten the experiences – are the ones which are getting leveraged in this book in the form of various poems. In the dedication section itself, Surabhi sets the context of the book with the poem with the name “human-o- logy” – Surabhi’s own word – how to carve a constructive association for an individual with the rest of the world – how the world is likely to have “no sense of what your perspective is” and “how you might think that it’s pulling you apart” – the ending with a very positive note of one should chase their dreams and how it’s ‘irrelevant” to you on what “they think or do” – more that “what you aim and what you do” … Setting a very forward looking and bright context to this book. This book brings out deep feelings, expectations, associations, and experiences of an individual, at times a
  • 10. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 2 group of individuals, at times some imaginary entities with the rest of the world. The feelings at times show brightness, darkness, discoloration and ambiguity – leaving the meanings to be taken to the audience of the poem. Surabhi has chosen the name of the book very aptly – it’s about the connect she wants to bring between the world and her, the audience and the poet, the rest of “them” and the core of “her” – it’s a reciprocation and give-and-take and a dialog and a meaningful exchange, a power game at times, that she portrays in various poems. The dictionary meaning of the word “Eunoia”, is "well mind" or "beautiful thinking.” It is the goodwill a speaker cultivates between one and one’s audience, a condition of receptivity. It comes from the Greek word εὔνοια. It is the shortest English word containing all five main vowel graphemes. Surabhi’s lookout to this word, again is a different perspective. She considers every thought process and way of thinking to be a mystery, something that can never be revealed until expressed only in its true form. This feeling of unawareness of what goes through the minds of people tempts her to explore it – its beauty is alluring. Thus, “Eunoia” for Surabhi is an insight of “an alluring thoughtfulness” which all beings endure deep within themselves, in variations and varieties. This forms the connection between the preamble of her earlier book. The first section on QUOTED ZINGERS brings about certain quotes Surabhi has come up with outlining some or the other aspect giving deeper meaning as a reflection of the reality. A message for the readers to keep thinking about the thought and hence ponder about how it fits their own context. Some of them are really intriguing.
  • 11. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 3 The SNIPPET SPREAD – a section on chains of thoughts – intermingled - discrete – but flowing. These are mostly independent of each other, but carry a meaning and hence the message of some harsh realities of the real world that Surabhi highlights. The first one “Like a lovers touch” – talks about her beautiful relationship with the nature and how it reflects. How she wants to promise the nature that this encounter should happen again, just like a lover’s touch. These are some unstructured thoughts – need not be called as poems, may be without any rhythm or rhyme – but a humming within that reflects some deep feelings which will definitely leave a buzz in the readers mind. The HEAR MY VERSES – a section dedicated to Surabhi’s pearls of poems. It reflects on various experiences that Surabhi wants to share with the readers – The “I can feel” - reflects on the routine that one needs to go through in the rut of this world and how one has to look up for the unknown future getting unfolded for him – to keep hopes and wait for one’s moment to come. Each of the poem comes with a specific context, which is in the poet’s mind – but that’s the beauty of poetry that the reader could take the meaning to one’s own context and that would completely create a different aspect that makes this poetry more matured and apt to all. As I reflect back on Surabhi’s poetry, it has matured over the period of time and her age – she brings in some perspectives, which are absolutely “not relevant” to her tender age of 17 years – she appears to be ahead of time by about 15 years and is a confident and bold little girl to bring those out and share it openly with the world.
  • 12. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 4 Honestly, I have really tried hard to give justice to the work done by my daughter and am really feeling proud to be “called as her father”. I am really humbled to be writing this section for her third book – I am really honored. My regards and blessings are due to her - To her creativity, to her ability to perceive, to relate, to build different perspectives and to her pains to be getting into the experiences that she is able to portray back to the readers, to her hard-work to be persistent at pursuing her dream creatively. God bless you Surabhi and your creations! - Shirish Kulkarni Father of Surabhi Kulkarni E-mail : shirish_kul@yahoo.com

  • 17. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 9 1. Like a lover's touch Like a lover's touch, the leaves caressed my body. The soft winds blew all the feelings plunged inside of me. My body swayed with the sounds of the birds, I knew not of this emotion, so surprising yet beautiful. Apocalypses waited for the lands, but that one moment felt like eternity. Never ending urges of beauty as the mountains held me tight. Their shadows hung on to me as the sunlight crept out at times. I strode towards the summit, the one I thought I would never reach. My body burned with the pain and sweat but somehow it didn't matter. They had told me I wasn't able, that my body could not win this one. But I climbed the ridges, the cliffs, the edges just to prove them wrong. Climbing, walking, jumping, trekking and hoping to survive through all of that. As I reached the last path, the one so steep, so dangerous yet challenging. Those challenges and rigorous heavy footsteps, I saw the ones I ascended. I saw the place I had started this journey from, and alas my body nourished that feeling. That feeling grew flowers inside my soul and last step, ah I was there. I reached the summit, yes I did. I reached the top, I was finally on top of the world. Happiness of this kind, this naïve feeling. I achieved something, I proved them wrong. Life had taught me not to give up, but this journey so lovely taught me how to believe. Believe in my own soul, my heart and my dreams. I looked down at the waters flowing so silently, to the cliffs I had climbed and to the paths I had jolted. Suddenly this euphoria spread around my immense fears, I feared not of the heights I was confident enough to slay down the battle. With a desire so mesmerizing I got up, ready to get back to
  • 18. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 10 the start, I looked down at the beginning and I believed in thy power. My heart was ready to descend down, to tell them about this impossibly possible dream that came true. 26/12/2016 @Taramati Peak (highest one in Harishchandragadh) 2. THE 30 SECONDS AND THE WITHERED ROSES He said he doesn't love me. That the love had started fading. That all those galaxies he used to see in my eyes had vanished, all of a sudden. He looked me in the eye and said that the things we had, had changed and that the times had changed all that was there between us. “Change is inevitable, isn’t it?” He tried to wipe that tear that rolled down my cheek now bruised with the truth that gobbled my dreams and I shirked his hand away which once had held me tight all through my highs and lows. I turned my back at him and sobbed my heart out. Those 30 seconds of that moment felt like eternity. All the walls of memories came running down on me crashing on my castle of future and burning my love for him. The walls buried the soul that once cherished living freely. How could he? I thought to myself in those 30 seconds of gloom. He was still there. I could still feel him watching my back waiting for me to turn around and wave goodbye for the last time. He waited. And I gasped as I looked down the memory lane of the mesmerizing moments I had had with the love of my life, who I thought he was. During those 30 lonely seconds the blues of my heart swept away the frantic fears inside me and those 30 seconds trickled down till the fear captured the innocent
  • 19. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 11 heart I once had, before meeting him. The wolves of my past ate my soul chewing on the kindness I thought I would have forever. The wolves of past had eyes of sorrow that melted on the future that I had started imagining without the one in a million person of my life. And he was still waiting. Like a blooming flower waiting for a bee to set it's honey free all at once. He waited. After those 30 seconds of gloom with the invisible broken heart in my hand I turned around with my head lower than it had been and gazed at my hands. The broken heart was nowhere to be seen. But he hugged my fragile body and smiled at me for the last time and told me to take care as he left, on his way all he said was goodbye. And I stood there watching him walk away and then I glanced at my cold bare hands again, and now in my hands was my broken heart. He had broken my heart. In the other one I had the withered roses he had given me, the first time I came to know what love is, yes for the very first lovely time. …. More in the actual book …
  • 21. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 13 1) I can feel I can feel the parade of your wild past march over you No one to go to, I know that you have no clue You were left behind over here, weren’t you? You were stranded alone, isn’t that true? But don’t you know your presence is still lively? Don’t you know alone doesn’t mean lonely? Oh shirk away your hand, stop the plea. They are all gone, the doors are closed, don’t you see? The world’s blind, no one’s out there. They judge, they mar, they thoroughly ruin, They hate, they burn and then they stare. Try to look all around you, will you? Hold this moment and feel tomorrow’s breeze. There is a never ending way to walk along, Look ahead, wake up my child, Get ready for the future parade. 2) Greed We have it all But we don’t have enough of it all So we have the most of it all And make sure no one else has More than what we have from it all And then we are wolves
  • 22. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 14 Running behind it all We fight, we kill, we mock, we bury To have the rest of it all And we keep on dying And keep on destroying Just to take it all None of us knows the need For all of us to stay, to let live We don’t understand That without us There is nothing of all of it, at all. 3) Stop stop. look at it. the raindrop. the drop that just fell. it fell and it fell over you. it touched you. it chose you. it wanted you. it had a reason. it rested upon you. feel it. the joy inside it. the happiness to be touched. it blessed you. it can heal. heal you and your soul.
  • 23. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 15 let it clear your mess. smile at it. every drop counts. now you can feel a million. a million little emotions. every time it falls. falls over you. rains over you. 4) loss She sat by the court Thinking of it all The way she'd just lost A precious fight of life She looked at them leaving It felt like it meant nothing to them The fight they'd just won They weren't worth it Looking back at all those days The petrified hours Of scrubbing the ball down the aisle Running her body through it all She'd thought the efforts were enough But she sulked her head down now Trying to convince herself of the reality She was so close to what she'd wanted
  • 24. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 16 Yet again like always It slipped out of her hands Doubtful eyes stared at the court It felt it had betrayed her inner soul A tough fight, the one to always remember She smiled at the court with a glare of belief This wasn't the end, she nodded The win wasn't far away Loss was just a burden to carry She got up and strolled to leave the court Whispering to it for once The vision's bright and the heart's filled with that light. 5) Let me show you why Let me show you why, Just give me your hands. I'll tell you why they cry, Through their nightstands. Attachments of folly, Considered as silly. Laugh them off fellas, They're meant to be jokes. But Emotions and feelings, A cobweb of meanings. Touch each other's souls, Mend their empty holes.
  • 25. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 17 Pour their beautiful hearts, Play them like cards. Shattered into pieces, One night suddenly seizes. Heartbreaks down the allies, Love never tallies. True love said he, Just a fling said she. Let me show you why, Just give me your hands. I'll tell you about their cocoons of cove, When their nightstands. …. More in the actual book …
  • 26. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 18 REVIEWS 1. Review by Dr Sujala Watve This is Surabhi’s third poetry contribution I am reading – named “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”. A wonderful but devastating experience! I have to always prepare myself to take out a very silent time to read her poems. They attract you like a moth to light. They are difficult to understand as they lead you to a different world and still you can’t leave the real world. It makes you feel the sweet pain of the strains that she is bring about … I as a psychologist have always felt ‘Emotional Over excitability’ coined by Kazimierz Dabrowski, the Polish psychologist and psychiatrist, in these poems. Dabrowski states that Gifted Children (high ability and passionate individuals) feel the emotional turmoil at certain point of life towards their journey of life from ‘primary integration’ to ‘secondary disintegration’. This is due to super sensitivity, arising out of their giftedness, to the surrounding. I see this feeling in her while reading ‘Do They Feel?’ as well as in the third book “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”. She leads you through diverse intense feelings at varied moments. It is not only understanding but it takes you to experience every emotion through inside. It might be tormenting but giving birth to a very innovative product each time. I wonder how she could bear all these stresses and still carry on her academic pursuit.
  • 27. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 19 Hope that see also enjoys beauty in life and positive feelings to contribute more and more wonderful creations. Dr Sujala Watve Secretary, Jnana Prabodhini’s Institute Of Psychology, National Supervisory Psychologist, MENSA, Pune India http://www.jpip.org/index.php?r=teamMembers/index 2. Review by Mrs Sandhya Welankar "I have known Surabhi for the last few years and seen her grow into a beautiful young lady with a very intense and sensitive persona. Her poetry reveals her passion for life, and at such a young age she is indeed blessed to have been endowed with excellent command of the English language which finds expression through her imagination and firm opinion about different aspects of life like dark emotions, romance, adoration/devotions, etc. in her poems. Her sharp intelligence and passion for poetry is really commendable. She has skillfully shown compassionate feelings of love, depression, deprivation, disappointment as though she has herself experienced them, and I think readers can easily relate to the various situations which they might perhaps have undergone themselves From her book “Do They Feel?” Different shades of emotion are vividly portrayed in the poem 'Family' which shows how attached she is to her near ones, while 'Windows' explains beautifully how loneliness could be dealt with, and 'Love' is full of comforting and gentle or caressing thoughts. • 29. “eunoia” Surabhi Kulkarni 21 It is very difficult to understand our mind and also more difficult to conquer it. Surabhi has managed to explore various emotions of a mind very deeply and found the right words for her thoughts. “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and thought has found words.” - Robert Frost. Each of her poems deals with different emotions of the mind. I am really amazed that she writes these beautiful poems spontaneously without any editing or corrections. It is a beautiful flow of thoughts and words which is a unique virtue of any great poet. It is always a challenge for a poet like her if she is being admired without being understood. I hope all of you will understand the deep meaning of her poems which is far beyond her age and experience. I have become your fan “Surabhi”. Keep writing, Keep exploring ! Dr. Prasad Rajhans. It might take the whole of the life to get your own inner tone for “your own poetry”!!! But the journey must continue. Look at the poetry in this context. Finding your own “perfect note” is a huge achievement – I wish you good luck to be able to get the same. I wish you to have higher and higher level of writing and creation along the life. Review by Mrs Mridula Apte Surabhi’s book of poems “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” is a beautifully crafted piece of work. The passion and intensity of emotions that she feels, as she writes, grows on reader too! The progression of the poems from questions and confusion, to solutions and hope; point towards a young person’s journey and existential issues. The section “Morals” is particularly depicting her break-through from the shackles of confusion, pain and despair; which is typically an adolescent crisis.

Review by Mrs Nilima Puranik I met Surabhi Kulkarni in our P Jog college as my own student about one year back. I remembered her from even the first interaction with her. The very first day of the college, I conducted an ice breaker game to get the students talking about themselves. Surabhi could present the perception about herself very effectively. It’s a very good feeling to have a very capable and able students like Surabhi for a teacher within me. She kept giving me happiness many times during my lectures during the whole year. While discussing about the concepts taught in the class, her additional knowledge about and around the subjects was evident – it was definitely reflecting her additional reading efforts that she puts in. Surabhi is always engaged into some or the other initiatives in addition to studies like Poetry, Book Reading or movies – so much so that she not able to attend the college activities regularly actually does not matter at all – to both us as teachers and her as a student – she is always up-to-date. I just love her focused approach to keep learning the new concepts till she understands and masters it completely. That reflects her

Review by Mrs Sumedha Kulkarni It’s really a proud moment for me while I am writing my views about Surabhi’s poetry – especially on the occasion when she is publishing her third book on poetry… Yes, I am really feeling so great to be Surabhi’s mother”. Surabhi, from her childhood has been expressing her thoughts, in various forms – may it be stage drama performances, social gatherings or during any one-on-one discussions. Her ability to expressing the thoughts so well in poems is definitely a god gift and an extraordinary asset she possesses. I am seeing her poetry shaping up in a multi-dimension manner and now able to cover different and diverse emotions of human being at varied stages of life. During this process she has broaden the horizon of her thoughts and reach to the actual lives of many – which is reflected in her third poetry book “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”. We as parents feel great supporting her in the journey of poetry – She is very bright student and am sure she will pursue her passion

Review by Mrs Manjiri Tatwawadi Getting your hands on any new book and an emerging poet is a journey into an oblivion. It was an immense pleasure and great satisfaction to have got this wonderful gift to read through Surabhi's 'Mosaic Hearts Never Fade', 'Do They Feel' and “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness”. I'm left spellbound with her vigor, passion, perfection to express so candidly almost every thought that strikes her mind! Having read through her second Bouquet, I am truly mesmerized, a tiny soul that had just sprouted only a couple of years ago has already presented the world with her beautifully woven pearls of wisdom and unequivocal emotions! Her words have an in-depth power to bring unsung emotions, non-existent characters live. “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” is a sublime representation of teenage thoughts in the most apt form! I'm sure every individual who flicks through her poems would be taken down his/her teenage memory lane. That's an age when several thoughts are boggling one's mind, hovering over every now and then which at times one finds difficult to streamline or interpret. But must say at such a nascent age Surabhi has so vividly expressed her experiences, intense emotions and wider imaginations. I like her way of adding that silver lining of hope to any intense expression/ emotion. Surabhi is so honest in saying

I am so looking forward to what's next on the platter! Wonder how a poet never runs short of words in offering profound thoughts to the world! Life is all about retrospection...Would love to hear more from Surabhi about "thoughts Behind her every single poem". It's indeed hard to fathom the mind-set or the amount of efforts that go behind every single write-up. We wish this poetry reaches a wider audience and wish her the best in her journey ahead of distinct and delightful creations! May you continue to write for ever and emerge with poems with purposeful aura!! Review by Master Aditya Tatwawadi Surabhi’s books “Do They Feel?” and “Eunoia– The alluring thoughtfulness” have subsumed the zenith of the key themes being a teenager. With a pensive and dreamy style, Surabhi has elegantly woven the ups and downs of this stage in life and as a result, has produced several masterpieces in “Do They Feel?” with “Evil”, “Impossible” and “Let go the day” leaving a sensational mark in one’s books. In today’s day and age where society is dominated by control, it is extraordinary that Surabhi is willing to be defined by poetry and her words and explore the creativity of our beautiful world and life’s highs and lows. Such courage and determination is lacking in

Surabhi is now entering a mature stage in her literature career and with two excellent bouquets already published, she should be looking to up her game with further development and word order syntax.
