INTRODUCTION
• Optical levitation is a method
by which an object is Levitated by
by light.
• A sufficient amount of proton
energy can levitate an object.
• Mostly this optical levitation can be
done using lasers
Why optical levitation??
Wide usage of optical levitation
• Removing space junk • Optical tweezers
Theoretical usage of optical levitation
• Tractor beam in ufo’s • Replace magnets in
trains
Working :
• Optical levitation is majorly being used in
microbial Motion.
Working :
• When light such as laser is allowed to pass on a
object Then the object gets polarized And Object
gets into an electromagnetic wave
Working :
• During Emission of light on object it undergoes
lorentz force
Lorentz Force :
• Lorentz force is the Combination of electric and
magnetic Force On a point charge Dueto
electromagnetic fields
Working :
• This optical levitation technology is being used in
laboratories for moving microbes from one place to
other.
Optical tweezers
Advantages :
• So why to use optical levitation instead of magnetic
levitation
1.It has high range 2. Good stability
Advantages :

• It doesn’t depend on
material used.
• Not like magnets they
only work with specific
material
Advantages :
6. Unreachable places
• This can be used in the
places where humans can’t
reach.
Disadvantages :
1. Polarity
• Under magnetic
levitation the attraction
and repulsion of objects
is based on polarity.
• But it not possible in
light
Disadvantages :
2. Efficiency
• It consumes more power
when compare to magnets
Disadvantages :
3. Continuous power supply
is required
• But a magnet can work
without any continuous
power supply.
Disadvantages :
4. Any obstacles
• If there a are any
obstacles light can’t
pass
• Magnets work even with
obstacles
Disadvantages :
5. Only smaller
• Present technology is only
capable of levitating smaller
objects only.
• Magnets can levitate large
bodies too.
Disadvantages :
6. Need large area
• Unlike magnets lasers
requires more space.
Summary :
1.Optical levitation means levitation using light.
2.It is used in laboratories to move microbes.
3.It has vast usage in this world.
4.It can make transport objects within no time.
5.Optical levitation range is high.
