The pharyngeal plexus of nerves is formed by the union of the pharyngeal branches of the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves and the laryngopharyngeal branch of the superior cervical sympathetic ganglion. It lies in the buccopharyngeal fascia, superficial to the constrictor muscles, especially the middle constrictor. The glossopharyngeal nerve supplies sensory fibers to the oropharynx mucosa and parasympathetic fibers to the glands of this region.
