1.) Signalling system:- It is used to direct railway traffic and keeps
trains traffic clear.
1.1)Basic Signalling:-Busy urban areas have electronic
interconnections among the signal systems of the stations within the
areas. Suburban systems generally have colour-light signalling and
automatic block systems.
1.2)Interlocking:-an interlocking is an
arrangement of signal apparatus that prevents
conflicting movements through an arrangement of
tracks such as junctions or crossings.
Types of Interlocking:-
1. Mechanical Interlocking
2. Electrical Interlocking()
3. Panel Interlocking (for medium sized station)In
this, the points and signals are worked by individual switches that control
them
4. Route Relay Interlocking (for large sized
station)(In this, an entire route through the station can be selected and all the
associated points and signals along the route can be set at once by a switch for receiving,
holding, blocking, or dispatching trains.)
2.)Train traffic control:- Rail traffic controllers operate signals and
Track Circuits
Track circuits are electrical circuits that are formed including the running rails. They are set up
in such a way that when a train is on the tracks that are part of the track circuit, the circuit is
altered in some way
2.)Railnet:-
Railnet is the Enterprise Wide Area network of Indian Railways.
It is a modern network based on Layer3 MPLS(multiprotocol
level switching)-VPN hired from RailTel corporation of India
Limited
It connects 16 zonal headquarters and 66 divisons offices.
3.)SECTION CONTROL:-main task of section controller is controlling the
movement of rail traffic within their section .arranging the crossing of
trains ,efficient utilisation of wagons and formation of goods trains at
junction stations.

4.)RRI(ROUTE RELAY INTERLOCKING):- It is the system used in large and busy
stations that have to handle high volumes of train movements. In this, an entire
route through the station can be selected and all the associated points and signals
along the route can be set at once by a switch for receiving, holding, blocking, or
dispatching trains.
