4. COHESION
•Cohesion refers to the way we use
vocabulary and grammatical structures
to make connections between the ideas
within a text.
•It provides flow and sequence to your
work and helps make your paragraphs
clear for the reader.
5. COHERENCE
•Coherence means that the reader can easily
understand your writing.
•Coherence is about making everything flow
smoothly.
•The reader can see that everything is
logically arranged and connected.
•Relevance to the central focus of the essay
is maintained throughout

• Under length – If you have written less than the number
of words you are expected to write, your marks will be
reduced.
• No of words – The total count of words (as a note).
• Penalty – This area is marked if you have written under
length.
• Off topic – This means that you have written ideas that
were not even asked in the question.

readable.
