food, and cereal) in the U.S. spent 
about $1.6 billion in advertising in 
2006.k 
Television advertisements is 
considered the most effective 
advertising mode and format. 
In the 1960s, average 
advertisements ran for one minute. 
The second most popular location for 
listening is at home. The number of people 
listening to commercial radio online now 
includes nearly 20 percent of the people 
who listen each week.
Advertisements are a very important media area for the following reasons: 
• Businesses that continue on advertising no matter whether they fall or 
rise in the economic times get an advantage over those that cut their 
advertising budgets. 
• Advertisement about new products keep the customer informed 
about the new developments in the industry. 
• Advertising increases the sale of the product, it also helps the business 
to earn profits. 
• An effectual advertisement result in a change in the attitudes and 
habits of people.
Advertisements can also have many disadvantages, some of the 
reasons are: 
• When you make an advertisement on the internet your 
marketing materials are automatically available for 
anyone in the world to copy. 
• Internet-advertising gold rush has begun to introduce ad 
clutter to the web. For example: being on Utube and an 
add pops up. 
• Advertising costs change and some can be high enough 
to wreck havoc on small-business owner’s already limited 
budgets.
