This document summarizes a process for treating municipal solid waste (MSW) by using high-pressure extrusion to separate the waste into a wet organic fraction and dry inorganic fraction. The wet fraction is suitable for anaerobic digestion to produce biogas, while the dry fraction can be further sorted and used as a refuse derived fuel or for material recycling. The key steps involve using pressure extrusion to physically break apart the waste, anaerobic digestion of the wet fraction, and screening/sorting of the dry fraction for energy recovery or recycling.
