Consumer Action Monitor, January 2015, Key Findings and MethodologyOmbudsman Services
The Ombudsman Services's annual Consumer Action Monitor is one of the most comprehensive studies into the state and prevalence of consumer complaints in the UK. It tracks the number of complaints made each year, the sectors which attract the highest number of complaints and the barriers to escalating a problem into a complaint.
What does it take to improve existing public services? Or create new ones which better address citizens’ needs? Which stakeholders need to be involved in order to have real impact? Which organisational set-up is required to create public value?
After recently visiting the ‘Politics for Tomorrow’ conference and being deeply inspired, we invited to an evening on ‘Designing services for the public’. While we discussed the basics in a meet-up two years ago, we took it a step further this time. What can we learn from international government labs for Germany? What are the pressing issues which need to be addressed? How can we as service designers contribute to this change?
Looking at examples from other parts of the world our very own Katrin Dribbisch and Martin Jordan pitched idea of running a ‘Public Service Lab’ in summer 2016 in Berlin. The event took place in the brand-new office of Fjord Berlin in Prenzlauer Berg.
David Prior: driving improvements in the quality of care across the systemThe King's Fund
David Prior, Chair, Care Quality Commission, explains how clinicians, providers, commissioners and service users all have a role in regulation. He highlights the new responsibilities of the CQC and how they can help to support integrated care in England.
Measurement the progress of social inequity reduction work requires monitoring and evaluation ability, which depends on the availability of reliable and valid data of all population. In Thailand, the critical invisibility of marginalized people has caused the missing, undercounting and underrepresentation of their records. Hence, most of social inequality researches have a lack of quantitative data and frequently interpreted as none evidence-based research. This study explores the social science’s concept of inequity in Thai context. Anan Ganjanapan has introduced 3 aspects reinforcing inequity: (1) High Risk is the main characteristics of marginalized groups (2) High Rent is the general situation, which marginalized people experiences and (3) High Loss demonstrate the invisibility of those marginalized population. Based on these three aspects, the author applies comparative perspective with the available quantitative data, in which High Risk, High Rent and High Loss could be demonstrated. Both selected data of homeless and informal workers populations are analyzed. Subsequently, with the combination of those comparative data based on the “3 High” aspects, this paper will discuss how inequity or social inequality are measured.

This presentation is a supplementary material for the following article -> Nikiforova, A. (2019). Analysis of open health data quality using data object-driven approach to data quality evaluation: insights from a Latvian context. In IADIS International Conference e-Health (pp. 119-126).
This research focuses on the analysis of the quality of open health data that are freely available and can be used by everyone for their own purposes. The quality of open data is crucial as it can lead to unreliable decision-making and financial losses, however, the quality of open health data has even more critical role.Despite its importance, this topic is rarely discussed. Therefore, the previously proposed data object-driven approach to data quality evaluation is applied to open health data in Latvia in order to (a) evaluate their quality, highlighting common quality issues that should be considered by both, users and data publishers, (b) demonstrate that the used approach is suitable for given purpose as it is simple enough, and ensures the involvement of users even without IT and data quality knowledge (domain experts) in the data quality analysis examining data for their own purposes. The proposed solution seems to be useful in establishing communication between data users and publishers, improving the overall quality of data.

Recently there is an increasing pressure on the development of indicators and methodologies that can offer evidences of the societal impact of researchers’ activity. This presentation will offer a comprehensive overview on the definition of societal impact, types of impact, and the attribution problem when searching for potential indicators. A special attention will be given to altmetric indicators and their potential role in tracing social engagement and its relation with societal impact. Examples of potential uses and current lines of work will be presented.

Scientometric procedures are increasingly used to analyse developments and trends in science and technology. Decisions to be taken often have severe implications. Consequently data handling, indicator construction and interpretation require competent expert knowledge, which is currently only available to a limited extent for all stakeholders in Central Europe not the least due to lacking training opportunities. Data Colonialism and Digital Sustainability: Problems and Solutions to Curren...Matthias Stürmer
The global datasphere is growing from 60 Zettabytes today to 175 Zettabytes in 2025. Much of this data and software is privately controlled by American and Chinese corporations with enormous market power. Only the seven largest big tech companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Alibaba or Tencent already have a market capitalization of over USD 8700 billion, which is almost three times India's GDP. This trend is called data colonialism of the cyber space. What problems arise from this and how can they be solved? The concept of digitale sustainability addresses this challenge by presenting a new pathway towards greater data sovereignty.

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

24. Discussion of preliminary results
1. Severity of reports is negatively related to information quality: The
better citizens understand the information and trust the quality of “Züri wie
neu”, the less severe are the reports they submit.
2. Range of reports is negatively related to service quality:
Citizens who are happy with the service provided by the city of Zürich, are
more likely to report issues that concern only a few people.
3. Range of reports is positively related to user satisfaction:
People who are convinced that the city administration efficiently processes
the reports and acts according to the reported issues, these citizens are
more likely to report problems relevant to many others.
4. Quality of reports is positively related to system quality:
If someone is content with the tool, he or she is more likely to create a high
quality report.
24
25. Next steps with our paper
> Elaborate theory on co-producton, citizen-sourcing, and IS success model
> Deepen theoretical foundation of the value of reports
> Clarify coding schema of severity, range, and quality
> Increase number of manual report codings
> Improve statistical models regarding control variables etc.
> Verify the findings within the data
