Digital connectivity is a transformative phenomenon of the 21st century. While many have debated its impact on society, educators have been quick to mandate technology in school development - often without analysing the digital fluency of those involved, and the actual impact on learning. Is being digitally tethered creating a new learning nexus for those involved?
The famous educational philosopher, John Dewey, stated “We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience.’ Maker education involves hands-on and experiential activities. Learning can occur through the act of making but having learners reflect on their making experiences increases the likelihood of learning. It is not left to chance.
Learning How2Learn- Change- Rethink-Amplify
We live in a time and space when it is is truer than ever that "change is the only constant”.
What are some cultural shifts in our fast changing world, that have an impact on our own learning as educators and leaders? How do we adapt to this in a school environment? Can we dwell on our experience and degrees as educators and continue to stay relevant? Learning how to learn might be the most important skill we did not learn when we were in school.
Do you have to be a tech guru to be literate in a digital world? Or are the ones who are self- motivated, life-long learners and the ones who are accepting of and embracing change the ones flourishing in the modern world? We will take a look at the urgency of shifting school culture to a culture of learning how to learn. Let's talk about LEARNING, not technology!
As humans, we never fail to think that we are highly intelligent beings, and that we are mentally superior than any other creatures found on Earth.
Well, that...... may be true.
However, we can be equally stupid and dumb too.
Worse still, we don't even realize it - in terms of how we can make erroneous judgments, decisions and choices, based on how our mind processes and filters information, as well as how our belief system works.
As intriguing and exciting this topic is to me, I find it difficult to illustrate the concepts involve, and that took me nearly 6 months to complete this work. (The Planning Fallacy in play?!) Throughout writing this deck, I've made a total of 8 major revisions before coming to this final piece.

In the time it takes you to read this abstract, Facebook will have received another 150,000 unique page views from around the world. LinkedIn adds 10 new members every 5 seconds, with over 50% contributing to active discussions. And from flash mobs to #OccupyWallStreet, Twitter has already established itself as the tool of choice to redefine organized movements and protests.
Despite these incredible advances in social technology, however, collaboration in most organizations is still performed using a product first invented in 1971: Email.
In this presentation, we’ll look at the taxonomy of social networking and ask the question if and how it can be applied and extended to a traditional business. We’ll push the boundaries of what social networking can mean within an organization, from “friending” ERP and CRM systems through to using a social network as a knowledge library where employees can discover skills and share ideas. We’ll investigate the power of context as it relates to an organization’s social graph, and even look at how social networking can be used to transform reporting for your organization.
Whether you are new to the subject, or already have an implementation plan, you’ll walk away with a thorough understanding of how the technology can be effectively used within the four walls of your organization, and maybe even a different perspective on why we are all still relying on that technology from the 1970′s!
