WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY
Solar energy is the radiant light and
heat from the sun Harnessed using a
range of ever evolving technologies like
solar heating, photovoltaics, thermal
energy etc, It is gotten from the heat of
the sun.
Thermal energy is renewable source of
energy.
SOLAR CARS
• Solar cars which is a creation of the mechanical
engineering field is a car which uses photovoltaic
cells made up of semi-conductor materials such
as alloys of indium, gallium and nitrogen. It has
not really blended in the society but is used very
much for SOLAR CAR RACING today.
• The first solar car invented was a tiny 15-inch
vehicle created by William G. Cobb of General
Motors. Called the Sunmobile, it was showcased
in Chicago Powerama August 31, 1955. It was
made up 12 selenium photovoltaic cells and a
small Pooley electric motor turning a pulley
which in turn rotated the rear wheel shaft.
• Presently the fastest solar car is the sky ace tiga
with a whooping record of 91.332 km/h made in
the university of Ashiya Okinawa Japan.
CONVERSION OF SOLAR ENERGY FOR SOLAR CARS AND ITS
APPLICATION IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING.
Solar cars depend on solar array that uses photovoltaic
cells(PV Cells) to convert sunlight to electrical energy for
its movement.
Mechanical Engineering
"Solar vehicle" usually implies that solar energy is used to
power all or part of a vehicle's propulsion.
BENEFITS OF SOLAR POWERED CAR
1. Gasoline independence
2. Solar cars are noiseless
3. Low maintenance
4. Eco-friendly
5. Renewable and infinite source
of energy
6. Reduces cost of money spent
on global warming.
7. Prices of fossil fuel go low and
becomes affordable for all
classes in the society.
CAUSES OF CARBON MONOXIDE
According to research the sun hits the earth about 12.2 trillion watts hours per square
mile for a year.
The Indian press has reported that about 2000 people died in India in the year 2015
due to heat wave and this is due to the emission of soot from the millions of vehicle
used. And in telangana state there were about 486 deaths. Last year the heat wave
lasted about 4 days in the state therefore its causes outways its good to the society.
The causes of fossil fuel is so large and India been one of the nations looking toward
a green nation will see this as a great platform.
WHY INDIA AND THE WORLD NEEDS IT
India with a population of 1 billion+ people need this type of transportation because;
• High population
• Spends about 88 billion dollars yearly on fossil fuel exploration.
• Availability of modern technology and competitive market.
India solely depends on hydroelectric power plants which are presently generating
less power for its consumption and it has made her expansion program reduce in the
world.
The modern society is dependent on coal and oil and require immense amounts of
energy, yet are finite, however sunshine isnt disappearing any time soon.
The importance and benefits which the solar car presents to the
Indian society and world cannot be overemphasized because it
helps in long term planning as its energy cannot be wasted rather
renewed and it can be used for a very long period of time{ solar
cars can move for 250 miles = 400km continuously travel at a
speed of 60 mph, 90 kmh }.
The lifeline of a solar module is 30 yrs, with more investments from
the government this form of transportation is bound to reach new
heights and because its maintenance is so little it is a good gesture
for anyone who wants to spend less for a longer period of time.
