Spelling rules for the affirmative Usually we only add  -s  to the verb: I play football -> he play s  football. However, if the verb ends in  consonant  + –y : I study French -> she stud ies   French. If the verb ends in  –s, -z, -ch, -sh, -x, -o : I watch TV -> He watch es  TV. I go to school -> She go es   to school.
