The lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) is a novel aquaculture species. Unknown to most consumers – the watery gelatinous flesh is only appreciated in Nordic countries. Lumpfish are also effective cleaner fish which prey on the ectoparasite copepods - Lepeophtherius salmonis, commonly known as sea-lice (Powell et al., 2017).
Until recently, the only option for delousing was using medicines but sea-lice developed resistance and there are very few compounds licensed for use. Having lumpfish in the salmon cages eating the sea-lice has become an attractive and environmentally friendly alternative (Imsland et al. 2014).
For most farmed fish, the main goal is to grow fish fast and with a high Feed Conversion Rate, because the end product is fish biomass. But the purpose of using lumpfish in aquaculture is to delouse salmon. So, lumpfish are traded not in weight. but in number of individuals of a specific size – around 11 g - if they are too big they become ineffective at delousing salmon. So, the challenge is to stop lumpfish growing too quickly, but without compromising their welfare.
In this study, we compared the growth performance and welfare of lumpfish fed two commercial diets. One of the diets, is currently marketed as” low octane” formula with reduced protein/fat levels for controlled post vaccination.

Abstract— Present study was conducted in the river Chota Bhagirathi in Malda district of West Bengal to assess the productivity of fish-pens and its impact on economic condition of the pen farmers. Fifteen pen farmers were selected for the study and their age ranged from 25-40 yrs. Among them 53.33% were 31-35 yrs old and 33.33% were within 36-40 yrs. Individual pen farming area varied from 3.0 ha to > 6.0 ha in the river Chota Bhagirathi. According to the size, pens were categorized into three groups: small pen (3.0-4.5 ha), medium pen (4.6-6.0 ha) and big pen (> 6.0 ha). Small pen farmers contributed 40.00%, medium pens 33.33% and big pens 26.67% of the total pen farming area in the river. The lease amount of pens varied according to pen area. Maximum fish production achieved from P1 (3281 kg/ha/year), P7 (3333 kg/ha/year), P8 (3444 kg/ha/year), P9 (3225 kg/ha/year) and P10 (3279 kg/ha/year) compared with other pens. P1 (Rs. 1,14,474 ha/year) earned highest profit and P8 (Rs. 1,06,771 ha/year) was second highest among 15 pens. Healthy brooders are collected from nearby water bodies and held in an ante tank. Males and females are selected based on physical characteristics and injected intrapritoneally with the synthetic hormone ovatide to induce breeding. The dosed brooders are transferred to a breeding tank, with females outside and males within a enclosure. After 6-7 hours, spawning occurs and eggs are collected for incubation. The hatchery conducts all life stages of IMCs from breeding to nursery and rearing.

Sewage fed fish culture

hybrid red tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. mossambicus) and Nile tilapia (O. niloticus) reared in
concrete tanks for 60 days. The juvenile of Nile tilapia, T1 (mean weight 2.08±0.2 g) and hybrid red
tilapia, T2 (mean weight 2.07±0.16 g) were stocked in concrete tanks (15 × 6 × 3 ft). They were fed
with four isoenergetic (20.3 kJ g
) diets containing 35% protein at a daily ration of 5% body weight
with two replications. The highest weight gain was found in T2 (44.2±0.1g), while the lowest one
was recorded in T1 (34.3±0.2 g). Specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were

Abstract— Present study was conducted in the river Chota Bhagirathi in Malda district of West Bengal to assess the productivity of fish-pens and its impact on economic condition of the pen farmers. Fifteen pen farmers were selected for the study and their age ranged from 25-40 yrs. Among them 53.33% were 31-35 yrs old and 33.33% were within 36-40 yrs. Individual pen farming area varied from 3.0 ha to > 6.0 ha in the river Chota Bhagirathi. According to the size, pens were categorized into three groups: small pen (3.0-4.5 ha), medium pen (4.6-6.0 ha) and big pen (> 6.0 ha). Small pen farmers contributed 40.00%, medium pens 33.33% and big pens 26.67% of the total pen farming area in the river. The lease amount of pens varied according to pen area. Maximum fish production achieved from P1 (3281 kg/ha/year), P7 (3333 kg/ha/year), P8 (3444 kg/ha/year), P9 (3225 kg/ha/year) and P10 (3279 kg/ha/year) compared with other pens. P1 (Rs. 1,14,474 ha/year) earned highest profit and P8 (Rs. 1,06,771 ha/year) was second highest among 15 pens. Among the selected pen farmers, 73.33% were from non-fisherman community and only 26.67% from original fisherman folk.Fisheries sector and its economic significance in India

Fish Seed Production and Rearing Center in Bodla, Chhattisgarh breeds Indian major carps (IMCs) such as catla, rohu, and mrigal. Healthy brooders are collected from nearby water bodies and held in an ante tank. Males and females are selected based on physical characteristics and injected intrapritoneally with the synthetic hormone ovatide to induce breeding. The dosed brooders are transferred to a breeding tank, with females outside and males within a enclosure. After 6-7 hours, spawning occurs and eggs are collected for incubation. The hatchery conducts all life stages of IMCs from breeding to nursery and rearing.
