This document summarizes a case study on slum upgrading programs and disaster resilience in an Indian smart city. It describes interviews and focus groups conducted with 24 slum residents to understand their current disaster management strategies, needs, and preferences for infrastructure upgrades. Key findings included that some physical and non-physical infrastructure needs were not addressed by traditional slum upgrading programs. The study concludes that more longitudinal research is needed to evaluate how slum upgrading programs can help with disaster preparation and recovery in addition to reducing poverty.
