Preliminary Task: School magazine
Date line/Issue number –
It is important to include
the date or the issue
number on a magazine so
that the readers know
that they have the latest
issue and tat the
information is up to date.
Instead of using
a school logo
they used the
name second
name of the
school which is
‘Douglass’ which
gives it a very
modern and
fashionable feel
to it
The main image used successful to create
an eye contact with the audience and to
also create a relationship with the reader to
entice them
The different use of colours represents the
genre, very light colours blend well with the
background to make it look more appeling
Strap/sell line – This is important to include
as it is generally the unique selling point of
the magazine, and so the line that people
read and is aids their decision on whether to
buy/take the magazine or not.
The font used is very professional
with the magazine, it suits the
genre.
Target Audience Research
• This type of research
is very important with
my work, this is
because you need
certain characteristics
that will be specific to
my needs, the
information that I will
be collecting will very
valuable information.
With every vote I get,
I will be applying it
into a tally chart.
Therefore I will need
this information to be
correct because it will
be important to my
research. Moreover
this information needs
to be reliable so that I
can imply the
knowledge onto my
final piece.

AS Media Studies Preliminary Task – School Magazine Front Page Proposal Form
Target audience:
(age range, interests)
Although it is a school newsletter you still have to think about your
audience and how to appeal to them.
The audience will range from 11-18 years old, being the students of the school as well as potential students. However, the magazine would also be suitable for the parents
to read in order for them to have more information about the school and what’s going on at the school. However, the students of the school are a priority.
In order to appeal to this range of audience, the magazine should include colourful images and not be mainly text based as it can easily becoming boring to the eye and thus
my target audience wouldn’t be interested in reading the magazine.
Possible title ideas:
(masthead / title block)
What is your magazine going to be called?

Think about the writing and the style of the writing on your front page.

Technical considerations:
(equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting)
Be realistic and creative, think about what you have access to and how
you could use it.
Props I may include are a text book, table, pen and an exercise book for the main cover, to show that the student is working, and pieces of paper for the photo of students
with their results.
Lighting will be natural, people included will be in sixth form attire. The setting will vary from being in a classroom to being outside to show a variety of the school.

Front Cover:
Context page:
Crop:
The use of the crop can alter my
image so that it’s the perfect size for
a magazine cover picture. This is very
important because the cover picture
a magazine needs to have a specific
size, so by using the crop tool I can
alter the size of the image to use
what I need to create the title page.
To make it more in depth, I used the
size 315 x 685 on my cover. This size
is perfect for my cover page
magazine, this is what I will be using
to enure that I have the correct size
Font:
The use of the font is essential of the front of the magazine,
this is because the colours, image and writing is the first
thing people see. This will determine whether people will
want to pick up the magazine and take it. I used a very
sophisticated title font to show the opulence of the
magazine, this will make people believe that my magazine
is relevant and therefore read more inside. The colours I
believe are very important for the front cover, this is
because they determine the sort of genre your trying to
achieve. I used the colour blue to match the colour scheme
of Bishop Douglass.
I also used various tools to make the cover look
appealing, I used the fade tool to make my title
seem to fade which adds a lot of effects.
