2. Prehistory is the longest period in history
It is divided in three periods: Paleolithic Age, Neolithic
Age and Metal Ages.
Paleolithic Neolithic Metal ages
3. Paleolithic Age
Starts with the appearance of human beings, 5
million years ago.
Ends with the start of farming, 10.000 years ago.
Paleolithic means Old Stone.
4. Paleolithic in the Península
First men came from Africa
to the Peninsula about one
million years ago.
People lived in caves or
simple huts. They were
nomads, they did not have a
permanent house.
5. People in this age lived in tribes.
In order to get food, cavemen
hunted animals, fished fish and
gathered fruit and roots. They
lived next to rivers and lakes.
When they ran out of food, they
moved to another area.
They did not have a very high life
expectancy. Most of them died
very young.
6. Tools
They made tools out of stone or animal bones.
They learned how to make a fire to protect
themselves and cook the food.
7.
8. Neolithic Age
Started about 10.000 years ago, when people
started farming and cultivating.
As they were farmers, they did not need to be
nomads anymore, and they created the first
villages. They became sedentary.
10. METAL AGE
7.000 years ago, people learned how to make
objects out of metal.
First, they used copper. Later, they used bronze,
and then, iron.
They made the tools from the Neolithic Ages
better.
11. The first towns
Towns were created around
places where metals were found.
Towns were protected with
walls and were organized by a
chief.
People had new jobs: there
were soldiers, traders... All of
them worked for the village.
12. Tools
People needed the same
tools (axes, hoes, sickles...)
But they made them now
with metals (bronze, copper,
iron..)
13. How can we know about all this?
Paintings
Tools
Bones
Archaeological sites
14. Most important archaeological sites
Atapuerca:
Paleolithic
heritage
Numancia:
Iberian village
Altamira: prehistoric
paintings
15. What can we find there?
Bones
Tools
Paintings
Art
17. How did they build the dolmens?
People in Prehistory started using simple
machines in order to move and lift heavy
objects.
Two of the most important simple machines are
the lever and the inclined plane
18. Inclined plane
It is a simple machine.
It is basically a ramp.
We use it to move objects between
places located at different heights.
Pushing an object is easier to move
than lifting it.
The longer the ramp, the less the
effort
19. Lever
It is a simple machine.
It is a rigid bar that you push
or pull against a fulcrum or
pivot point.
