This document discusses reasons why films are remade and provides examples of Judge Dredd and REC. It states that films are remade for technological, financial, trends and other reasons. Judge Dredd was remade in 2012 to take advantage of improved technology and effects to better depict the source comics. It was also remade to capitalize on synergies with new comics and home releases. REC was remade as Quarantine in 2008 because its producers were worried Americans wouldn't see the original with subtitles, and to take advantage of financial benefits from vertical integration between the studio and distributor.
