Pam Ayres was born in 1947 in Berkshire and left
Faringdon Secondary Modern School at the age
of 15. After a stint as a clerical assistant, she
joined the Womens' Royal Air Force where she
discovered a love of singing and acting.
Performances at a local folk club led to her
reciting her poem 'The Battery Hen' on BBC
Radio Oxford; this was selected for Radio 4's
Pick of the Week and repeated on the 1974 Pick
of the Year programme. In 1975 she won the TV
talent show Opportunity Knocks with her poem
'Pam Ayres and the Embarrassing Experience
with the Parrot'. There followed appearances in
the UK and throughout the world and a
triumphant career as the only living professional
writer and performer of comic verse.
Pam Ayres was born at Stanford in the Vale in the
English county of Berkshire, now in Oxfordshire.
After leaving Faringdon Secondary School at the age
of 15, she joined the Civil Service as a clerical
assistant and worked at the Army (RAOC) Central
Ordnance Depot in Bicester. She soon left and
signed up for the Women's Royal Air Force, where
she worked in a drawing office dealing with
operational maps and it was there that she chose her
career as an entertainer. She began reading her
verses at the local folk club in Oxfordshire, and this
led to an invitation to read on the local BBC Radio
station in 1974. Her reading was re-broadcast
nationally, and then broadcast again as one of the
BBC's Pick of the Year.
In 1975 Ayres appeared on the television talent show Opportunity Knocks. This led to a wide variety
of guest appearances on TV and radio shows. In February 1976 she was paid ยฃ600 to star in a
cream cheese commercial. Since then she has published six books of poems, toured in a one
woman stage show, briefly hosted her own TV show and performed her stage show for the Queen.
Her poetry has a simple style and deals with everyday subject matter. Her poem Oh, I Wish I'd
Looked After Me Teeth, was voted into the Top 10 of a BBC poll to find the Nation's 100 Favourite
Comic Poems. In the UK Arts Council's report on poetry Ayres was identified as the fifth best-selling
poet in Britain during 1998 and 1999. However, in 2000 her TV show was ranked at number 64 in
Channel 4's 100 Greatest Moments from TV Hell.
Ayres is married to theatre producer Dudley Russell, and they have two sons, William and James.
They live in the Cotswolds, and keep some rare breeds of cattle, as well as some sheep, pigs,
chickens, and guinea fowl. Ayres is a keen gardener and beekeeper.[3] She is a patron of the
Battery Hen Welfare Trust.
the child poet has ruined her teeth by eating too much of sweets and candies.
now she feels sorry for having neglected her teeth. the child poet says that she
should has looked after her teeth. she should have seen the dangers that lay
beneath all the toffees she had chewed and the sweet sticky food she had
eaten. she wishes that, she should not have neglected her teeth.
due to her eating too much of sweets the child poet got cavities in her teeth.
she had to get these cavities filled by a dentist. now she has more fillings that
teeth in her mouth. the child now wishes that she should have paid respect to
her teeth and not given them too many candies. she should have spent her
pocket money on something else.
the child regretfully thinks of all the different kinds of sweets and candies she
had been eating. she used to eat big and small shebatdabs and hard brittle
peanuts. but now her consious feela a terrible prick for having eaten all that
harmful stuff.
since she ate too much of sweets, she had eventually to lie in the old dentist 's
chair. while lying there she would keep looking up misirably at the nose of the
dentist. while the dentist 's drill went whining into one of the child poet 's molars,
the dentist would say. ' amalgam has to be filled in two of them '.
The pointy teeth beside them are canine teeth or cuspids. There are four of
them, two on top and two on bottom. They help tear and grind food. Teeth with
two points are called bicuspids; you have eight of themin all, four on the top
and four on the bottom. You need to open your mouth a bit wider to see them.
They are bigger and stronger and have ridges that make them perfect
for crushing and grinding food.
We have eight back teeth, called molars. They are even wider and stronger
than bicuspids and have moreridges. The tongue brings the food to
your molars where it is crunched and then swallowed. Wisdomteeth are the
last teeth way back in the corner of the mouth. They arenโ€™t used for anything
and are oftenremoved because they can cause problems in a personโ€™s mouth.
They are called wisdom teeth because they come later on in life when a young
person is older and โ€œ wiserโ€.
Oral hygiene is the practice of
keeping the mouth and teeth clean
to prevent dental problems, most
commonly, dental cavities,
gingivitis, and bad breath. There
are also oral pathologic conditions
in which good oral hygiene is
required for healing and
regeneration of the oral tissues.
These conditions included
gingivitis, periodontitis, and
dental trauma such as subluxation,
oral cysts and following
wisdom tooth extraction.
Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day, for two minutes each time.
Use a dry bristle brush for the first two minutes of cleaning.
Spend time moving the bristles at and below the gum line, where it is most
important to clean.
Floss your teeth daily and after any food that will stick in your teeth
Avoid to eat sweet sticky food, gobstoppers, toffees, liquorice, lollies and
sherbet dabs.
Healthy teeth and gums do more than providing you a nice, shiny smile. Good dental
health - and good dental coverage - is a great way to keep your whole body in good
shape.
The kind of poor dental hygiene that produces gum disease, cavities and other infections
can have larger effects on your overall health. On the extreme end of things, some
recent studies link common oral problems to illnesses that include heart disease, stroke,
diabetes, premature birth, osteoporosis and even Alzheimer's disease. That's why it's
important to keep your mouth healthy with regular brushing and flossing, in addition to
periodic cleanings and check-ups with your dentist.
There are a few basic types of dental coverage - any of them can help you maintain
great dental health. Dental insurance's low cost makes it generally affordable for
individuals and families. And, because dental insurance encourages and generally pays
for regular check-ups, many people who purchase protection start to benefit
immediately. Don't get stuck with a big bill: the price of fixing a major tooth or gum
problem, such as a crown or root canal, can easily reach into the thousands of dollars.

Cosmetic dentistry may involve:
the addition of a dental material to teeth or gums examples: bonding, porcelain veneers (laminates),
crowns (caps), gum grafts
the removal of tooth structure or gums - examples:
enameloplasty, gingivectomy
neither adding nor removing dental materials, tooth
structure, or gums - examples: teeth
whitening (bleaching), gum depigmentation
straightening of teeth accompanied by improvement in
appearance of face - Orthodontics
Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleaning.

Visit an orthodontist for an evaluation if you see any of the early
warning signs of orthodontic problems.
Have your child(ren) evaluated by an orthodontist by age
seven. Many orthodontic problems can be more easily
corrected before tooth and facial growth is complete.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day using a soft-bristled
toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste.
Rinse and gargle with the mouthwash, ideally right before
bedtime.
Don't forget to clean behind your back teeth.

Don't give mouthwash or fluoride toothpaste to young children, as
they can swallow it.

Don't clean your tongue so hard that it hurts.

Don't drink too much coffee.

Don't smoke.

  • 2. Pam Ayres was born in 1947 in Berkshire and left Faringdon Secondary Modern School at the age of 15. After a stint as a clerical assistant, she joined the Womens' Royal Air Force where she discovered a love of singing and acting. Performances at a local folk club led to her reciting her poem 'The Battery Hen' on BBC Radio Oxford; this was selected for Radio 4's Pick of the Week and repeated on the 1974 Pick of the Year programme. In 1975 she won the TV talent show Opportunity Knocks with her poem 'Pam Ayres and the Embarrassing Experience with the Parrot'. There followed appearances in the UK and throughout the world and a triumphant career as the only living professional writer and performer of comic verse.
  • 3. Pam Ayres was born at Stanford in the Vale in the English county of Berkshire, now in Oxfordshire. After leaving Faringdon Secondary School at the age of 15, she joined the Civil Service as a clerical assistant and worked at the Army (RAOC) Central Ordnance Depot in Bicester. She soon left and signed up for the Women's Royal Air Force, where she worked in a drawing office dealing with operational maps and it was there that she chose her career as an entertainer. She began reading her verses at the local folk club in Oxfordshire, and this led to an invitation to read on the local BBC Radio station in 1974. Her reading was re-broadcast nationally, and then broadcast again as one of the BBC's Pick of the Year.
  • 4. In 1975 Ayres appeared on the television talent show Opportunity Knocks. This led to a wide variety of guest appearances on TV and radio shows. In February 1976 she was paid ยฃ600 to star in a cream cheese commercial. Since then she has published six books of poems, toured in a one woman stage show, briefly hosted her own TV show and performed her stage show for the Queen. Her poetry has a simple style and deals with everyday subject matter. Her poem Oh, I Wish I'd Looked After Me Teeth, was voted into the Top 10 of a BBC poll to find the Nation's 100 Favourite Comic Poems. In the UK Arts Council's report on poetry Ayres was identified as the fifth best-selling poet in Britain during 1998 and 1999. However, in 2000 her TV show was ranked at number 64 in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Moments from TV Hell. Ayres is married to theatre producer Dudley Russell, and they have two sons, William and James. They live in the Cotswolds, and keep some rare breeds of cattle, as well as some sheep, pigs, chickens, and guinea fowl. Ayres is a keen gardener and beekeeper.[3] She is a patron of the Battery Hen Welfare Trust.

  • 9. The pointy teeth beside them are canine teeth or cuspids. There are four of them, two on top and two on bottom. They help tear and grind food. Teeth with two points are called bicuspids; you have eight of themin all, four on the top and four on the bottom. You need to open your mouth a bit wider to see them. They are bigger and stronger and have ridges that make them perfect for crushing and grinding food. We have eight back teeth, called molars. They are even wider and stronger than bicuspids and have moreridges. The tongue brings the food to your molars where it is crunched and then swallowed. Wisdomteeth are the last teeth way back in the corner of the mouth. They arenโ€™t used for anything and are oftenremoved because they can cause problems in a personโ€™s mouth. They are called wisdom teeth because they come later on in life when a young person is older and โ€œ wiserโ€.
  • 10. Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean to prevent dental problems, most commonly, dental cavities, gingivitis, and bad breath. There are also oral pathologic conditions in which good oral hygiene is required for healing and regeneration of the oral tissues. These conditions included gingivitis, periodontitis, and dental trauma such as subluxation, oral cysts and following wisdom tooth extraction.
  • 11. Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day, for two minutes each time. Use a dry bristle brush for the first two minutes of cleaning. Spend time moving the bristles at and below the gum line, where it is most important to clean. Floss your teeth daily and after any food that will stick in your teeth Avoid to eat sweet sticky food, gobstoppers, toffees, liquorice, lollies and sherbet dabs.
  • 12. Healthy teeth and gums do more than providing you a nice, shiny smile. Good dental health - and good dental coverage - is a great way to keep your whole body in good shape. The kind of poor dental hygiene that produces gum disease, cavities and other infections can have larger effects on your overall health. On the extreme end of things, some recent studies link common oral problems to illnesses that include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, premature birth, osteoporosis and even Alzheimer's disease. That's why it's important to keep your mouth healthy with regular brushing and flossing, in addition to periodic cleanings and check-ups with your dentist. There are a few basic types of dental coverage - any of them can help you maintain great dental health. Dental insurance's low cost makes it generally affordable for individuals and families. And, because dental insurance encourages and generally pays for regular check-ups, many people who purchase protection start to benefit immediately. Don't get stuck with a big bill: the price of fixing a major tooth or gum problem, such as a crown or root canal, can easily reach into the thousands of dollars.

  • 15. Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleaning. Visit an orthodontist for an evaluation if you see any of the early warning signs of orthodontic problems. Have your child(ren) evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. Many orthodontic problems can be more easily corrected before tooth and facial growth is complete. Brush your teeth at least twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste. Rinse and gargle with the mouthwash, ideally right before bedtime.
  • 16. Don't forget to clean behind your back teeth. Don't give mouthwash or fluoride toothpaste to young children, as they can swallow it. Don't clean your tongue so hard that it hurts. Don't drink too much coffee. Don't smoke.
