Decision
Making
Characteristics of evaluation
DR DS BLOOM (1971) has enlisted the
following main purposes of evaluation:
To diagnose the strengths and weakness of
the learner with a view to find him in future
To predict the educational practices with a
student teacher can best make us of.
At the end of the carrier to certify the
student's degree of competency in a
particular field.
To assess pupils progress from time to time.
PURPOSE OF EVALUATION
QUALITIES OF A GOOD
EXAMINITION AND ELIGIBILITY
TEST
PROCESS OF EVALUATION
Process of evaluation identifying and
defining the general objectives
Identifying and defining the specific
objectives
Selecting teaching points.
Process of evaluation planning learning
activities Appraisal Using the result as
feedback.
TYPES OF EXAMINATION
1.INTERN
AL
EXAMINI
TION
2.EXTER
NAL
EXAMINI
TION
1.INTERNAL EXAMINITION
It is the process in
which the teachers
and schools judge
the students’
performance on the
basis of his
performance. Also,
this process does
not involve any
outside person for
assessment
2.EXTERNALEXAMINITION
Outside persons prep
are
these assessment
methods and they
are responsible and
involved in it.
Besides, it is done to
give students the
required certificate
or degree or diploma
for which the student
has applied.
Principles of External Examinition
i. It should be continuous and made
by subject teacher. It does not
replace exams.
ii. It uses suitable evaluation tools
and techniques.
iii. Fix proportion of marks according
to hours of instructions and
importance of subject of nursing.
iv. Used as a feedback to improve
teaching.
v. Results must be studied
statistically.
PROCESS OF EXTERNAL EVALUTION CONDUCT
Selection of paper setter and reviewers.
Setting and moderation of question papers.
Posting of police personnel at the centers.
Distribution of question papers to
examinees under the supervision of the
centre superintendent.
Supply of stationary to centers.
Appointment of superintendents and
invigilators and staff for the fair conduct of
examination at centers. Selection of
examination centers
ASPECTS OF EXTERNAL
EVALUATION
ADVANTAGE OF EXTRANAL EXAMINITION
It justifies the decision as to whether they should
move up to the next class or be awarded a degree or
diploma.
External assessment is useful in determining the
abilities of a student before developing a plan.
It also assists in following positive values.
External assessment is the best way to evaluate and
revaluate the course of studies. It can be used as a
good device for motivating students.
It brings about a change in the attitude, interests
and appreciation of students and teachers towards
school programmers.
DISADVANTAGES OF EXTERNAL EXAMINITION
Much narrower range of assessment opportunities: less
diverse assessment; one exam per year.
Removes assessment entirely from teaching and
learning; stressful conditions may lead to students not
demonstrating real capacities.
Limits validity by limiting scope of assessment, e.g.
difficult to assess interaction skills in exam environment.
The only feedback is usually a grade at the end of the
course; no opportunities for interaction with assessor; no
chance to ask how to improve.
Examination is purely summative.
Teachers have no opportunity to build their assessment
skills; get little or no feedback on how to improve as
teachers.
SUMMARY
Today I have discuss external examination
which include meaning of evaluation types,
definition, process, aspect, importance and
objective, advantage and disadvantage of
external examination.
For improving and making education
more qualitative and for continuous
and comprehensive evaluation of
students it is necessary that internal
and external evaluation at school level
is conducted according to aims and
objectives. Even if appearing in many
forms and types, the main purpose of
Evaluation is the assessment of
teaching- learning outcomes. Both
internal-external evaluation and
formative-summative evaluation helps
the teacher and students to know the
level of their achievement which is
essential for diagnostic
Conclusion.
