Conflict is a Painful Condition or state of an individual. Types of Conflicts:Approach-Approach Conflict: The conflict is between two positive valences two equally attractive choices in strength. A child may have to choose between reading an interesting book and preparing a project. There little danger in this type of conflict. 2. Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict: It is just like being caught between the devil and the deep sea. Conflict of this type is evoked by two negative valences. Both tendencies are to retreat from or to avoid something For example, a child who does not want to study and at the same time does not want to displease his parents by not studying, may experience some conflict Usually conflicts of this type are more serious than Approach-Approach type conflict. Approach-Avoidance Conflicts: In this type of conflict, approaching and avoidance tendencies are evoked simultaneously For example, a child wants to play cricket but is afraid of being hurt An adolescent belonging to an orthodox family is invited by a girl. He looks upon such an invitation with anxiety. On the other hand, he does not wish to look old-fashioned and backward in the eyes of his friends and is also of his parents. The first attracts him and the second frightens him. This type of conflict is most difficult to solve. Approach-avoidance conflict often leads to inferior adjustment or unreduced anxiety. Definitions of conflicts:Douglas, O.B. and Holland, B.F. “Conflict means a painful emotional state which results From a tension between opposed and contradictory wishes.” Lewin, Kurt “ Conflict is usually a clash of motives” Katz, Barney and Lehner, G.F. “Psychological conflict is a state of tension brought by the presence in the individual of two or more opposing desires.” From above conclude that conflict is a painful condition or state of an individual. During this state, an individual feels intense emotional tension.Emotional tension results on account of the presense of two or more desires of the individual. These desires are contradictory in nature and it is not possible to satisfy these fully simultaneously. The individual who is not able to choose between these opposing two desires becomes a victim of conflict. Kurt Lewin states that conflict arises as a result of interaction between the individual and his environment. Behaviour tendencies are represented by vectors which show the direction and strength of the individual's striving.Most of the impulses can be described as diected towards or away from an event in the environment. This is described in terms of valences of which positive (+) valences are tendencies to approach and negative(-) are tendencies to withdraw and avoid. Valences and vectors are both field phenomenon and can be defined only in terms of both the character of the person and the forces of the environment acting on him. Neo pi

Colleague 1: Chelsie
Brady is a 15 year old that is currently facing many challenges in his life. Brady is not only struggling in school but at home as well. Brady and his father presented to the social worker because of the concerns that Brady's dad has had with Brady's behavior. However, after completing a session with the social worker, it became more apparent that Brady's behavior has stemmed a lot from his father's own behavior. It appeared that during the session, the social worker utilized multiple assessment tools to gather the data. One of the most important assessment tools were the multiple interviews conducted with both Brady and his father. According to Springer & Powell (2013), " The interview serves several purposes, such as an opportunity to establish rapport with the client and allow the client to tell his or her story" (p.73). During the assessment interview, the social worker was able to build enough rapport for Brady to feel comfortable to share that he has been physically abused by his father at home. After reflecting on the information shared by Brady about his father, it can be assumed that Brady struggles with close emotional attachment with his father. There is an apparent of lack of emotional attachment because Brady is afraid of his father. As a result of the lack of emotional attachment, Brady exhibitsbehavioral problems in the community as a way to receive attention that he does not receive at home, and because it is the only way he understands how to react, due to watching his father's aggressive tendencies.

Brady is a 15 year old that is currently facing many challenges in his life. Brady is not only struggling in school but at home as well. Brady and his father presented to the social worker because of the concerns that Brady's dad has had with Brady's behavior. However, after completing a session with the social worker, it became more apparent that Brady's behavior has stemmed a lot from his father's own behavior. It appeared that during the session, the social worker utilized multiple assessment tools to gather the data. One of the most important assessment tools were the multiple interviews conducted with both Brady and his father. According to Springer & Powell (2013), " The interview serves several purposes, such as an opportunity to establish rapport with the client and allow the client to tell his or her story" (p.73). During the assessment interview, the social worker was able to build enough rapport for Brady to feel comfortable to share that he has been physically abused by his father at home. After reflecting on the information shared by Brady about his father, it can be assumed that Brady struggles with close emotional attachment with his father. There is an apparent of lack of emotional attachment because Brady is afraid of his father. As a result of the lack of emotional attachment, Brady exhibitsbehavioral problems in the community as a way to receive attention that he does not receive at home, and because it is the only way he understands how to react, due to watching his father's aggressive tendencies.

In this section we present several steps to identifying an issue. You don’t have to follow them in this particular order, and you may find yourself going back and forth among them as you try to bring an issue into focus.
Keep in mind that issues do not simply exist in the world well formed. Instead, writers construct what they see as issues from the situations they observe. For example, consider legislation to limit downloads from the Internet. If such legislation conflicts with your own practices and sense of freedom, you may have begun to identify an issue: the clash of values over what constitutes fair use and what does not. Be aware that others may not understand your issue and that in your writing you will have to explain carefully what is at stake.
◼ Draw on Your Personal Experience
You may have been taught that formal writing is objective, that you must keep a dispassionate distance from your subject, and that you should not use I in a college-level paper. The fact is, however, that our personal experiences influence how we read, what we pay attention to, and what inferences we draw. It makes sense, then, to begin with you — where you are and what you think and believe.
We all use personal experience to make arguments in our everyday lives. In an academic context, the challenge is to use personal experience to argue a point, to illustrate something, or to illuminate a connection between theories and the sense we make of our daily experience. You don’t want simply to tell your story. You want your story to strengthen your argument.
For example, in Cultural Literacy, E. D. Hirsch personalizes his interest in reversing the cycle of illiteracy in America’s cities. To establish the nature of the problem in the situation he describes, he cites research showing that student performance on standardized tests in the United States is falling. But he also reflects on his own teaching in the 1970s, when he first perceived “the widening knowledge gap [that] caused me to recognize the connection between specific background knowledge and mature literacy.” And he injects anecdotal evidence from conversations with his son, a teacher. Those stories heighten readers’ awareness that school-aged children do not know much about literature, history, or government. (For example, his son mentions a student who challenged his claim that Latin is a “dead language” by demanding, “What do they speak in Latin America?”)
Hirsch’s use of his son’s testimony makes him vulnerable to criticism, as readers might question whether Hirsch can legitimately use his son’s experience to make generalizations about education. But in fact, Hirsch is using personal testimony — his own and his son’s — to augment and put a human face on the research he cites. He presents his issue, that schools must teach cultural literacy, both as something personal and as something with which we should all be concerned. 1.Based on the information in the article by Terri Apter, summarize how, when, and why self-doubt typically develops in young people. Then describe one "wrong" way to build self-esteem and one "right" way, explaining why for each.
Self-doubt can begin within childhood experiences, which may include issues with attachment. Positive interactions with teachers can result in a form of security attachment. Giving the child a feeling that they can rely on them. When the child reaches tween years they start to come into their own. They begin to experience life and the ups and downs that come with life. As children reach tween years they are attempting to be more grown up. We as adults should make sure the tween knows there success in life depends on them and the work they put out to be successful in life.
The wrong way to promote self-esteem is by not teaching the child that they are somebody. You have to help build self-esteem by giving compliments not by calling them dumb and they will never be nothing in life. If I child continues to hear negative things it will in term believe them. And feel like what’s the point of going to school. The right way to promote self-esteem would be giving the child choices, let them know no one is perfect among other things. Always let the child know they can achieve any goal if they work hard and stay persistent.
2.In the "The Strive of It" and "Joy in School" Kathleen Cushman and Steven Wolk each discuss how to motivate students by allowing them to choose their own pursuits. How do the strategies presented in these articles relate to the ideas of the Circle of Courage, as described by Martin Brokenleg and Tim McDonald? Explain at least two specific ways that ideas presented in one or both of these articles fulfill some or all of the values of the Circle of Courage.
As talked about in the articles Independence becomes a main form of the child developing who they are. A sense of belonging getting joy out of learning and being around others and interacting in a learning environment. The mastery would be taking on a new project and being the one best at the task at hand. If a task looks fun and interesting the child will jump aboard the learning experience. Generosity will close the circle by giving back to other students what the child has learned outside school. Making the task at hand seem more worth completing.
For example in the article “The Strive of It” by Kathleen Chusman it talks about children taking a trip to Washington D.C. Students interview embassies and nongovernment organization later to have a discussion with other students on questions to be answered. This allows the children to have a sense of belonging, as well as the generosity to share with others allowing them to grow and master the task that has been sit for them.

The introduction is a good place to discuss developmental stages and changes that occur during the age group of the identified client. For example: During middle childhood self-esteem is impacted positively and negatively by social involvement with peers, physical appearance, and academic status (Blewitt & Broderick, 2015). Make sure to provide in-text citations for anything that is not common knowledge or an original thought. This case should be written in 3rd person and should be objective (stating, facts, observations, and reported information). This should be written in Standard English with complete sentences and paragraphs. Consider the difference between speech and academic writing. For example: “The client that I will be presenting has gotten into lots of fights with other kids”. Gotten into and lots in not good academic English. Consider replacement words like engaged, instigated, or become instead of the word gotten and words like several, numerous, many instead of the word lots. For example: “John has been acting out aggressively and has physically fought with other students on numerous occasions.” Or “The client’s parents report that they have had to meet with teachers and the principal on multiple occasions because of his frequent involvement in physical fights with his peers.”

Demographics include identifying data age, gender, social status, income, marital status, education, religion, ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, residence, family constellation, etc. You should also include living arrangements and household make-up. You can include legal, medical, psychological, and abuse history here as well. For this case, you can include any medications he has been prescribed and why. The case scenario does not offer a lot of information so you can create your own details.

DEFINITIONS OF A CONFLICT Douglas, O.B. and Holland, B.F. “Conflict means a painful emotional state which results From a tension between opposed and contradictory wishes.” Lewin, Kurt “ Conflict is usually a clash of motives” Katz, Barney and Lehner, G.F. “Psychological conflict is a state of tension brought by the presence in the individual of two or more opposing desires.”
- 4. TYPES OF CONFLICTS 1-Approach-Approach Conflict: The conflict is between two positive valences two equally attractive choices in strength. A child may have to choose between reading an interesting book and preparing a project. There little danger in this type of conflict. 2. Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict: It is just like being caught between the devil and the deep sea. Conflict of this type is evoked by two negative valences. Both tendencies are to retreat from or to avoid something For example, a child who does not want to study and at the same time does not want to displease his parents by not studying, may experience some conflict Usually conflicts of this type are more serious than Approach-Approach type conflict.
- 5. TYPES OF CONFLICTS 3. Approach-Avoidance Conflicts: In this type of conflict, approaching and avoidance tendencies are evoked simultaneously For example, a child wants to play cricket but is afraid of being hurt An adolescent belonging to an orthodox family is invited by a girl. He looks upon such an invitation with anxiety. On the other hand, he does not wish to look old-fashioned and backward in the eyes of his friends and is also of his parents. The first attracts him and the second frightens him. This type of conflict is most difficult to solve. Approach-avoidance conflict often leads to inferior adjustment or unreduced anxiety.
