The Life Of Bob Dylan
The Life of Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan is often considered to be one of the greatest and most influential musicians of all time. He
has released 36 albums, and has amassed a huge following of music lovers. His songs have ranged
from poetic folk songs that discuss social issues of the 1960s, to covers of very famous songs recorded
with his own stylistic twist. He was one of the first rock artists whose lyrics were considered to be on
par with works of literature (1)He has also been one of the only artists, to this day, that has been able
to consistently affect listeners of any generation. For over 5 decades, he has remained a dominant
musician in the American recording arts and he will remain such for decades to come. Bob Dylan was
born as Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota on May 24, 1941. He grew up nearby in the small
town of Hibbing, Minnesota. It was there, in Hibbing, where he learned to play guitar and set the
foundation for his successful music career. Dylan attended Hibbing High School where he formed a
band called The Golden Chords, which covered songs from the likes of Elvis Presley and Little
Richard (2). The Golden Chords never achieved mainstream success and disbanded after the members
graduated high school. After high school, Dylan (whose legal name at this time was still Robert
Zimmerman) attended the University of Minnesota. While there, he began performing at local coffee
houses under the name Bob Dylan. He eventually decided college wasn t for him and

Why Is Lou Gehrig Important
Have you ever wondered if there was a legend or two in each baseball team. Lou Gehrig is undeniably
courageous because He was an excellent ballplayer, Also he was a respectful person, and He would
always Persevere. My first example showed how Lou Gehrig was an excellent person. On August 17,
1933, New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig plays in his 1,308th consecutive game, breaking
former Yankee Everett Scott s record for consecutive games played, This would be excellence because
he had broken the record for most consecutive games. That wasn t all that made him an excellent
person he was the All Star first baseman for the first seven All Star teams, from 1933 39, though he
retired just shy of the 1939 game. During his 17 seasons, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But it seemed that another teammate always got more headline attention. First it was Babe Ruth, then
later Joe DiMaggio. When historian Fred Lieb asked Gehrig about playing in Ruth s shadow, Gehrig s
answer was true to form: It s a pretty big shadow. It gives me lots of room to spread myself. He wasn t
the only person that did not persevere. His mother, a strong woman who was intent on creating a better
life for her son, worked constantly, cleaning houses and cooking meals for wealthy New Yorkers. His
mother would never give up on giving her son to have a better life. Lou would also persevere when he
was a child. As a boy, Lou was a fan of the Giants, and he attended games at the Polo Grounds
whenever he could save up the 25 cents needed for a left field bleacher seat. Years later, he recalled,
The Giants had been our favorites, and our quarters had all gone for a seat in the left field bleachers,
This showed how Lou Gehrig had never given up to get enough money to be able to watch a baseball

Views on the Vietnam War Expressed in the Films The Ugly...
Film during much of the Vietnam War and the years after usually attempted to push a strong agenda.
Not until later did movies become less biased, especially when talking about Vietnam. The Ugly
American, directed by George Englund, and The Green Berets, directed by John Wayne, are no
exceptions. The Green Berets propose a strong support for the war while The Ugly American tended
to blame the United States for being in an unnecessary war. Nevertheless, while both movies differ
strongly in their views, both tend to convey the horrors of war. The Green Berets was a movie that
continuously encouraged its audience to prolong the Vietnam War. Just as the movie begins, a scene
takes place that sets the stage for the rest of the movie. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the war persuades both the Vietnamese and Americans that fighting has no productivity.
The local Vietnamese explain they do not want Freedom Road because it will bring the Cold War to
Vietnam (Ugly American, The). Having both perspectives allowed the director to influence his
viewers using two concepts. Even Deong rallies against the Americans as the movie continues toward
its inevitable conclusion. He willingly allows the communist protesters to attack MacWhite to try to
stall America s imperialist efforts (Ugly American, The). It appears that nearly every person tried to
condemn the Vietnam War as a burden on everyone. The Ugly American differs from The Green
Berets because it criticizes the Vietnam War rather than sympathizing with it. Although there are many
disparities between the two movies, both agree that war, whether Vietnamese or not, is never
pleasurable. For instance, The Green Berets broke from its morals near the end of the movie. Notably,
Sergeant Petersen dies despite the fact that an observer might think the war then too costly to continue
(Green Berets, The). Even though the creators and producers of The Green Berets wanted their
audience to believe war was just, they also agreed it was costly. Deong s death has a very similar
perspective and again contradicts itself. With Deong s death a viewer may imagine that the hero they
came to know died needlessly (Ugly American, The). Evidently, the makers of

Assessment of the Native American Experience from...
Assessment of the Native American Experience from 1925 1975 Throughout the 1925 1975 period,
the Native American population of the United States has faced many obstacles. Just a few years
before, they had been suppressed by the federal government s Anti Long Hair policy for all Native
American males. This would set the stage for future cultural restraint on the Indians. However, they
continued to fight for equality. All through this time period, the experience of the Native American
culture has been a struggle for equality in their homeland. A major struggle for the Native population
was that of land. This is a primary issue for several reasons. First of all, the Europeans invaded their
land in the 16th century ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1968 the Supreme Court case Menominee v. US aided the cause in ruling that states could not
interfere with hunting and fishing rights on the Indians land which had been secured in previous
treaties. In addition, settlements were made in the 1970s that paid damages to tribes whose land had
been illegally seized by whites. However, there were still other issues that needed to be solved during
this time. The most important issues were those of social rights, self autonomy, and cultural freedom.
These were, however, more difficult tasks. Congress played the primary role in these situations
because of its legislature regarding Native American tribes. Public Law 280, passed in August of
1953, gave power to the states to take over civil and criminal jurisdiction. Because of this, the tribes
were at a loss in authority to regulate themselves. In addition, President Lyndon B. Johnson urged for
the termination of Indian programs for self determination during his term in 1968. Despite these
setbacks, legislature was passed that was beneficial to Native Americans. In June of 1924, Congress
granted citizenship to all Native Americans who were not yet citizens. This was a step towards social
equality for all Native

Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios
Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings
Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative care
requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to promote
change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the varying
patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having high PNRs may
lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al., 2012; Karavasiliadou
Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in areas such as the
emergency room. To initiate this change, a task force would have to be established to use current data
and research as evidence to propose the change, implement the change and evaluate its effectiveness.
Change Model Overview
The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence Based Practice (JHNEBP) process can be used to facilitate
change. This process serves as a guideline to access, combine, and implement research into nursing
practice. According to Dearholt and Dang (2012), the JHNEBP is an 18 step process that occurs in
three phases. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be summarized as the
practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012). Phase two is the evidence
phase containing steps 6 through 10 and is where search for evidence pertaining to the issue

Pillars Of The CIA Triad
THE CONCEPT OF THE (C I A)
The CIA triad of confidentiality, integrity, and availability is at the heart of information security
(Perrin, 2012). The pillars of the CIA Triad provide a significant foundation of security in an
information system. The decisions and implementations of each of these pillars will impact the overall
security posture. Pillars are incremental so an increase or decrease in implementation of a given pillar
will have a cumulative effect.
Confidentiality is the term used to prevent the disclosure of information to unauthorized individuals or
systems. Information has value, especially in today s world and it has to be kept safely to avoid
unnecessary breach of information, an important way of keeping or protecting information

Analysis Of Tell My Horse By Zora Neale Hurston
In Zora Neale Hurtson s ethnography, Tell My Horse (1938), she uses her research and field notes
from her year in the Caribbean islands to study how the political atmosphere and culture tie into the
religion of Vodoun. Being one of the first in her field to study this religion, Hurston hoped to expand
research upon the subtle nuances within the African diaspora and increase the people of Caribbean s
acceptance of their African identity. In doing so, Hurtson found her research discouraged the idea of
Pancaribbeanism and diminished stereotypes of Vodoun being a religion based upon only evil
possession and pagan sacrifice. As an up and coming African American author in the Harlem
Renaissance, Hurston accomplished major feats against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Her racial disposition as an African American also made many of the participants more comfortable
discussing religious and social topics with her. Throughout her research, Hurston studied two main
aspects of the Vodoun culture, those rituals and rites surrounding death, and those surrounding the idea
of marriage. This stark contrast relates back to her main focus of her research and hopes of smashing
the stereotype of Vodoun being an evil, pagan religion. One intriguing aspect that was present in a
majority of her research was the basis of the culture and religion around orature. In orally passing
traditions and rites through the generations, it ensures that with each family, generation, and especially
island, that there are differences in how certain ceremonies are held. For example, during her
observation of a family s funeral rites, Hurston asked many different family members how they
spotted and trapped any stray duppies, or spirits, that may be around. To Hurston s surprise, each
family member had a slightly different answer to both question, with some saying the way to spot a
duppy was through suspicious, sneaking movements without eye contact, to as grotesque as foaming
at the mouth. (59 61). This was furthered proven when every answer was different in how to trap a

The Three C s Of Lydia Hall
Thank you, Blue Group, for you report on The Three C s of Lydia Hall. The assumption that healing
exists within the patient shows how the patient is Core, thus explaining one of the major propositions.
In other words, her theory emphasizes the importance of the patient centered care in the cure of
disease.
Health care has moved from a disease centered model to a patient centered model. With the disease
central model, the physician makes all the decisions. In the patient centered model, the patients are
active participants in the care (Patient Centeredness, 2011). The patient centered care should make the
patient the decision maker of the care by enabling them to participate in the care actively. They should

Escaping the world s foolishness
Every one of us sometimes thinks that we need a break from life, and that s what Christopher Johnson
McCandless wanted. The book Into the Wild by john Krakauer talks about Chris s journey the
wilderness. Chris was brave to take the decision to go live in the wilderness and hitchhike to Alaska
alone. Shaun Callerman stated that [Chris] made a lot of mistakes based on arrogance... I think he was
jus plain crazy. I disagree with Callerman point of view, because in my opinion Chris wasn t crazy, but
he was courageous. Chris didn t go there to kill himself, but he was enjoying every moment in his
journey. Although, Chris had a love for the wild and being independent; He was just fed up with
society and wanted to live on his own away from all of that.

The Tragedy Of Florida Native Jeff Bush
INTRODUCTION Rarely do the geologic processes of the earth make major news headlines, but
oftentimes when they do, it is because a catastrophic event has occurred and has seized public
attention. This was unfortunately the case in 2013, when Florida native Jeff Bush became the victim of
a tragic geologic event that left many Americans wondering if they were truly ever standing on solid
ground (Sinkhole Swallows Florida Man). Bush, and a large portion of his suburban home, was
swallowed up by a sudden sinkhole as his brother looked on in horror, trying in vain to rescue him as
he was forced deeper underground. This sinkhole developed as a result of the dissolution of limestone,
which is prevalent under much of Florida s soil, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this paper is to define karst topography as it appears in the United States, to illustrate
how natural chemical processes facilitate sinkhole development, and to present a brief overview of
how modern geotechnical and hydrogeological specialists are attempting to solve the sinkhole
problem through innovative engineering design and land study. Ultimately, the goal from an
engineering perspective is to understand karst and sinkholes on a fundamental level so that a variety of
case by case solutions may be made available to keep the public safe. This is certainly one geological
problem where the stakes are high, and humankind is competing against the very ground it stands
upon. The question is: Will filling holes in engineering knowledge translate to preventing sinkholes
from causing any more damage than they already have?
KARST The karst terrain which creates the geomorphic conditions for sinkholes is a broad topic in the
field of geology, and encompasses the study of groundwater, drainage, chemical processes, and many
other considerations. Essentially, karst regions are located where the rock below the earth can be
dissolved by the acidic groundwater which percolates through it (The Science of Sinkholes). These
areas are underlain by soluble rocks such as gypsum, limestone, and dolomite which typically react
with carbonic acid (H2CO3) from groundwater to dissolve the rock. Presence of limestone is

Civil Rights Movement
Introduction: This paper is about the blacks wanting equal rights like the whites have. Then everything
gets out of hand. The fire truck hoses get used on people, the k 9 dogs go attack the people, people go

blacks only and whites only signs from the bathroom and drinking fountains. Blacks now can use any
bathroom and drinking fountain they want. The SCLC launched Project C (for Birmingham), April 3,
1963. On April 6, police arrested forty five protesters going from Sixteenth Street Baptist Church to
city hall. The next day, more people were arrested. Due to this happening two police dogs attacked a
nineteen year old. Judge W.A. Jenkins, Jr., made an order preventing one hundred thirty three of the
city s civil rights leaders, to organize demonstrations. But the Project C plan got King arrested on
April 12. After a few hours King told his staff,he didn t know what to do and that something had to
change in Birmingham. He said he didn t know if he could make enough money if any at all to get
people out of jail. But, he did agree to go to jail with them since he couldn t get the money. King was
arrested and put in solitary confinement. In jail he read an ad in the Birmingham News, that called him

Women In Athens Research Paper
The great city state of Athens was established around 3000 B.C¹ and was named after the Greek
goddess of wisdom and military victory, Athena. The Athenian empire lasted until its defeat in the
Peloponnesian war in 404 B.C², but despite its defeat Athens is still the capital of modern day Greece.
Greece is considered to be the cradle of western civilization, but the city in Greece that most lives up
to that claim is Athens as it was the home of democracy, philosophy, and free thinking. Although some
would argue that Sparta was the greater city state do to its skilled army and progressive views in
respect to women, Athens also had a strong army and the strongest navy in the ancient world, one that
was used to drive out the Persians and protect all of Greece⁴. In spite of the fact that women did not
have the same liberties as Athenian men, women were still valued by the Athenians and were
considered to be an important part of society, especially when it came to religion. According to the
World History textbook: Athen Evolves Into a Democracy Women in Athens , Women participating in

Reaction Mechanism Procedure Modification of this procedure was made from its original version.
The solid maleic anhydride was hydrolyzed by mixing 0.19g of the solid with 0.3ml of water. The
mixture was boiling for 10 minutes until the solids were dissolved, and cool it to room temperature.

NFL Salary Cap Analysis
Salary caps in my opinion are bad for players, but worse for rookies. When the salary cap was
reintroduced to the NFL s CBA in 2011 it got stricter for rookies. According to Forbes they state that
the goal was to create parity for and not allow a limited number of NFL owners to dramatically
outspend others (Forbes). The new CBA took bonuses away from rookies and given to veterans. With
a salary cap if a player for example a quarterback has a large contract and take up most of the cap
space then a backup quarterback would get paid a lot less because there isn t that much space left in
the cap to give them the same contract because they have to spend that amount on other players and

perception of an organism. The biological institution of an organism can even enhance or degrade the

Q3) Is the nature of sense perception such that, as Huxley suggests, sensations are essentially private
and incommunicable?
Ans Firstly I can give no definite answer towards this query for I have no idea by which Huxley based
something as definable as to be a symbol. Though by symbol I define that as something as perhaps as
an object or book perhaps. Though he says that it is incommunicable at second hand so that means one
may express ones own sensations perceptions etc through symbols but for it to be able to be directly
expressed seems like a colossal/herculean or rather impossible task. The symbols meant by Huxley
may be something by which represents an specific inclination towards something individual may
express oneself perhaps an article of specific clothing support towards for example a band. Sensations
an individual owns are I believe essentially private but I believe can be communicable. An example of
this can be taken in the very context of TOK which essentially teaches us to broaden our horizons and
in many cases we have to describe our own perceptions. The world is rather made up

WASP Stereotypes Of Southern Italian Immigrants

welcomed hopeful immigrants from overseas, and provided them with opportunities that would give
them better lives for themselves and their families. While such a statement is technically true in
general, the issues in regards to prejudice and racism, is where the metaphor weakens for America as a
beacon of hope for immigrants. Many people today believe that Americans have always embraced and
encouraged the melting pot concept. However, WASP stereotypes of immigrants were the driving

They even created shrines within their homes for particular Saints, so they could pray properly in
absence of a church. The church and government gave the Southern Italians deep trust issues when it
comes to institutions and people outside of their family and village. The family became the most
important institution in Southern Italy, and this belief carried over with them to The United States. The
WASPs viewed the Southern Italians opposition to religious institutions as disrespectful and anti
religious. In the eyes of WASPs, the Southern Italians antagonistic attitude towards church was worse
than the fact that they were Catholics. A difference in religion was cause for dislike, but an absence of
religious practices, or so they thought, was immoral.
One of the biggest stereotypes depicting Southern Italians as immoral is the idea that they are all
affiliated with the Mafia. This WASP belief was formed based on a .0025% of truth. An extremely
small population of the Southern Italians engaged in organized crime. However, WASPs believed that
all organized crime was run by Italians, and that all Southern Italians were involved or connected with
the crimes in some way. The Italian way of closeness of family and exclusiveness of anyone who was

Atomic Number Is A Correct Answer
Atomic number, is a correct answer. Atomic number is the total number of proton of the element.
(Gilbert, 2012) It is always used to differentiate the elements since every element have their unique
atomic number. The differences of atomic number enabled elements to react with other substances
differently. For example, Neon which have atomic number of 8, acts like an inert gas. Meanwhile
group 1 element Sodium which have atomic number of 11, reacts vigorously with water. Such
characteristic have made elements unique from each other.
Choice C. Mass number, is an incorrect answer. Mass number is the total number of proton and
neutron of the element. The unit for mass number is atomic mass unit(amu) or Dalton(Da). (Brand,
2013) The presence of isotopes might cause two elements to have the same atomic weight. For

The ability to differentiate elements through atomic numbers is helpful in real world. The elements are

the atomic number of the element. The elements in the same group always have similar chemical

Jcpenney Case Summary
I believe the overall alignment among the elements of consistency is well structured, JC Penney
addresses their vision, mission, and goals and implement the strategy to accomplish these goals.
Whether these strategies will be successful only time will tell us because there are risks and
uncertainty that can turn a good strategy into a disastrous. The alignments among the elements of
consistency, I believe is an ok fit because JC Penney s strategy and the capabilities can be done
internally, but when compared to the competition there still much work to be done to stand out against
the competitions. The mission and vision are aligned with the strategy of the firm for the long term
success. To be successful, some gaps need to be addressed. The question to be asked is the strategy
successful to help the company differentiate from the competition. ... Show more content on

Capabilities in service delivery are important for business because nowadays everybody wants their
order as fast as possible. The ability to ship their merchandise as quickly as they can give them an
edge. However, that certainly doesn t make them competitive because every industry is using the same
method of fast delivery. I believe this capability does align with the strategy, but it does not make
them stand out from the competitions The ability to expand its product focus like home services can
give them an edge against the competitor like Macy s, kohl s, but I believe JC Penney still facing
competition from the home Depot, Lowes for the home services. Also, bringing a new clientele to the
market is a good strategy, but JC Penney needs to have appealing brands to keep them coming to the
store. Expanding to e commerce could be the live safer of JC Penney, but JC Penney still needs to

Challenges Of Being A Law Enforcement Officer
Hi, Billy, what you discussed made me think about the challenges that Law Enforcement Officers are
facing as far as recruiting, and retention have its completion. There are a growing number of private
armed security companies that s provided jobs to individuals who may qualify as a law enforcement
officer. The standards are so high that judgmental prosecution question a unique ability for a person
who provides safety to the public. It makes you wonder if security companies are performing a federal

W. E. B. Du Bois s Criticism Of Claude Mckay ´ S Home To...
Among the critical responses to Home to Harlem, W.E.B. Du Bois s criticism of Claude McKay s text
seemingly speaks from an essentialist perspective. Du Bois simply found that McKay s representation
of black culture within his novel reproduced stereotypical and crude images which white audiences
desired in the midst of the Harlem Renaissance. In response to Du Bois, McKay argued that the novel
was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of Claude McKay s views, it could
be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity at all. Rather, Home to Harlem s
perpetual mobility and movement invests in the idea of black identity as production rather than as the
exhibition of a collective one true self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Had Felice not offered up Chicago as a new place of residence, Jake would have wound up exactly
how he d started, having been thinking a gitting away from the stinking mess [of Harlem], a place he d
previously designated as home, to go on off to the sea again (McKay 322). Throughout the text, Jake
frequents a variety of unique places, from Harlem to Pittsburgh to Brooklyn to the train in which he
had taken [a] job on the railroad (McKay 125). McKay s audience is privy to a plethora of details
regarding Jake s rousing endeavors in every new location he discovers. Home to Harlem s audience
watches as that strange, elusive something in Jake catches him and has him [roaming] away and
wandering to some unknown new port, caught ... by some romantic rhythm, color, face, passing
through cabarets, saloons, speakeasies, and so on; in short, the emphasis on Jake s travels is on his
restlessness in his desire for movement rather than a search for some inner truth he may hold (McKay
41). Thus, the picaresque novel employment of the episodic form is vital for Home to Harlem as it
allows for the motif of movement to be used for its potential. Not only that, though, but it can easily
be inferred that Claude McKay designed his novel to be structured in such a way with a degree of
intentionality. For whatever reason, McKay understood that an episodic format was the best to display
Jake s story. Thus, his audience must

Introduction
Information technology is transforming how business and government enterprises operate and, as a

Wings Macklemore Analysis
Reading Response 5 Title of text: Wings Text type: Song Author: Macklemore The song Wings by
Macklemore is about how people identify through the means of consumerism. It also discusses the
fleeting happiness that is intrinsically linked to the almighty power of the purchase. The song is based
on shoes, but it Macklemore aims to paint a broader picture of being a consumer by using his own
experiences of retail infused desire. In the music wings by Macklemore, he preaches against

They feel that the brand is the only way they can identify themselves. With this song I think
Macklemore is trying say that we need to dissect our attachment to brands and logos and the happiness
that is associated with the purchasing of these expensive brands. With this song I think he is trying to
take away the strong connection between bands and being cool . The section of lyrics in the song; my
friend Carlos brother got murdered for his fours, whoa Macklemore uses this metaphor to show how
Carlos brother got totally ripped apart by his peers because his basketball shoes weren t cool or the
right brand. We are so stuck in the world of consumerism and the need to buy things to be able to
relate with others. I can relate to this because on a daily basis I see people get judged by what they
wear and what the own (material goods) rather than them as a person. When Macklemore wrote this
song he hoped to spread awareness of this problem so that it could be stopped. I also agree with
Macklemore that this needs to be stopped and that by spreading awareness of this issue it could
happen. I believe that Macklemore is very smart by using the fame he has gained in a positive way by
helping to spread awareness. I think that year 12s can learn

Japan for a while has been displaying fashion that intrigues us and influences us in many ways and
what people don t know is that of these fashions there are different communities and subcultures of
fashion that these people in the pictures conform to. Japan has a vast array of street fashion styles and

cultures vary from the tan skinned Ganguro girls to the victorian styled Lolitas. One of the most

Richard IIi As A Historic Play
Richard III is literarily known as a historic play. This play portrays historical events, such as when the
play opens, Edward IV has become re crowned. This play represents 14 years of events which is
condensed into about 14 days. There are ultimately elements of tragedy and comedy throughout this
play and many of which these elements seem unusual to this documented event in history. The first
factor that is revealed that makes this play not entirely a historic retelling is that Shakespeare makes it
his own. The events are exaggerated and many fictional elements are involved. Curses and other
supernatural elements are mentioned throughout the play. Firstly, curses are represented through
Queen Margaret, old widow of King Henry VI. Her late husband was pushed from the throne by
Richard s family so that Edward IV could be crowned king; Richard also killed her son. Her lonely
mumbles as she sulks around the castle are curses that she sets. In Act 1, Scene 3, Margaret calls on
the power of divine justice and states many things that later come true, some of these include that
King Edward IV should die; Queen Margaret should outlive her children and be made to see a woman
crowned queen; Richard should be betrayed by his friends; Rivers, Dorset and Hastings should die
young; Richard should have a nightmare filled sleep. Richard says that Margaret s cursing is the
talking of a hateful, bitter hag (1.3.16) and after these curses come true, Queen Elizabeth asks, O thou

Essay on The Development of Afro-Brazilian Religions
The origin of Afro Brazilian religions is traced back to the Atlantic slave trade that took place in the
16th century . Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West African
communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they were sold as
slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led to the
development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The religions did
not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government that recognized
the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship in their own

molecular structure of glycogen. This molecular glycogenic structure (diagram) will be embedded into
the body of the essay, together with the explanation of this molecular structure. Specific reference will
be made to the polisaccharide characteristics thereof and will indicate the relation between different
sub divisions of the structure and how, where and why they are bonded together. The function of
glycogen will be discussed and the impact of glycogen on a healthy life will be explained. Finally, the
complications associated with a glycogen imbalance in the body, with specific reference to Glycogen
Storage Disease (GSD) Type I and Type II, and the impact on a healthy body will be discussed.
Glycogen is a multi branched polysaccharide and is utilized as energy storage. Glycogen is a polymer
of α glucose and is often referred to as animal starch as it is the principal storage carbohydrate in
animals. Glycogen is found in the liver and skeletal muscle. Its molecular structure is very similar to
that of amylopectin shown herewith, but with many more 1 6 α branches. Most of the glucose residues
in glycogen are linked by α 1,4 glycosidic bonds. With most branches, approximately every tenth
residue is created by α 1,6 glycosidic bond. The molecular formula for Glycogen is C24H42O21.

Modern And Modern Software Project Management
Introduction Alternative approaches to management developed over the years are extremely important
to modern software project management, although new approaches are needed to deal with some of
the toughest challenges. According to experts, the popular interest in management as a discipline and a
field of study is fairly recent. But management, both as a practice and as a field of study, has a
respectable history, in many different countries, going back almost two centuries. (Drucker 2008,
p.12). Modern approaches to management were developed in the USA after World War II which are
now taught in colleges and universities. The four classic functions about management one may learn
in school are: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (Nelson Economy 2005, p. 5). More
functions need to be added to the list of skills for acquiring in the process of learning about project
management aspects. Project management challenges can be viewed from a process perspective and
many experts such as McFarland (1970) highlighted this view. Management is the process by which
managers create, direct, maintain and operate purposive, organizations though systematic,
coordinated, cooperative human effort (McFarland 1970, p. 5). Because projects are transient, their
delivery follows a development process, from germination of the idea, through initiation, design and
delivery, to commissioning, handover to the client and closeout of the work. (Turner 2014, p. 5)

Descriptive Essay On The Day In The House
November air wisped past my ivory skin as I strolled through the neighborhood. I stepped off of the
cracked sidewalk so I could turn on to the next street, but a seven foot tall metal pole with an octagon
challenged me at the sharp corner. The top of the vibrant red sign had an emerald rectangle attached to
it that read S BARWICK PL in white text with the same colored border. The word STOP that was

direction of home, there was a strip of woods that was protected by a wall of briars.
With every soft step as I approached the leaf filled ditch, my low top Converse kissed the road s

the pavement. They flew up with every shuffling movement I made in attempts to avoid the prickle of
thorns. I was hypnotised by peaceful nature surrounding me. Blissful serenity was soon interrupted by
a breeze that tousled my hair and nipped at the high points of my face. Chilled air climbed through my

The History and Future of Zoos Essay
Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural
wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role
of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on
preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos
started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
The concepts of zoos have been around for centuries throughout the world. The earliest known zoo of

It took nearly two hundred years for agriculture to get used to American soil and its wildlife.
Author Vernon Kisling, of Zoo and aquarium history: ancient animal collections to zoological gardens

Social Stratification and Class Essay
Today in the United States, we read in the newspapers constantly about the state of classes in our
country. For instance, it is often said at tax time that the Federal budget is balanced on the backs of the
middle class. To people in the lower class, the promise is held that in a capitalist society, by working
hard you can lift yourself out of the lower income bracket to join the middle class. Entrepreneurs who
can find a need and fill it can make it into the upper class. The point is that this kind of thinking, a
product of social stratification theory, is ingrained upon our minds. As a society, we accept it as a fact
that we live in a multi tiered class system, and that this is the way it should be because it is ... Show

An example of a social stratification model can be made of the Feudal System, with a dominant
nobility (betters). Barons were at the upper strata, higher than the knights, who were at a lower strata.
The subjected masses (lessers) were serfs and peasants; undoubtedly some were more clever and
successful than others who occupied a lower strata. Another model would be the current United States,
where the social strata starts with the upper upper class, the upper class, the upper middle class, and so
on down to the poor, or lower lower class. In highly detailed social stratification models, trends and
analyses are very complex. An excellent example of this is The Process of Stratification: Trends and
Analyses by Robert Hauser and David Featherman. The many pages of tables and detailed analysis are
exceedingly difficult to comprehend, which makes them difficult to use. A model of social
stratification is a snapshot in time which details the society as it exists at that time. In The Persistence
of Social Inequality in America, John Dalphin states that social stratification suggests that a society
has divisions, cleavages, or splits within it. More specifically, it means that a society is divided into

Case Study Of Bain Company
1 Introduction
The global consulting industry has generated $240 billion revenues in 2015 and as such represents one
of the largest markets within the professional services industry (Consultancy.uk, n.d.). Even if strategy
consulting constitutes solely 12% market share (i.e., $28.8 billion) it is the most prestigious sector
(Consultancy.uk, n.d.). While other sectors of the consulting industry can be delineated rather easily,
strategy consulting occupies a special position. Companies of that sector not solely provide strategy
consulting services, but consulting services of other sectors alike, however from a purely strategic
point of view. Upon closer inspection of the strategy consulting industry, it becomes apparent that the
market is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the former constitutes the functional positioning of its organizational units, the latter describes a
pattern of shared basic assumptions that was learned by a group as it solved its problems of external
adaptation and internal integration, that has worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore,
to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those
problems (Schein, 2004, p. 17).
Due to the characteristics of the business model of strategy consulting, Bain Company s organizational
structure differs significantly from other industries. Although there is a global, albeit confidential,
organizational structure, Bain Company is primarily structured by office whose organizational units
are exhibited in Figure 1. Directed by Office Management, the organizational structure on office level
is divided into two main pillars: Consulting Staff and Consulting Support Services (Bain Company
Inc., n.d. l). While consulting employees are generally not split across the various consulting services
(see Chapter 2.3.1), the particular dynamics of private equity consulting require a temporary
separation of those selected consulting employees. Furthermore, although Executive/Manager
Assistants constitute a consulting support service, the daily interaction with their assigned managers,
principals, and partners (the latter two represent executive organizational levels) creates a strong link
between these organizational

Inherit The Wind Quotes
In the play, Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the character of Bertram Cates
causes the most amount of conflict and impact on his society. He teaches about evolution, so he starts
the heated argument on his punishment, and how he impacted the people with his actions
In the beginning of the play Inherit the Wind, the character of Cates causes much conflict by teaching
to his class of students about Darwin s theory of evolution in the little town of Hillsboro. Back when
this play actually happened on the exact date of July 21, 1925, in America, it was illegal to teach
public schools about Darwin s theory of evolution. But Bertram Cates decided to take matters into his
own hands and teach it to his students. As it says on Scene 1, Act 1, Cates confesses, I had the book in
my hand, I opened it up, and read my sophomore science class Chapter 17, Darwin s Origin of
Species. Therefore, he was challenged by the god of lawyers, lawyer and temporary Colonel Matthew
Harrison Brady to fight for Hillsboro, a God loving county, against him. But Cates has his own titan to
fight for him, lawyer and also temporary Colonel Henry Drummond. In act 1, scene one, E.K
Hornbeck states, And the most agile mind of the Twentieth Century, Henry Drummond. This quote
shows that Matthew Harrison Brady has his work cut out for him, a reporter says how mighty
Drummond will be. So this would have to a extremely heated court about what should happen to
Cates. And it happened. A 2 day trial containing yelling, a judge with an actual gavel, and even the
press showed up because of the significance of this court. The court has swirled the boiling pot of
conflict within the city of Hillsboro, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Irony in the Works of Kate Chopin and Guy De Maupassant
Outline and Thesis Introduction Thesis: In the end of the each story, the woman is wholly undone by
the society in which she lives; she is destroyed when she is unable to live up to the ideal of
womanhood that her society dictates. The irony that serves the end of each story is the final blow,
which undoes the woman and finishes her life. Paragraph 1: Story of an Hour as unhappy marriage
Paragraph 2: ironic twist in Story of an Hour Paragraph 3: reason for Louis Mallard s death Paragraph
4: irony as the cause of death Paragraph 5: The Necklace summary/analysis Paragraph 6: conflict and
irony Paragraph 7: result of ironic twist Conclusion: Irony in Chopin and Maupassant Irony is a
literary device wherein what the reader expects to occur does not and the events that transpire are
wholly surprising. Authors throughout literary history have used this devise to surprise and entertain
the reader. Kate Chopin and Guy de Maupassant both utilize irony in their respective short stories The
Story of an Hour and The Necklace. In each story a woman who is believed to be happy in the role of
a proper Victorian and thus subservient female but ironically proves herself to be something other than
the ideal woman of that society and instead is something altogether different. Both Louise Mallard and
Mathilde Loisel belong to a period where woman was to be seen and not heard, to follow the will of
their husbands and to suffer any unhappiness in silence. In the end

  • 2. The Life Of Bob Dylan The Life of Bob Dylan Bob Dylan is often considered to be one of the greatest and most influential musicians of all time. He has released 36 albums, and has amassed a huge following of music lovers. His songs have ranged from poetic folk songs that discuss social issues of the 1960s, to covers of very famous songs recorded with his own stylistic twist. He was one of the first rock artists whose lyrics were considered to be on par with works of literature (1)He has also been one of the only artists, to this day, that has been able to consistently affect listeners of any generation. For over 5 decades, he has remained a dominant musician in the American recording arts and he will remain such for decades to come. Bob Dylan was born as Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota on May 24, 1941. He grew up nearby in the small town of Hibbing, Minnesota. It was there, in Hibbing, where he learned to play guitar and set the foundation for his successful music career. Dylan attended Hibbing High School where he formed a band called The Golden Chords, which covered songs from the likes of Elvis Presley and Little Richard (2). The Golden Chords never achieved mainstream success and disbanded after the members graduated high school. After high school, Dylan (whose legal name at this time was still Robert Zimmerman) attended the University of Minnesota. While there, he began performing at local coffee houses under the name Bob Dylan. He eventually decided college wasn t for him and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not until later did movies become less biased, especially when talking about Vietnam. The Ugly American, directed by George Englund, and The Green Berets, directed by John Wayne, are no exceptions. The Green Berets propose a strong support for the war while The Ugly American tended to blame the United States for being in an unnecessary war. Nevertheless, while both movies differ strongly in their views, both tend to convey the horrors of war. The Green Berets was a movie that continuously encouraged its audience to prolong the Vietnam War. Just as the movie begins, a scene takes place that sets the stage for the rest of the movie. A ... The local Vietnamese explain they do not want Freedom Road because it will bring the Cold War to Vietnam (Ugly American, The). Having both perspectives allowed the director to influence his viewers using two concepts. Even Deong rallies against the Americans as the movie continues toward its inevitable conclusion. He willingly allows the communist protesters to attack MacWhite to try to stall America s imperialist efforts (Ugly American, The). It appears that nearly every person tried to condemn the Vietnam War as a burden on everyone. The Ugly American differs from The Green Berets because it criticizes the Vietnam War rather than sympathizing with it. Although there are many disparities between the two movies, both agree that war, whether Vietnamese or not, is never pleasurable. For instance, The Green Berets broke from its morals near the end of the movie. Notably, Sergeant Petersen dies despite the fact that an observer might think the war then too costly to continue (Green Berets, The). Even though the creators and producers of The Green Berets wanted their audience to believe war was just, they also agreed it was costly. Deong s death has a very similar perspective and again contradicts itself. With Deong s death a viewer may imagine that the hero they came to know died needlessly (Ugly American, The). Assessment of the Native American Experience from 1925 1975 Throughout the 1925 1975 period, the Native American population of the United States has faced many obstacles. Just a few years before, they had been suppressed by the federal government s Anti Long Hair policy for all Native American males. This would set the stage for future cultural restraint on the Indians. However, they continued to fight for equality. However, there were still other issues that needed to be solved during this time. The most important issues were those of social rights, self autonomy, and cultural freedom. These were, however, more difficult tasks. Congress played the primary role in these situations because of its legislature regarding Native American tribes. Public Law 280, passed in August of 1953, gave power to the states to take over civil and criminal jurisdiction. Because of this, the tribes were at a loss in authority to regulate themselves. In addition, President Lyndon B. Johnson urged for the termination of Indian programs for self determination during his term in 1968. • 6. Implementing Fixed Patient For Nurse Ratios Implementing Fixed Patient to Nurse Ratios in High Volume High Acuity Settings Striving for excellent patient care is the cornerstone of nursing. However, delivery of innovative care requires nurses to take initiative in finding issues and concerns in current clinical practices to promote change that leads to optimal patient outcomes. One current issue in clinical practice is the varying patient to nurse ratios (PNRs) amongst different hospitals (Aiken et al., 2012). Having high PNRs may lead to nurse burnout, medical errors, and ineffective nursing care (Aiken et al., 2012; Karavasiliadou Athanasakis, 2014). The solution would be to regulate PNRs, especially in areas such as the emergency room. To initiate this change, a task force would have to be established to use current data and research as evidence to propose the change, implement the change and evaluate its effectiveness. Change Model Overview The Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence Based Practice (JHNEBP) process can be used to facilitate change. This process serves as a guideline to access, combine, and implement research into nursing practice. According to Dearholt and Dang (2012), the JHNEBP is an 18 step process that occurs in three phases. Phase one of the JHNEBP contains steps 1 through 5 and can be summarized as the practice question phase where the issue is identified (Dearholt Dang, 2012). This was unfortunately the case in 2013, when Florida native Jeff Bush became the victim of a tragic geologic event that left many Americans wondering if they were truly ever standing on solid ground (Sinkhole Swallows Florida Man). Bush, and a large portion of his suburban home, was swallowed up by a sudden sinkhole as his brother looked on in horror, trying in vain to rescue him as he was forced deeper underground. Ultimately, the goal from an engineering perspective is to understand karst and sinkholes on a fundamental level so that a variety of case by case solutions may be made available to keep the public safe. This is certainly one geological problem where the stakes are high, and humankind is competing against the very ground it stands upon. The question is: Will filling holes in engineering knowledge translate to preventing sinkholes from causing any more damage than they already have? KARST The karst terrain which creates the geomorphic conditions for sinkholes is a broad topic in the field of geology, and encompasses the study of groundwater, drainage, chemical processes, and many other considerations. Essentially, karst regions are located where the rock below the earth can be dissolved by the acidic groundwater which percolates through it (The Science of Sinkholes). Du Bois s criticism of Claude McKay s text seemingly speaks from an essentialist perspective. Du Bois simply found that McKay s representation of black culture within his novel reproduced stereotypical and crude images which white audiences desired in the midst of the Harlem Renaissance. In response to Du Bois, McKay argued that the novel was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of Claude McKay s views, it could be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity at all. Rather, Home to Harlem s perpetual mobility and movement invests in the idea of black identity as production rather than as the exhibition of a collective one true self ... Throughout the text, Jake frequents a variety of unique places, from Harlem to Pittsburgh to Brooklyn to the train in which he had taken [a] job on the railroad (McKay 125). McKay s audience is privy to a plethora of details regarding Jake s rousing endeavors in every new location he discovers. Thus, the picaresque novel employment of the episodic form is vital for Home to Harlem as it allows for the motif of movement to be used for its potential. Not only that, though, but it can easily be inferred that Claude McKay designed his novel to be structured in such a way with a degree of intentionality. For whatever reason, McKay understood that an episodic format was the best to display Jake s story. Thus, his audience must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This play represents 14 years of events which is condensed into about 14 days. There are ultimately elements of tragedy and comedy throughout this play and many of which these elements seem unusual to this documented event in history. The first factor that is revealed that makes this play not entirely a historic retelling is that Shakespeare makes it his own. The events are exaggerated and many fictional elements are involved. Curses and other supernatural elements are mentioned throughout the play. Firstly, curses are represented through Queen Margaret, old widow of King Henry VI. Her late husband was pushed from the throne by Richard s family so that Edward IV could be crowned king; Richard also killed her son. Her lonely mumbles as she sulks around the castle are curses that she sets. In Act 1, Scene 3, Margaret calls on the power of divine justice and states many things that later come true, some of these include that King Edward IV should die; Queen Margaret should outlive her children and be made to see a woman crowned queen; Richard should be betrayed by his friends; Rivers, Dorset and Hastings should die young; Richard should have a nightmare filled sleep. Modern And Modern Software Project Management Introduction Alternative approaches to management developed over the years are extremely important to modern software project management, although new approaches are needed to deal with some of the toughest challenges. According to experts, the popular interest in management as a discipline and a field of study is fairly recent. But management, both as a practice and as a field of study, has a respectable history, in many different countries, going back almost two centuries. (Drucker 2008, p.12). Modern approaches to management were developed in the USA after World War II which are now taught in colleges and universities. • 45. Case Study Of Bain Company 1 Introduction The global consulting industry has generated $240 billion revenues in 2015 and as such represents one of the largest markets within the professional services industry (Consultancy.uk, n.d.). Even if strategy consulting constitutes solely 12% market share (i.e., $28.8 billion) it is the most prestigious sector (Consultancy.uk, n.d.). While other sectors of the consulting industry can be delineated rather easily, strategy consulting occupies a special position. Companies of that sector not solely provide strategy consulting services, but consulting services of other sectors alike, however from a purely strategic point of view. Upon closer inspection of the strategy consulting industry, it becomes apparent that the market is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the former constitutes the functional positioning of its organizational units, the latter describes a pattern of shared basic assumptions that was learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration, that has worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore, to be taught to new members as the correct way to perceive, think, and feel in relation to those problems (Schein, 2004, p. 17). Due to the characteristics of the business model of strategy consulting, Bain Company s organizational structure differs significantly from other industries. Although there is a global, albeit confidential, organizational structure, Bain Company is primarily structured by office whose organizational units are exhibited in Figure 1. Directed by Office Management, the organizational structure on office level is divided into two main pillars: Consulting Staff and Consulting Support Services (Bain Company Inc., n.d. l). While consulting employees are generally not split across the various consulting services (see Chapter 2.3.1), the particular dynamics of private equity consulting require a temporary separation of those selected consulting employees. Furthermore, although Executive/Manager Assistants constitute a consulting support service, the daily interaction with their assigned managers, principals, and partners (the latter two represent executive organizational levels) creates a strong link between these organizational ... He teaches about evolution, so he starts the heated argument on his punishment, and how he impacted the people with his actions In the beginning of the play Inherit the Wind, the character of Cates causes much conflict by teaching to his class of students about Darwin s theory of evolution in the little town of Hillsboro. Back when this play actually happened on the exact date of July 21, 1925, in America, it was illegal to teach public schools about Darwin s theory of evolution. But Bertram Cates decided to take matters into his own hands and teach it to his students. As it says on Scene 1, Act 1, Cates confesses, I had the book in my hand, I opened it up, and read my sophomore science class Chapter 17, Darwin s Origin of Species. Therefore, he was challenged by the god of lawyers, lawyer and temporary Colonel Matthew Harrison Brady to fight for Hillsboro, a God loving county, against him. But Cates has his own titan to fight for him, lawyer and also temporary Colonel Henry Drummond. In act 1, scene one, E.K Hornbeck states, And the most agile mind of the Twentieth Century, Henry Drummond. This quote shows that Matthew Harrison Brady has his work cut out for him, a reporter says how mighty Drummond will be. So this would have to a extremely heated court about what should happen to Cates. And it happened. A 2 day trial containing yelling, a judge with an actual gavel, and even the press showed up because of the significance of this court. The court has swirled the boiling pot of conflict within the city of Hillsboro, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
