Combined cycle power plants (CCPP) consume one-third less natural gas and carbon dioxide per generated kilowatt-hour compared to other power plant technologies. CCPPs allow electricity to be generated from the heat produced from natural gas combustion in a more efficient way. While natural gas is more versatile than coal and oil, its quantities are limited and transportation is costly. France aims to modernize its electricity production by building more CCPPs to reduce waste and emissions, as natural gas currently only accounts for 1% of its electrical production compared to over 35% in other European countries.
