Exploring the Level of Computer Literacy for Candidates in Higher Education: ...Dr. Amarjeet Singh
Bahrain Polytechnic is a Higher Education technical institution established in 2008 (by Royal Decree No. 65 for the year 2008). Its main mission is to supply the Bahraini economy with a skilled Bahraini labour force aiming to contribute to economic growth and diversification. The Polytechnic ensures that its values of excellence, learning and innovation are achieved by designing curricula that meet international standards as well as national and individual needs through continuous consultations with the industries and international education institutions. The development of computer and technological literacy is a significant predictor for success in the workplace and is also one of the key skills that the polytechnic provides through its programmes to students and faculty. This paper explores how computer literacy and skills are acquired by educators and students through International Computer Driving License (ICDL) tools employed at Bahrain Polytechnic. The study also considers the challenges that hinder learners from completing the requirements of ICDL. If adequate numbers of faculty and students have already learned basic computer skills, then the question facing the polytechnic is if computer literacy should continue to be taught at all levels. To answer this question, ICDL tests were administered to ascertain the computer literacy level of existing faculty and students. The results of the tests will determine which ICDL tests students and faculty should be placed on in order to address their computer literacy needs.

TO INCREASE FEMALE LABOUR FORCE PARTICIPATION S.T. Seelan
The sectors spearheading this challenge are estate labour (on the tea plantations etc.), the garment industry and Middle East foreign employment. These are all sectors dominated by female labour. 52% of the population is women and they are considered to be the backbone of the Sri Lankan economy.
Sri Lanka faces shortages of skilled labor that is hampering growth in key industries like tourism, construction, and technology. The shortage is due to younger workers being unwilling to take jobs in industries with unstable wages, poor working conditions, and a mismatch between the skills needed and those available. This labor shortage increases costs for employers and can cause delays and lower quality work. Possible solutions include retaining older workers longer, improving recruitment and benefits to attract workers, and better aligning education programs with the skills needed for the country's economic goals.
Ensure the effective contributions of foreign employment into the economic de...S.T. Seelan
This document discusses strategies for maximizing the contributions of foreign employment to Sri Lanka's economic development. It notes that over 1 million Sri Lankans, or 24% of the labor force, work abroad, sending home $6 billion in remittances annually. However, most migrants are low-skilled, while demand is for higher skills. It proposes improving technical/vocational education to build skills in demand internationally. Strategies include increasing the quality and relevance of higher education programs, developing soft skills and new academic programs, and raising awareness of career options to encourage more women into certain fields. Policies should involve stakeholders and be responsive to different sectors and their gender characteristics.

Micro Finance Associated with the provision of small loans to the poorS.T. Seelan
Microfinance involves providing small loans to the poor. It has developed from microcredit programs and now offers a broader range of financial services like savings, insurance, and money transfers. These services are provided to customers who are typically excluded from formal financial systems. For microfinance institutions to be viable and self-sufficient, they must focus on assessing repayment capacity rather than just credit needs. Financial viability also allows institutions access to capital markets through equity investment, savings mobilization, and commercial funding. Current discussions emphasize the need for sustainability and large-scale outreach through permanent, viable institutions that serve customer demand, while also ensuring the poorest members benefit.

8. Strategy to meet the second objective
The following outlines the strategy to produce 500 data science technicians
annually through a one year course.
As far as possible the data science technicians course will be modeled after the
Ceylon-German Technical Training Institute, commonly known as the German
Tech and will be aligned to the UGC Sri Lanka Qualification Framework.
Industry collaboration will be solicited in formulating the syllabus for this course.
Through this process a binding commitment will be secured from industry to
provide employment for those who are successful in completing the course.
Educational and training programs will be created for those who wish to extend
their education after a reasonable period in employment. These opportunities
will consist of additional courses aligned to the SLQF framework enabling
participants to progressively study towards a degree qualification and beyond.
All public and private universities in Sri Lanka will be invited to participate in this
initiative with the major thrust expected from SLIIT.
Admission for the course will be based on three GCE A Level passes with
Mathematics and Physics
