Culture is a universal aspect of human life that is learned, shared, and transmitted through language. It includes the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, and habits of a society. Culture is a set of common beliefs and values shared by a group that shapes how they perceive, think, communicate, and evaluate. While cultural patterns change over time, language and culture are closely related. Technology can both positively and negatively impact the culture of a classroom, so teachers should thoughtfully integrate it. Educators must develop cultural competence to understand students' values without imposing their own and foster home-school connections for English Learners to promote language development.
