Despite global effort it is estimated that about 2.2 billion people still live in poverty, and that approximately 80 of this figure is made up of people living in rural areas. The Sustainable Development Goals SDGs of the 2030 Agenda include as its number 1 goal, the goal to end poverty. However, the report by the World Bank 2018 stated that putting an end to poverty is proving to be one of the greatest human rights challenges the modern world faces. The Sustainable Development Goals SDGs which are an extension of the Millennium Development Goals MDGs was adopted on September 2015 by the United Nations Assembly to fight against poverty and eradicate human deprivation. This paper presents a brief introduction on poverty laws, discusses possible challenges and the way forward. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
Â
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Relative poverty views;
ī poverty as socially defined and dependent on social context,
hence relative poverty is a measure of income inequality.
ī Over 40 million people in the United States lived in relative
poverty as of 2012.
ī The term relative poverty can also be used in a different
sense to mean "moderate poverty" â- for example, a
standard of living or level of income that is high enough to
satisfy basic needs but still significantly lower than that of the
majority of the population under consideration.
3/17/2020
12. Relative PovertyâĻ Conti
ī Relative poverty is considered the easiest way to
measure the level of poverty in an individual country
ī Relative poverty is measured as the percentage of
population with income less than some fixed
proportion of median income.

measuring income inequality.
ī If a society gets a more equal income distribution,

ī Voluntary poverty â it could save your life, but itâs a

15. What is Poverty Line?âĻ
ī Poverty line is the minimum level of income believed
adequate.
Poverty line is significantly higher in developed countries than in

out with a revised figure of $1.25.
3/17/2020

have a far greater likelihood of having a disability within
their lifetime as well as Infectious diseases.
3/17/2020
18. HungerâĻ
ī Rises in the costs of living making poor people less able to
afford items.
ī Poor people spend a greater portion of their budgets on
food than richer people. As a result, those near the poverty
threshold can be particularly vulnerable to increases in food
prices.
ī Threats to the supply of food may also be caused by drought
and the water crisis.
3/17/2020
19. EducationâĻ
ī A high risk of educational underachievement for
children who are from low-income housing

autumn 2017 has been put at 4751 sleeping rough on
any one night in England, but this is in all probability a
severe underestimate.

common form of which is prostitution, as a means of survival
and economic desperation.

life.
ī Living in poverty almost always means that the harsh
reality of today will repeat itself tomorrow.
3/17/2020
26. EffectsâĻ
ī Poverty breeds poverty. If one cannot afford proper
nutrition or health care for oneâs family, children grow
up at greater risk of acquiring a life threatening or
disabling disease.
ī If one cannot afford to educate oneâs children, it will be
a repeat of their parentsâ life.
ī If one cannot afford to buy oneâs own land or home or
livestock, there are few opportunities to build assets
that will last over time.
3/17/2020

million subsist below the poverty line.
ī This includes more than half the population in the
forever remote Baluchistan , 33 percent in Sindh, 32
percent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 19 percent in
Punjab.
3/17/2020
