This study evaluated the diuretic activity of the methanolic extract of Eleusine indica in rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into groups that received the extract at doses of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg, furosemide at 10 mg/kg as a standard, or a control. Urine output was measured over 6 hours. The extract significantly increased urine volume and electrolyte excretion compared to the control but less than furosemide. The results suggest the extract has diuretic activity, though further study is needed to understand its mechanisms of action.
