Since pesticide is a major issue in agriculture field. One should focus on pesticide degradation for improving the sustainability of agriculture. In this poster we have shown a strategy of potential nitrogen fixing Bacterial candidates for pesticide degradation.

SUMMARY
Pesticides are one of the synthetic chemical which is increasing
in soil due to its excessive use in agriculture. pesticides enhance
the crop production and economic benefits for a short time but
their over dose usage is highly poisonous and affects the fertility
of soil. They may enter in food chain and causes dangerous effect
on water reservoir, human and animal health. To overcome these
excessive pesticides application several techniques are employed
so far. It would be beneficial if the soil bacteria having the dual
capacity of biological nitrogen fixation with pesticide
degradation activity. There are various xenobiotic mechanisms
which are carried out within microbes to degrade pesticides. Thus
biodegradation of pesticides using nitrogen fixing microbes will
be the promising approach for reducing negative effect of
pesticide on soil fertility as well as crop production.
METHODOLOGY
Soil sample
Isolation of diazotrophs from cereal soil
Tolerant diazotrophs bioprocessing
Growth in formulated xenobiotic media
Degradation studies and metabolites generated
Enzymatic metabolic pathways
Why there is need of pesticide degradation?
• The top five highest pesticide-consuming countries
globally (kg annually) are Italy (63 305 000), Turkey (60
792 400), Colombia (48 618 470), India (40 379 240), and
Japan (36 557 000)
• About two million tones of pesticides are consumed per
year throughout the world and among the 2 million tones,
The usage of pesticide in India is about 0.5 kg/ha of which
major contribution is from organochlorine pesticides and
the consumption of herbicide is the highest
• Major side effects of consistent use of pesticides on
environment are:-
.
Conclusion
At present, Quality of soil is greatly effected by the chemical pesticides and
fertilizers so massive decrease in nitrogen level has been found in past years.
because of all these problems, organic way of fixing nitrogen as well as
degradation of harmful pesticides by the same way is an interesting field of
research. By isolating those bacterial species which are nitrogen fixer as well as
pesticides degrader is like cherry on the cake. So our main prospective and
focus is to isolate and characterize diazotrophs which are having scavenging
activity for pesticides. This will greatly improve the plant as well as soil and
human health.
