1. The masthead is often the company who produces the magazine.
The use of the colour simply matches the genre of the magazine. The
red is a symbolic gesture to horror and blood which is relevant to the
masthead ‘SCREAM’.
The use of the font also matches the genre and the colour. The font
looks like blood is dripping from the text which would appeal to horror
enthusiasts. It shows that it is full gory and blood movies featured
inside.
I can tell that this is the masthead because it is at the top of the page in
a middle alignment and it is bold and large which tells us as the
audience that they are the company and are the main importance.
All combined, the colour, font, layout etc… all suggest that it is a horror
magazine which will contain scenes of blood and gore in certain movies.
The website is in a different colour
compared to the masthead, it is in a
orange/yellow colour which is ironic in my
opinion however, it makes the website link
stand out.
The font looks normal compared the
Masthead which shows that the company
want the website to look identifiable so
the audience can access it. It is a lot
smaller than certain other texts on the
cover which shows that it is not a big
importance.
The strip is there to
make the audience
more appealed to the
magazine. They have
used ‘Blood, guts, gore
and more’ to wheel in
horror enthusiasts.
The colour of the text is
in black on a white strip
which makes it stand
out a lot more and it is
in a slight angle (under
90 degrees) which
makes it look different,
it also makes it look a bit
messy which could be
intentional to the genre
and the text which lays
upon it.
The barcode is
least important
on a magazine
however, the
positioning of the
barcode is on the
bottom right,
which is out of
the way of t he
other images and
text.
The price of the
magazine is
displayed in a
yellow circle which
makes it stand out
a lot, however the
circle is not just
basic, it has
borders around it
which makes it
look more
presentable.
The font is a lot
different from the
masthead, strip
and website etc….
it looks a lot more
professional.
They have
included the UK
price as well as the
US which shows
that they are an
international
magazine
Direct mode of address
is quite important
because, it’s a way to
invite the audience into
the magazine i.e. a direct
approach.
The woman in the poster from REC 3 Genesis is standing straight and frontal with her
hair swept across her face which would make a person who is not the target audience
feel uncomfortable by this direct address.
However, her body and costume is covered in blood which matches it up with the
entire magazine as well as the Masthead and the strip.
2. The main cover line is
often the title of what a
magazine is featuring.
For example; this
magazine is featuring Rec
3 Genesis.
The text is in a large and
simple text. It stands out
because of the size as
well as the colour.
The font colour, white
stands out a lot because
the rest of the magazine
remains dark with a red
and black format.
The Main image of the
magazine cover is to
show what is being
featured inside. It is
showing the audience
what’s trending.
The direct stare of the
image invites the
audience to reading the
magazine.
The image is also above
the other text which
means that it is the
main feature and that it
has to stand out.
The cover line shows what other features are in the
magazine. The features are shown in a filmstrip which
