Postoperative complications can occur across several body systems. Common complications include surgical site infections (SSIs), wound dehiscence, hematomas, seromas, respiratory issues like hypoxemia and pneumonia, gastrointestinal complications like ileus and anastomotic leaks, delirium, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), urinary tract infections (UTIs), hypertension, hypotension, arrhythmias, and stroke. Close monitoring of vital signs and the surgical site are important to promptly identify and manage any complications in the postoperative period.
